Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Fielding - 2007-10-04 11:28 PM Four miles for me tonight! I was actually hoping to run a full 40 minutes and get closer to 4.25, but I pushed myself too hard and kind of fell apart at the end. Oh well, I'm still on target for the challenge, and that's what's important, right? I did skip my swim tonight, though. I'll have to squeeze that in tomorrow or Saturday (along with a bike and one more run -- eep!). Translation --> You don't LIKE the swim, so you found a way to avoid it. :P Penalty --> Tomorrow or Saturday, you must swim an extra 5 minutes, bike an extra 5 minutes AND run an extra 5 minutes. Enjoy your workout! Who needs to smack talk the other teams, when I can harass my own? Dee |

But skipping the swim had more to do with getting home at 7:30 and not wanting to start my run at 9. Still! I did feel guilty and I will gladly except my 5-minute penalties. Man, you're tough! |

I love your post. It's like a stream of consciousness thing. Goes from thought to thought, without so much as a line break. Althought you DID put punctuation in there from time to time, at least. OK, so here goes: 1) Being a teenager is not all it's cracked up to be. Hormones surging, causing the brain to act no more intelligent than a bowl of oatmeal, etc.... Although I see your point - from a physical perspective, yeah. You could work out as much as you wanted, and never hurt yourself. Or, you could not work out at all, and never gain an ounce of fat OR lose an ounce of muscle mass.... OK, you win. From that perspective, it's better to be a teenager. 2) 50 mi bike, 15 mi run. Yeah. You're so far beyond what I do, that I can't even comprehend it. Would varying the workouts more be helpful? Like going a little harder on the run one day, but easier on the bike.... And then reversing it (easier on the run, harder on the bike). Just tossing it out there as an idea. Don't know if it would work.... 3) Endless pool. Now, that would be amazing. Oh yeah, now I remember you. Didn't you post on that endless pool thread? Where we found they run from about $9K on up? Yeah. I'd like an endless pool, too. 4) Tri bike or road bike. Well, I'm still on a stationary. Either one sounds great to me. I'm assuming you've tried both. So - which one can you stay on longer? 'Cause it sounds to me like you're going to rack up some distance on it. Yes, one may be a bit faster than the other, but if you can't sit on it for a long time, well... And yep, I'm a newbie - with a newbie's perspective. 5) Carbon vs Carbon/Aluminum. Either one sounds good. I think my stationary bike is stainless steel. Or maybe plastic. 6) Wheels and chains - visit the Gear Forum. They'll have loads of advice for you. Personally, I prefer round wheels, but don't have much of an opinion beyond that. (Go ahead. Roll your eyes again.) 7) Your scale is broken. Put it in the pool and see how well it swims. If it sinks, leave it there. If it floats, well then there's REALLY something wrong with it. In either case, leave it there. The people at the gym will know what to do with it. 8) Saturday - First do the 25 mile bike ride. THEN throw in some RUNNING. I'd like to remind you that you're doing a RUN CHALLENGE. Once you've done those, then sure, feel free to drive 400 miles to look at bikes. Enjoy your day. 9) You're eating salad. What are you? A rabbit? Eat some real food. With all this biking, swimming and running, you need protein. No wonder your body is not happy with you. Salads.... 10) Autism class? Legal training? Ah well, I'll have to check in with your next stream of consciousness post to find out more about those. 11) Take home message is... um, well, I don't know about you - but I need to get off BT.com and get a life. OK, I think we're done here. That will be $50 please. Dee (aka the whip cracker) |

Nah, my whip cracking is done for the day. I'll get ya tomorrow. Sorry to hear about your day at work. Although, you know --- a nice workout might help you feel better. Slightly different route since I was going from home instead of the parking lot behind the firehouse. What is up with these kids who need to take up the entire pathway of a park that they pay no taxes to keep up (the teams are always from other towns or the local university)? And they're running so fast the amount of dust they kick up would kill an asthmatic. I mean, earlier this week I had to jump into the woods twice or be mowed down by some kid who obviously hasn't learned to stay right except to pass because he's too young to drive (not that anyone in the DC area knows that rule of thumb when driving anyway). Ugh, they drive me nuts! Can't wait til I start biking and have to deal with drivers...these kids I'm sure will seem like nothing then. Anyway, have another 2+ miles tomorrow to finish up the week at about 8 miles. I am thinking i will need the insolated camelback water tube today if it gets any colder. Sunday will be a day off and then back to running on Monday. Given the way lastnight's bikeride of 9 miles went, I doubt I will be throwing in an extra brick run after the 20-25 mile bikeride. Although I did have run, walk or crawl... stated up front on my distance for the month so I may get a few yards down getting from the front door to my bed aftewards. Sorry for the punctuation I'll do better next time. 1) Forget the punctuation. Steam of consciousness doesn't include it. A line break here and there would be nice though. 2) Thanks for posting a reply to my "Pool Water" question. You had some good ideas in there. I'll have to ask the people at the gym about those things. 3) So you run M, T, W. And bike Th, F, Sat. Maybe the 3 consecutive days is overstressing the body? (Especially since you're eating those high calorie salads.) What would happen if you tried alternating instead? Run M, W, F. Bike T, Th, Sat. Would it give you better recovery time? 4) Throwing minutes/miles in your workouts... well, I do that too. I try to challenge myself. So I can't say anything there. And I know what you mean about trying to balance building endurance and overdoing it. I think I've been overdoing the swimming. Either that, or my technique is falling apart. Because I've NEVER had a shoulder problem, and now BOTH shoulders hurt. (Yes, I should use this as an excuse to concentrate on walking/jogging for the month. This is a run challenge, after all.) 5) Apple, cheese sticks, water. Well, it's better than just salad. I sure hope you eat the occasional protein or complex carb meal, though! I eat cookies. Lots of them. Yes, I know they're bad for me. I don't care. :P 6) If you think the 40 year old body is bad, well, just give it a few years. What we've got now is the best it's gonna be. (After all, we don't get YOUNGER.) Think about that cheery thought for awhile. 7) Re putting the swimex swimspa in the garage, followed by the need to build a new garage - Well, why not just build a pool room, and keep your garage as is? Could be really nice. I'm thinking plexi glass walls, so it would allow the sun in during the winter. But you could take them down during the summer. Cool, eh? In fact, buy two swimspas. Send one to me. 8) 30 F? Um. I'll stay in NC, thank you. It was 72 F this morning. 9) How did the bike shopping go? Did you decided what to get? Dee Edited by D001 2007-10-06 1:19 PM |
