Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED kaburns1214 - 2012-03-19 10:51 AM So I decided to withdraw from Ironman Texas. I had a trial date moved and instead of starting just after I got back from Texas, the trial is now scheduled to start 4 days before Texas. While the trial may settle, its way too big of a risk to take. We talked and decided that the best option was IMNYC. I found a way in through a charitable foundation and am now registered. (Jeff-y I know its not as scenic as Mount Tremblant but its suits my strengths better and there are 30 more Kona slots at NYC than Tremblant).

Its still dark here inthe mornings after the time change. and 40 mins of stength and PT exercises at the gym today. It's like 75 degrees here, and it's March!! No kidding! It was like 85 here yesterday, and a lot of people were running in downtown Atlanta where it's already hot to begin with. Throw in a lot of runners and spectators, and it was like an over. Not ready for the heat/humidity yet. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Yes, I am actually beginning to worry what this weather means for the rest of the summer and for racing. It has been 80 in Chicago for over a week now which is the warmest I ever remember it! And in Chicagoland we get really high humidity. Is that sad that my feelings about the weather are entirely to do with how it will affect racing? |

Should be very interesting tomorrow with the St. Patricks Day parade going on in the middle of the city! I am a bummed because my training partner got injured this week and she has asked me to stay with her for the run - I SOOOO wanted to run my own race, but I guess I just get to experience it this year. I was in a no win situation....my mom says to just lose her in the crowds!!!LOL I ran a marathon several years ago with a friend. We planned to run together, and she made me swear that we would stay together. It ended up being a miserable race for me. She got really sick, had to stop and sit on the sidewalk several times, and I stood by trying to help. I've been on the flip side. Had another training buddy stick with me at a marathon while I was having a melt down. I forced her to continue on, which she reluctantly did. I did not want her to have a bad race because of me. Tough call - sometimes you just have to race your own race though. ETA - forgot the most important comment - HAVE FUN!!! Thanks Karen for giving me both scenarios! It is weighing heavily on me and I sort of resent her asking/insisting that I stay with her. She knows I am very competetive and when that gun goes off, I often can't help but run. Uggh...I know I will do the right thing and stay with her and be miserable. I saw the pictures on FB -- how did the race go?
The NYC HM was quite an experience! I loved running through central park and through Times Square! It was a cold and foggy morning with no sun, so slightly cold. I did stay with my partner the entire time, although I kept running ahead, always hoping she might keep up, and then I would have to slow down to let her catch up - I hate running that way. I literally pulled her hand up the last hill out of Battery park underpass and yelled at her that she wasn't stopping at that point and that we were going to finish strong! It was still overall a nice time - I hated all the smells of NYC. The race was well supported and managed, so overall a GOOD experience! And I will continue to do long training runs with her! |

I used a swim band for the first time. Holy crap!!! That is BRUTAL. At first it felt as if I were dragging dead weight behind my body. I got the hang of it, but sheesh, my upper body and abdominals are sore right now. |

Fortunately or unfortunately, I got kicked out of the pool after only 5 X 50 of those, so I never got the hang of it. I think I have more this week. It does seem to work the upper body much more, which makes sense because even with a pull buoy your legs are just floating behind. (I like the buoy better!) |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Ooooh lots of stuff to comment on: - Michelle glad you had fun. You'd think there would be lots of wretched smells here too, but even with a run off ditch that city counsel tries to pass off as a "river" it smells ok downtown. - It's warm here too although as I type this a cold front is coming through. I like warm though. Growing up in Miami and Houston does that I guess. - Kelly I'd love to make the trip to NYC. Have a feeling that with Italy and Disney in the past year that will be a no go. - Jeff a tomatillo is kinda a Mexican gooseberry. It's one of the ingredients in my salsa verde. I LOVE a good salsa. Roast tomatillos, a jalapeno and a poblano in the oven. Dump them and a bunch of cilantro into a food processor and pulse with a salt/pepper/honey/lime juice and zest. YUMMY. - Swim and a short run today. Will get on the trainer a little later for an hour to ninety minutes. - Bike fit is now Thursday @ 10 AM. You women and your memories when you get pregnant. The fitter had to reschedule me because she booked a swim clinic for Team Coci the same day. Anyway I've found some decent deals on Orbeas, P2s, CD0.1s, and Speed Concepts. I'm fairly sure one will fit. |
