Down to 185.4 this morning.  It's good to see it coming off so early in the game.

logged a 4 mile easy run this morning.  nothing easy about that 4 miles.  I'm pretty sore.

yeah I am down to 190, so that is 6 pounds in 3 days, which makes me happy. Clearly just getting rid of the salt.

Congrats on the weight loss gentlemen!  I will have a beer in your honor!

glad someone is getting something out of it....

Grad school still sucks.

I'm back on the weight loss trail.  186.7 this morning.  skipped my "sit and be fit" video this morning and opted for the 30 minutes of extra rest.  b/r tomorrow morning or just a run, depending on the weather.

Wife just told me we're having #3 last night.  That was a surpriseSmile

2013 Goals:  (these are pushing me from now to then)

:50 minute or bust Bloomsday 12k run

3:20:00 or Bust Windermere Marathon in May

5:00:00 or bust HIM next fall.

Weigh in at 155 for fall HIM.

whoa, not sure how I missed that. Congrats man. Ha. Surprise. Ha. yeah. We are on 2 and thinking of 3 and, wow. That is wild. Man. Crazy.

Holy Crap!!!  That is AWESOME!

Congrats to you both!  We have three and I've got to say - the third is a gift!  I hope your son/daughter brings you as much happiness as Kate has brought to me and Heidi.  The next beer is in her/his honor!

Thanks man.  After 24 hours of breathing, We're extatic.

That's a 12 minute improvement right - that's totally doable!

yes.

5:00:00 or bust HIM next fall.
While I think this is the more challenging goal - I also think you can do it.  Reaching your weight loss goal is sure to help.

Time will be hard to compare to my first as they are changing the course up this year, but I would love to go under or be close to 5.

Question - I thought your were thinking IM this fall - is the change because of the kid?  If so, I think that's a good call.  My wife is already talking about the fact that she is never going to see me.

do to grad school not being done till next may, wife and I said 1 more half for this year.  2014 IMCDA/ Challenge Penticton/ Grand Columbian.  2015 IMCDA (Kona qualifier)Surprised  2016 either 1mo. vacation in Hawaii or 2+ month depending on if I KQ or not. Cool

Weigh in at 155 for fall HIM.
Double or nothing?

 Of Course.Smile

I did a recovery ride this morning- 30 minutes in the small ring and still really sore from the treadmill but feel like I'm to be ready for the race in two weeks. My wife and I are still trying to figure out what to do about next years race schedule. The only iron length races that are still available are either too hot or conflict with the start of school. Heidi really pushed back and frankly I don't blame her - the end of August is a crazy time for us all. Might have to take a page out of Kevin's book - and postpone the IM until 2014... But I'm hoping to figure something out this weekend...Anyone doing anything fun?

super bummed today. I had a 50k fun run planned with a bunch of hot ultra runners. It was going to be a super good day. I can't go because my daughter is sick. I mean there are people out there running right now when I should be too. It is cold and windy and snowy, it would have been epic. Good party afterwards.

Not really venting, just disappointed. I have been looking forward to it for over a month. It is like I am missing Christmas or something, stupid as that sounds.

Anyways, going to make the best of it and hunker down with the fam, drinking strong coffee and checking fevers. lol. The joys of parenthood.

All right beer drinkers.

The wife said I've been doing swell on budgeting and has freed up funds for a six pack.  The winter brews are out on the shelves of all the supermarkets, and I'm going shopping for tonights beverages.  So excited!  I will report back with what I end up with.  Those winter brews are like Candy.

tried to post a pic, but couldn't figure how to import it.  I went with the Jubelale from Deschutes.  It drinks like a stout.  I love the flavor.

What's anyone else drinking/up to?

I don't blame you for being super bummed!  Having a sick kiddo is never fun and missing a race is beyond frustrating.  Sure - kids are more important - but being with them doesn't give you a pass on being disappointed about missing a race.

I hope your daughter is feeling better today.  Too bad there aren't ultra marathons that go on for multiple days like Chanukkah Wink

Kevin - Not a huge fan of the Christmas beers... often they are way too malty for my palate!  Glad to hear that you had the funds to grab some good beer.  Wish my wife and I Were better about our money.  All the great beer I'm drinking ain't gonna pay for college.

Here is MA we are gearing up for the storm of the century.  We've stocked up on food, gotten the cooking stove out and battened down the hatches.  Oh yea - and the fridge is fully stocked with beer (guess my kids are going to community college!) While the news media is calling it the perfect storm - my guess it that at worst we (who are about 30 minutes inland) will lose power for  a long stretch of time.  Last year, we lost power 2x for more than 48 hours. Hopefully, it won't be that bad this time around.

