Hope everyone is doing well. Anyone racing this weekend? Yesterday, I didn't get my bike in - I had a busy day plus I'm still sore from the race. However, I got in my swim this morning. I pushed it a little bit in the pool. Right now, I'm looking for a workout plan or a set of workouts that I can do for the next 10 weeks to improve my speed in all three disciplines. It's my goal to improve my times by 10% over the off season and another 10% during next season. Any thoughts on where I could get started? There is a good speed plan in the silver membership section - but I'm looking to go cheap so I can by a wetsuit on sale. Thoughts? Have a great day PS - I'm still not feeling good... no fever but uncomfortible... (sorry ladies) Sorry to here that the boys are causing you some discomfort. My plan is to get back after it after next week. I've had a horrible time of it this quarter with my classes sucking it out of me. grad school sucks. I think you've shown your capable of making a goal and sticking with it. 20% sounds easily attainable for you. I would recommend a whole 4 month plan, or 2 that has you doing periodization phases, base, build, peak, and go from there. just a thought. I'm going off into the Colville National Forest this week to try to fill a deer tag. Taking many beers and some whiskey (bushmills) Be back on Wednesday. Hope all is well beer drinkers. I never have been one to care too much about time goals. I have tried a couple times and found that it doesn't really work for me. Jus t be careful. The speed is a result of the training. U cant just say u r going to go that much faster. what u can do is train responsibly and then see what u can hammer out. Then again, I am slow so there is that. So where to start. Just keep building ur volume. Don't were about smashing out too many workouts. Just put the ti,e in, build the strength, don't get hurt. |

Use her to motivate you to run 7:00 miles anytime! DH, That sounds like a good time. Update: I'm enjoying some High Life here, as in Miller. It's the champaign of beers, says so on the can. |

X2...watch the injury aspect and you should be good. Listen to your body to determine if any pain is injury related or soreness from increased mileage. Work through the training pain but do not get yourself sidelined. Great Job! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You know your life has changed when you have a bad day at work (second in a row) and feel better after spending a couple of hours looking at marathon training plans I'm also having my favorite imperial IPA - Heady Topper (it's fairly local but there is nothing better - it's almost worth the drive out here) OK - so a friend was telling me today about the Hyannis Marathon (the place in MA where the Kennedy's live) that takes place in February. Needing a new challenge before I start training for my IM, this might be just the thing...18 weeks 5 days til the race and I just found an 18 week Hal Higdon plan. And the best part - it's the day before my birthday so my wife really can't say no even though I plan to spend signing up for my other races next year (the IM is 425 even with an early registration fee!!). I also checked a race pace calculator and found that someone who ran a 2:29 hm could run around a 5:09 marathon... I know DH isn't a big fan of this idea - but if I were to improve by around 10% in the next 5 months - then I would run around a 4:30 marathon... That would be one hell of a birthday present... |

May very well drop the time u r looking for. I love plans. But u got to follow them. |

DH - I totally know what you mean and agree that I'll get faster simply by running. But I am a goal oriented person and fortunately/unfortunately I am getting close to achieving my big goals for the year. I'm 1.2 pounds away from my goal of 170. There are 3 weeks to my last race of the season - my HM. Now I need a new goal and I need it to be as specific as possible because I feel a little like a boat who has lost its wind. So that's where I am coming from... What beers are we drinking today? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The brewery where my friend works won a bronze medal in the smoke beer category today at the Great American Beerfest. So happy for him and the beer he brewed (Smoke and dagger by Jack's Abby) is fantastic. Here is a link that will show all the winners from this and previous years. Thoughts? Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had me the arrogant bastard ale tonight. I have tried all 3 pumpkin ales I could find, blue moon, Mericas original, and shock top. Shock top is the best. Finally found a liquor store today, actually a pyramid store, anyways, they had tons of beer, so I loaded up on 10 big bottles. Also, went for a run in38 degree that is 101 degree heat. Dang, that is t o u g h . |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK... I'm not a big fan of the path I find myself on the last few days... I'm so close to my weight loss goal but I'm eating like Bill Clinton in a humburger shop... Plus, I pulled a hammy and have been hobbling a bit. Time to get back on the wagon and get going... Tomorrow I plan on doing a double - a short 5k run and a 1000 in the pool... Still haven't figured my workout plan for the next couple of months. But I do have an idea of what I want to accomplish in year two. I'll post that tomorrow night after I get back on track. Beers tonight - a local beer and some homebrew... nothin special... |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Been busy with work and life lately...been meaning to post but... Darren, good to see you enjoying your holiday...too bad, I am in Calgary Thursday night/friday. My wife has a Zumba course, so I am going to go with her...hoping for some sun so I can take my bike, otherwise a run by the bow in the morning perhaps. Gotta like that cheap beer down there! Kevin...hope you didn't stumble on to deliverance drinking miller... David, good to see you getting back at it...sometimes it is good to just train what you feel like and don't worry so much about what your doing, just that you are doing something. Worry about getting more structured when you get closer. Cynthia, sign up for Huntington Beach yet?? |

I'd love to get your thoughts... I think there are some major problems:
What do you think? Actually I kind of like the beginning. You just did a HIM which included a HM so that should be a breeze. Just stay active with your bikes and swims and focus on your running. Just don't make working out a job. It should be for feeling better inside and out and allowing a wee bit of IPA to fall down your throat. Hell even a fruit beer... As for the rest....I think you should show this to your wife and kids and see if they think it is doable as they will be the ones most affected. I know even my supportive family may hang me up by the you know what if I signed up for all of that...just saying! Now get your outside for a run! |

After all, its all about the fruitbeer! I agree with you about the start of the year. I like the idea of running a HM in February since it will be a good gauge of how far I have come over the course of the winter. My HM in November will give me a good starting point. I also agree that my goals are a pretty big time suck. I think I need to prioritize them and figure out which I'm truly committed to. Luckily - my wife is willing to put up with my working out as long as I am present when I'm at home and I've been making a big effort. But you're right - its a lot of time. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had such a great run today... Long story short - things have really sucked at work. I'm in a job I don't love and I've been feeling recently like I really need to get back to my true passion =, which is teaching sixth grade. Not to get all personal - but I had this epiphany at the start of the run - about the importance of living my life to the fullest unlike my dad who hated everything about his life because he didn't choose to do what he loved (instead he became a car salesman Hoping to get in some lifting tomorrow and then at least 1000 in the pool. My oldest has a camp out this weekend so I need to figure out a way to get a bike and a run in by sunday night. My HM is coming up in November so it's time to get on it. If I don't break 2:29 - its warm coors light for me. |
