Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Moonrocket - 2012-10-04 9:59 PM Good luck! Are you taking any probiotics? They tend to offset belly impacts of antibiotics. It's so funny you packed Dale's Pale Ale. I pass the brewery on most of my runs. They have a great tasting room bar. Sorry I joined and dropped off the planet. One of the guys I work with took a new job so I've been stuck trying to do two jobs. I've been getting in some small workouts. Good news is the new guy starts Monday so after a few weeks of training I should get my life back :-) Oh and I had a dogfish brown ale the other night to wind down that was quite tasty. No worries. Sometimes life gets in the way of hobbies. Don't let it happen too often though. |

I don't think that the fact that I've never worn them before will help me protect my man card from being taken - but at least I will be warm... I feel so much better today. My fever is gone and the pain has almost disappeared. In fact, I seem to be getting better by the hour. Hopefully, after a good night's sleep I should be back in business. Still gonna be cold on Sunday. KNow what that means - cold beer |

Thought about you a lot on my century ride...went to hell and back...but you boys with your warm coors light in an ash tray. The guys I was riding with had no idea what I was talking about when I said, "Oh no way in hell am I drinking warm coors light out of an ash tray"...my secret motivation. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I did a century ride on Saturday and it was a beautiful day for a ride. Met up with the big dog riders of the cycling group and met a few new people. They left me in the dust but one guy stayed with me...he said he couldn't keep their pace for 100 miles. I did find out he was blind and needed a set of eyes to help with direction and cars. I became his eyes and he became my legs when my legs cramped and looked liked an old twisted oak tree. He also became my motivation to finish. He really had a goal to do 100 miles but he said he needed me to help him. He also said if I couldn't it was no big deal and he would cut the ride short. This guy, a stranger, was staying by my side no matter what! If it weren't for him never having finished a century ride before and needing my help I would have quit. I would have warmed up the coors light and drank it. I was in too much pain to care about drinking coors light. Plus, at the time, we were only about two miles from home. He could have picked up with some of the other groups around us but he didn't, it was a trust thing...he trusted me to call out the turns, the pot holes, and the all clear at intersections. We did have a groove without even trying. To say the least it was a great ride and perfect in every way! I would add the link to my race report but I just got a new Mac and am having trouble with the new way of copy and pasting and hand gestures. |

That's a most impressive ride, and a good story of both of you "paying it forward." Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Done! The race was as good as I could have hoped considering my lack of training/my illness this past week. But I finished and even though I was really tired (yes - the run does suck!), the thought of warm coors served from an ash tray was more than enough to get me to the finish line. Now onto a HM before ramping up for next year. Here is the report: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=463872 |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Have surpassed my September bike and swim totals already! Of course I only swam 20 minutes and biked 2h 26minutes in September... Semi cleaned up the basement so hope to get on the cycle trainer. Think I am going to buy a TV on the old "pay over 3 years" so I can watch a decent tv while pedalling my as$ off. Should be an easier sell as my wife will now have her road bike setup next to mine... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I want to thank each of you for your help this year. Seriously - joining this group was one of the primary reasons why I haven't quit and I'm incredibly grateful. Yesterday and today have been great. I'm experiencing something I have never experience before - a post race high. When I think back on where I was last November and where I am now - I'm so proud. Never before have I attempted something which was so physically and mentally challenging. I know the effort that went into that race and it was worth it. I decided today to do an Ironman next year. I think I will do Rev3 Cedar Point which is not only close to where I grew up but I've read in a couple places that its one of the top 10 triathlons in the US. I'd love to have y'all join me. You could bring your kids and they could have a blast riding the rides (if you love Roller Coasters - Cedar Point may just be the best park in America). Also, Cleveland just got named one of the top 5 beer cities in America - so that's another thing to consider. Consider it. And please - hold me accountable! |

You did something amazingly difficult...not to mention just getting to the starting line when everything was shouting, "Too sick!". Congrats! Not sure I could make it next year, Malibu in mind and my husband has a guitar festival he would like us to attend in Herldsberg, CA...near Napa. I might be able to woo him with beer though. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Boy - is it quiet in the Beer Drinker's Society the last couple of days. Hope everyone is doing well. Anyone racing this weekend? Yesterday, I didn't get my bike in - I had a busy day plus I'm still sore from the race. However, I got in my swim this morning. I pushed it a little bit in the pool. Right now, I'm looking for a workout plan or a set of workouts that I can do for the next 10 weeks to improve my speed in all three disciplines. It's my goal to improve my times by 10% over the off season and another 10% during next season. Any thoughts on where I could get started? There is a good speed plan in the silver membership section - but I'm looking to go cheap so I can by a wetsuit on sale. Thoughts? Have a great day PS - I'm still not feeling good... no fever but uncomfortible... (sorry ladies) |

I think you've shown your capable of making a goal and sticking with it. 20% sounds easily attainable for you. I would recommend a whole 4 month plan, or 2 that has you doing periodization phases, base, build, peak, and go from there. just a thought. I'm going off into the Colville National Forest this week to try to fill a deer tag. Taking many beers and some whiskey (bushmills) Be back on Wednesday. Hope all is well beer drinkers. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had the crappiest day at work today. The new woman who we hired to be an administrative assistant in our office decided that it really wasn't her job to enter info in the database and make packets... Even though she had been hired to do just that... So, I was a little shocked when she rudely called me into her office and told me that I should be the one to do those things because she was doing other things... So on my way home, I was so angry I decided to listen to some music. These days, I've been getting into soundtracks and the music for gladiator came on. It got me SO fired up - I was really to kill some one. So when I got home I decided that the best thing to do with that anger would be to channel it into a run... It's been a while since I was that pissed and 10 minutes into the run, I realized that I was flying. For the first part of the run, I was averiging a 7 minute per mile pace... For the record - that's 4 minutes faster than I was running prior to the HIM. I finished the run with a 8:54 average. By far my fastest running since highschool. I owe that woman a thank you... It's not going to happen (blame my alcoholic father) To celebrate - I'm enjoying a Mikkeller Czech style pils. It is FANTASTIC! If you ever have a chance to try one of their beers - you must. Hey Kevin and Thor - they make fruit beers too. 2 more posts to 1000! |