Ate like crap today.  Need to get back on the wagon this week.  Have a good one!

One laste note - Browns won!  Oh yea, Kevin - how did your team do?

cmon, they scored 7 points and won by 1 point.  I guess we'll call that a win.

The redskins had to go up against the steel curtain.  that's a tough match up for anyone.

I guess that's Malt flavor that I love.  Your right it is consistent throughout the winter brews.  My next purchase will be brrr by widmere bros.  "When it's cold out, warm up with a brrr."  I also like that most winter brews around or above 7% alc. by volume.  that's a bonus.

Stay safe over there.  I couldn't imagine getting hit like you guys have over the last few winters.

Well how did everyone`s training go for October? Goals for Movember?

Well for myself, I managed to up my bike totals and swim but my run dropped. Over all I upped my training time a bit (approx 16hrs vs 13.5hrs). I feel like have lost a few pounds using the jeans method of tracking weight....jeans that were snug...not so snug now.

My goal for November is to increase my total training time 4 hours.

On a positive note I have a big ol' fat test next week at the university of Alberta. I get dunked into a water tank to get my fat percentage...could be ugly. I also get a medgem test for  RMR/metabolism/calorie etc.

http://www.mimhs.com/medgem/physicians/medgeminpractice/

The gym where my wife is the group fitness coordinator are trying to dial in their medgem so I get to volunteer for the testing. Gratis baby!

Seeing as it is gratis I will reward myself with a case of phillips hopbox, 4 different hopped up beers from phillips brewing! Darren you need to buy this little treat!

October was a bust. Between the 10 day holiday and the kids being sick for the last week training was less than steller. My goal of hitting 85k a week for the year is looking very much in doubt.

That said, my run yesterday gave me some hope. I am not riding anymore so perhaps anything is possible. I gotta average 15k a day until the end of the year. Which sounds like a lot, but like I said, I am not riding my bike anymore so I am hopeful. We will see.

In good news I was down to 189 last night, so 7 pounds down from Palm Springs.

I'll keep that hopbox in mind for when I get below 180, for sure.

Change of plans... It looks like I'm gonna postpone my dreams of an IM next year to 2014... I really want Heidi to be there with me and she can't make a race at the begining of the year.  Plus, the alternatives aren't that attractive to me.  So, I will look elsewhere for a challenge in 2013.  I'm gonna have to be on my game to be able to sign up for an Iron Man next year.  I hear it's pretty tough to register.  Any suggestions?

Went out for a run today... My right knee was still hurting something fierce.  After 11.5 miles on the dreadmill last week, it seems that I still need to baby it a little more.  Good thing its time for the taper.

I was thinking of goal for November - but I think it might be time for a little break...

Malt beers are almost as bad as fruit beers...Smile

I think it is from drinking too much colt .45 beers in your youth!

Are you kidding me?  Still knocking fruit beers?  Busting on an entire style is crazy.  Not kidding - you are missing out.  I think we need a beer challenge.  I will drink some malty beers you suggest and you will need to try some tasty fruit beers.  You game?

Nah, there are some good fruit beers just far and few between. Plus personal tastes come into play a lot as well. IPA's well you either love em or hate em. Not as much wiggle room.  I actually don't mind some winter beers but I had to get my colt 45 crack at kevin in! Smile

Now coors lite/coors well there is no redeeming quality other then it will put out a campfire...

Oh yeah, when I find a liquor store that sells singles like you guys can get i will gladly join the challenge. otherwise we pay through the nose for a 6pk of beer I may or may not like...

That's cool. Tough to postpone stuff but you do what you have to do. For sure best in the long run because you will be in that much better shape.

Only suggestion is to go to the one you want to go to and volunteer. I think that somehow gets you on some quick registration list.

Everything happens for a reason.  And it really is no fun to complete a race and not have someone there that really cares to see you finish.  I did that once and it really sucked!  Now I always make sure I have a support crew...not always my husband but a kid or my dad!  Take the time to heal and you will have an even better race in 2014!

Wait! Whaaaat??? We were suppose to train in October?  My body did not get that memo!  October has turned into one big recovery month for me after my century.  I hit a few Zumba classes and a couple of not so note-worthy jogs. I haven't a clue what is going on...we keep passing this cold around, not enough of a sickness to keep down and out, just down.

Pretty unfortunate too; the weather has been gorgeous lately and had I had the energy I would have been running. Lately though all I run is a low grade fever.

No beers for me lately... so I haven't gained any weight, still at 163...always 163 if I eat horribly or healthy...always 163!
