Thanks for the kind words, I used to walk part of the 5k's back in 2009, so it really means a lot to me to be able to run. I still struggle trying to stay in the right HR zones though, and my biggest challenge is learning to pace without burning up in the first half of a run; I haven't figured out negative splits yet. I get suckered into the energy and hype at the event, then pay dearly the last half. Had 4 miles in the middle that were under 6:30, but ended up with a 7:40 and 8:00+ at the end. The mental game is CRAZY!!

It's supposed to be sunny and high 40s today, so I'm headed out today for the first outdoor ride of 2013!  My wife has told me twice to calm down; now she's just rolling her eyes.

Putting my gear together for that, I remembered another thing that is great for cold weather riding.  I love this stuff:  http://madalchemy.com/.  You rub it on your legs before you go out, and there's capsicum in it (the same stuff that's in pepper spray, but not as strong) so it keeps your legs warm while you ride.  Just be sure to put your chamois on first!

Larakin - again congrats. It's great that you can make the official announcement.

Todd - Holy smoke. That is an incredible time. Your hardwork has definitely paid off. Congratulations.

Have begun to do balancing drills in the pool. I have been doing some, but not these new ones. I also ordered and have begun to use the PT paddles. Needless to say, swimming has been a real joy. I decided to leave the watch at home and simply be good with focusing on form.

Day off today we have about 10 inches of snow on the ground and it's still coming down. No boarding today but I will take the girls sledding.

I walked into a LBS that I have not been in in awhile looking for antichafing stuff and saw that they had quite a few tri bikes. The had the Crevelo P2 for around 2700. I had the thought...hmmm I have some $$ saved....But reality struck in...ira contribution, 529 contribution, I need a new car. I also thought to myself of Jen's words in response to her new ride, a nice ride has to be earned and I haven't earned it yet. So perhaps next year.

Keep checking the LBS for deals this time of year, specifically ask them for sales or manufacturers discounts, even leftovers. Cervelo changed ownership last year and in April of 2012 they were selling the 2011 P2 for $1200, and the 2012 for $1700. Get sized in advance so you know what to ask for and they usually can do a national search for you. It may save you $1,000.

Speed set in pool + upper body and abdominal strength session this morning.  They still don't have the heater fixed.  I thought about going home and crawling back into bed!  I decided to stay and suffer instead.  Unfortunately I couldn't find my groove in the water.   I'm going to run once I take the older kids to the bus.

You get what you pay for with gyms.  I paid over $100 for Lifetime, and the pools were clean and well maintained.  It's like $30 a month for LA Fitness, and the gym is falling apart.  A week to fix a pool heater?  That's horrible!  I wish there were a Lifetime close to my hood.

Swim team sign ups for my kids are in 2 weeks.  My 2 older kids (ages 8 and 6) are doing the summer swim.  My 6 year old wants to join the competitive swim club next year, and I figure the summer team will prepare her for lap swim but in a less competitive way.  She just needs to get used to formal swim sessions with a coach on deck.  My 8 year old doesn't want to swim (only play Xbox 360) but he has to do some sort of physical activity over the summer.  Their meets will be on Saturdays, so it looks like that will have to be my day off this season.  Sundays for long ride.

Rest day today after 45 on the bike yesterday.  It was wonderful to get outside.  I think I needed some sunshine, and even though it was high 40s and windy, the sun did me a lot of good.

So my daughter has a soccer tournament the weekend of 3/9-10 which was when I was going to do my half marathon that I did the past two years so I'm officially out for that. I'm debating if I want to do another HM or if I want to just focus on my HIMs which is really what this season is about for me. I could always do one in September after my second HIM.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. We are excited. Now if we can just make it through this morning sickness.

Todd, Awesome job on the HM!

1600 with fist drills done. Got on bike to do OLPs. Got through the OLP's and then came the kiddos getting ready for school and they didn't have this or didn't have that. So the rest of the ride was shot. Oh well, such is life. Test week for me. I have 200/800 swim test and 4x1 mile repeats. I am kind of looking forward to them. I have seen some gains even with the missed workouts.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Morning sickness.  Something that Cindy has never had to deal with.  Thank goodness.

Hour on the trainer.  ZR ride with some one leg pedaling.  Good way to ease into a new block of training.

My wife has only had occasional morning sickness and mild at that so we've been lucky too. Her big thing is food aversions as opposed to cravings. The first time it was Chinese food which luckily for me since I'm not a fan it's stuck ever since then. I liked Chinese when I was younger but after discovering Thai I just see no reason since its a healthier, fresher alternative. One pregnancy it was chicken which was really tough but luckily that one didn't last.

Come up to Maine in October for the Maine Marathon/half marathon. It's pretty, kind of challenging. I'm going to do it....not that is an incentive or anything.

Are you doing the full or the half? I'll have to see what the fall soccer schedule looks like but if I wait until the fall I may go full marathon.

Course is reasonably flat.

This is in North Hampton and I considered it last year. Same day but a lot closer for me.

Even flatter!

I am seriously considering doing my first full for the Disney in Jan 2014. Flat. And I could do some rides.

I am fairly certain that I am the only one that thinks of this but every time I have to do OLP on the bike, I hear that old and dumb song OPP in my head....this is a small sampling of things that run through my head on the trainer.

That's funny. Our 2.5 year old only wants what we are eating or drinking so I incorporate that song into a verse or two of who's down with other people's pasta or the like.

The one that really kills my wife and now my girls is the Back to life, back to reality song by Soul li Soul. I started using it the last day of vacation back in the mid 90's when we started dating and she's hated it since. The girls have been tortured with it as well so when I announce it's time for the song they know which one and start yelling at me "DON"T DO IT! NOOOOOO!!!" So after 1 day of school in the last 2.5 weeks due to snow and school vacation I said last night it's time for the song and the two older ones both ran to their rooms full tilt. LOL, if I had something else to get that effect all the time.

If they can make money off of it they will.  Then they can put it on ESPN and ABC too.

I'm surprised ESPN hasn't started televising the Disney marathon yet.

Question for the group: What is your typical 5k warmup ritual?(If you're running an all out race)I'm asking because I'm finding that as I train for longer runs, my short runs suffer, and it really takes longer to "warm up" for an all out sprint - is a 1/2 mile, mile, 20 minutes enough/too much?

1:10 on trainer done and yoga and core this afternoon.  I've adjusted to the new trainer, so that's good.  I'm not sleeping very well at night lately, and I have no idea why.  I'm more energetic than ever during the day, and I'm spending most of the day on my feet, chasing my kids around and doing housework.  Maybe I'm overtired or something.

Frederick's 3rd birthday is tomorrow.  Can't believe my last baby is turning 3.  Makes me feel so sad  My sister is STILL pregnant.  41 weeks 5 days.  She goes in for a check on the baby today.  I can't stop thinking of the baby.  I hope everything is OK, and my sister's labor is swift and soon.

Speed sets in the pool this morning.  Have some low cadence intervals on the trainer later.  Family and triathlon is taking all my motivation lately.  Glad I'm going to have a few days "off" of work coming up shortly.
