Glad you are back Lori and I anticipate you will do great at starting over (though it's not really starting over, not completely). You are a talented runner. And a valued contributor to our group so --- keep on keeping on, girl!

My week was the best I could manage with spring break for the kids and a short family trip. I am pleased that I did not stress myself out over missing a few workouts. Guess I recently learned my lesson about that! This coming week should be great and I look forward to it: 5 - 7k yards in the pool, 3 - 4-1/2 hours on the bike, just about 90 min running (boo, hiss). Let's see if I can make those numbers by next Sunday. Oh, also Pysch class, Computer class, Algebra, soccer/volleyball practice chauffering, and volunteering at the HIM (kayaking) on Saturday. Three more weeks until my school (and job interview - don't ask) are over and things should be less hectic then. And spring is here!!

I know we are all furiously balancing our full lives. How's it going for y'all!

Who has a suntan/sunburn yet?  I DO, I DO!!  A 2 hour lazy bike ride on Sunday turned into a 4.5 hr.,  beer festered demonstration of the power of Mr. Sun!  My arms are SO burned (please, no health warnings about the dangers of sun exposure-I didn't say I was smart, just sunburned).

Anybody else getting to feel the warmth of the spring sun??   Tell us your "Spring is here!" story!

Spring is here but I'm not baring any skin yet.  I'm a total wimp in the cold. Yesterday I ran with my friend after work (at 7 am, we worked night shift). We were dressed in winter tights, layers of shirts and jackets, gloves.... and kept passing people running in shorts and t-shirts.  I'm sorry people - the sun was out but it was only 45F,  I am not wearing shorts  at that temp !! It has to be  above 60 before I even think about shorts.  We had a great run, they all had red legs and looked cold.

So no tan/burn for me for a while yet.

I hope no one minds but a member has asked if we could add someone to our mentor list, and because we lost a member (steve) I thought it would be ok.

Let's all welcome ThomPear to the group.  His blog page is  here .  Maybe you can tell us a little bit about yourself Thom, and what your tri goals are for this season.

Welcome to the group.

Welcome, Tom

As the only other male in the group, I was going to make a joke about the estrogen level.  But I can't-I really like all these dedicated ladies.

Welcome Thom! Yay, one more guy. I like guys :-) I like us gals, too. We rock. You'll see!

Tell us about you. I can see you are damn fast on the bike.

And I just registered for my first tri next month. That means I will have to get my wetsuit (c'mon Xterra peeps, where is it) and get in the water and DEAL with OWS and get over it. Which I will.

And as for seasonal firsts - first 'skeeto bite. Too Irish to get a sunburn, Jeff.

Thanks Babs! Looking forward to my first race, but this is sort of like a "C" race for me -- just a chance to blow off the cob-webs before the BIG SHOW on June 1!

I just want to thank all of you for being part of this group for the past four months.  When you all joined and posted your bios my first thought was that "I can't be a mentor for these people, they are all much better athletes than I'll ever be."  And I was right.  Everyone in this group is so focused and I felt like such a slacker at times seeing what you guys were doing each week.  But knowing the group was watching was so helpful to me.... when I feel like skipping a workout my first thought is "I bet _______ (Jenny or Jeff or Lori or Barbara or Monica or Nat) are out there running or biking or swimming so  I better do it too !!   I know the mentor group was only supposed to be for 3 months but I plan to keep track of all of you because I want to see what awesome results you all have at your races this season.

Thanks for being part of this ... it has really helped me more than you can imagine.

No Lori.  We can go on as long as we want.  I plan to keep in contact with all of the group.  The original plan for the mentor groups was that it would be a way to help beginners for the first few months of training but not be a long term commitment for the mentor.  Since  our group really had no beginners it felt to me like a nice group of virtual training partners, which has really helped me as I do most of my training alone and don't belong to any tri or running clubs.

Yeeaaaa!

Cathy isn't leaving us.  Without her gentle 'prodding' I wouldn't work out nearly as much.

Keep crackin' the whip!

Cathy, it really makes me happy to hear you say that.  I appreciated all the work involved in shepherding our little group, and I really, really appreciate that you volunteered and were so conscientious in doing that despite what was already a full life.  I am really grateful because it allowed us all to get to know each other.  I appreciate having such a great group of training partners. The encouragement on the "inspire me" notes, this thread, and the private communications I have had with some of you have really helped me a lot.  I hope we can continue, however loosely, as a group of training partners.  I know that I want to see how all of you do with your race plans.  I think I am the only one right now without a big set of races and goals, so it is very fun for me to hear about your races, preparations, and successes.

I hope more of you feel this way because I really would hope that we can stay in touch and touch bases often.

Good for you, now write the race report.

I like your picture, especially that the lady behind you is walking her bike !!

I think it is a guy walking his bike. If you want, I can send you a larger photo.

Lori is going to show me how to do a race report! Basically, last weekend was a 150 mile ride for MS from Miami to Key Largo. I had the time of my life!!!!

Sick,

Has anyone worked out with a cold before? Is it really that bad? I hate being sick, and as a teacher it seems like I get exposed to everything at the school.

Just when it seems like I get my game on - boom there goes another virus, a missed week of working out, and another three weeks to get myself in some sort of shape again.

Thanks for letting me vent

I haven't had a cold in a long time (work in a hospital so lots of immunity and no little kids in my house) but I'd say if you can breathe and have the energy then go ahead and do some training but nothing too intense.... just put in some easy miles.
