He is no longer riding Kuotas?

I'm a bit concerned that my back is acting up...felt bad during long swim 3 days ago but improved now it is worse than ever. I had back surgery 10 years ago and normally it is bad at most 5-10 days a year. I'd rather it not be now but hope it will improve soon. I'm thinking my taper will be even less training than I had thought.

Nope, dumped them for a faster bike and probably more cash.  He was riding an un-stickered one that someone got pics over on ST a few weeks ago.  Started the rumors and then he announced he'll be riding Scott from now on.

REST!!  There is nothing that you can do now that will be any benefit other than maintaining, so let your back get better and take it easy the next two weeks!

Monday race numbers are supposed to be assigned. Anyone want to guess their number? I'm thinking 2442.

Nope, sexism at its finest .... they give the pros, the charities, the men and then the women.  All in AG order and alphabetical.  So you young whippersnapper ladies will probably be in the 1600-ish range ............

And even though I had a passing thought about getting a voucher for next year, it was just passing.  Not gonna race an IM next year as I had already planned going shorter (other than E-Man).

Lauren - I believe they assign the mens' numbers, and then the womens', so you're likely to have a higher number.

I won't be signing up for 2009. I'm done with long distance stuff for a while (not counting marathons ).

OK here is a KRAZY (yes with a K) question....

Who is going to register for IMLP 2009 the day before the race?

(Me... maybe, probably, likely...)

Not me. When I do IM again, I want to be competitive at it, and not go through all the training, etc., just to be a participant. So, I won't be doing IM next year as I need a lot more training under my belt to get competitive at this distance, but I'll probably be back in 2010. Actually, I'll probably do IMWI in 2010. Next year, it's all Olys and maybe a late-season HIM.

Pros then Janus fundraisers then start with young men to old men then young women to old women...so I get one of the top numbers. Normally there are about 100 women my age group and older.

I think women normally start around 1600 to 1800.

I agree!  I am going to stay away from IM racing for at least a year, but will still try to build my extensive endurance by continuing to do regular long rides and runs.  Its going to take me at least 2 1/2 - 3 years of regular high endurance training to be able to compete at this distance.  Although I will continue to train long, I will only race short.  I think IMWI would be a good race, but I dont know if I will feel ready for it by 2010.

I'm getting a voucher for '09 but I won't decide until after the race if I'll sign up or not. Time is very short to register having a voucher allows me time to decide.

I don't think I'm going to sign up for next year. Really, it's just very very hard to juggle work, family and IM training. Next summer I want to be at home more on the weekends and enjoy breakfast with my wife and daughter. I missed that this year A LOT.

I'm going back to shorter distances for a while. But, I can certainly see myself doing a couple of HIMs next year. The time commitment for them is significantly more manageable.

I'll throw in a guess for 1448. I can guarantee I'm done with IM training- this has darn near killed me. It actually may have killed me and my brain just doesn't know it yet. I'll let you know.

Well I just finished my last long workout until the race.  A nice 20mile run in the books, and now I am ready to kick back, enjoy the TDF for a few weeks and take it easy (comparitively speaking).

I am planning on a 1:20ish swim and will probably try to line up somewhere behind the first 1/4 of the crowd.  I don't mind constant incidental contact during the swim, but if someone tries swimming over me, they are guaranteed an elbow to the face at least,Innocent and if they still pass me, some additional tomfoolery like grabbing an ankle firmly enough to keep it from kicking, etc. It will be fun either way  Laughing

Hey Mike, just a thought here...
the average swim time is about 1:16, and you are aiming for a bit slower than this. If you want to be avoid being 'swum over', would it not make more sense to start a little closer to the middle or further back? Not meant as an insult, but an hionest thought

You make a good point Fred.  I am sorry to admit that I am always in the second half of swim splits at all races I do, and I definately haven't earned the right to place myself near the front of the huge pack.

On that note, I am off to do my first "taper" period workout:  A nice 2-mile lake swim! Cool

Maybe I will ask the guys going out there with me to help me get ready for LP, by swimming over me, or whacking me with oars, like in that Clif Bar commercial. Laughing

No IMLP for me in 09. Signed up for CdA instead. That may be my last and then I'll stick with 1/2's or less. Much easier to schedule and have a life with plus I can go back to mountainbiking without so much worry about injury. At my advanced age that is always a nagging concern.
