Knee starts getting sore after about three miles, same thing happened last year about this time getting ready for rev 3 half. ..... Adam I hear ya man. I just finished Physical Therapy with mine (also including IT Band). Do some good stretching (including the hamstrings) and be easy on the running. I've already figured how much running and walking I need to do to finish within 17 hours. |

New user 35 Springfield, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Kris- My taper is two weeks long, so I'll have 2 more long runs before my taper begins. I'm doing 18 this week. It's totally up to you and what you feel like doing, but I'd want the 18er under my belt once before the big dance. Jillian- I agree with you about the kids, I don't think I'd want to worry about the younger ones and whomever is having to take care of them. I know I would worry about my husband being overwelmed if he had to deal with little ones when they are bored all by himself. That being said, my husband and 9 yr old stepson are coming, but my stepson is very good at entertaining himself as he's used to playing by himself at our house (no other kids). Plus he has a DS so that'll entertain for hours on end. ;-) Everyone- Last couple weeks of hard training. Rest as much as possible, remind spouses that it's the homestretch, and think about scheduling a message just as taper begins! I know I am! Good luck!! Ashleigh |

I am so looking forward to the race and seeing all of us finish. Having read all the questions people have asked has made this process a lot easier. I feel as though I am not going through it alone. I really appreciate all the veterans willingness to share their experiance and the fellow first timers asking questions which I had and some of the ones I would not have thought of. Sam I am up for any get togethers the BT'ers want to do. Thanks for your blog and videios. They are helpful and inspirational. |

Member 24 Middle of Nowhere, Manitoba, Canada | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread jillian_0 2011-08-02 6:26 PM I don't want to bring them, they are bored to tears at races, and the older one starts school on Thursday and can't miss too much. Also, my 2-year old is typical, always throwing tantrums about something. We didn't bring them to Muncie HIM and that was a good choice, they would have hated it. Jillian, my daughters are now 6 & 8, but were 3 & 5 for my first Ironman (Canada); and 4 & 6 for my second one (Wisconsin). I brought them to both previous ones and plan to bring them for this one (I also plan to bring my 3 newly aquired stepsons - age 11 yrs & 7 yr old twins). That being said, my biggest consideration has always been for the support person who is looking after them - because it's not just the Sunday Ironman event - it's the registration, the Friday supper, the Saturday swim & bike check, wanting to rest on Saturday evening, etc... that you aren't around for either. That person has to be prepared to entertain kids for at least 3 days alone. Your kids are still young, and I think you would be making the right choice not to bring them. I only choose to bring mine because we make a two-week summer family trip out of it and stop at other locations, attractions, etc... along the way. "Mother/Father" and "Ironman" can be a very delicate juggling act sometimes!! |

Its an excel spreadsheet. I also need to figure out where to put it, but I have the 2007 athletes video from Janus. That gives you a look at race day 2007. Let me know if anyone wants to see it. |

Veteran 140 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread What up everyone. My weekly or is it biweekly check-in. Did 2 hour tempo ride today on rolling course--best I can approx for the lollipop loops close to me. Legs felt good especially after a couple of easy days. Hopefully, I'm peaking at right time. Just trying to trust coach and the plan. I'm arriving Friday. Tried to switch call days to come up Thursday..but no takers. Getting excited to get this baby started. Good training, Doc |

Ugh... what a week I am having. I have already had to postpone Monday's swim to Friday (my usual rest day) because of work and extra training (I am a rescue diver as well and am spending most nights this week getting some extra training dives in; extra training = extra cash for the big race weekend). I was planning on taking the weekend off because of a 50/8 mile brick on Saturday and a 22 mile HARD run on Sunday (not to mention a good friend's wedding Saturday evening), but one of my coworkers had emergency surgery and I have to work Saturday now. Looks like the hard brick will have to be moved to tomorrow and tomorrow's 40 mile ez ride will have to squeeze in somewhere else. I just finished an 8 mile interval run that got pushed WAY back (diving again) and found myself saying something I thought I would never say: "I don't want to eat, I just want to go to bed!" Unfortunately I think starving after an hour long interval run would be less than beneficial. Okay, I am done forcing some food down and complaining about the struggles of an amateur athlete, time to try and find some sleep. We are on the home stretch guys, keep loving it! |

New user 35 Springfield, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Noah- Thanks for the checklist. I have one, but it's mostly for my local short distance races. Being that this is my first ironman, I don't want to forget anything! This will help a lot! Thank you! And good luck with recovery! I'm pretty sure no one can keep up with The Cube, he's a machine! Doc- Love the jelly donut and message scheduled the day after the race! Perfect! lol Ashleigh |

New user 5 NY, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Noah- I love Reese's but can see them not holding up as well in 105 degree heat (they "sweat" under normal temps). Twinkies though are bullet proof at all temps! As to your injury, if it is your hip flexor (I had a lot of issues w/ my left one for my first few marathons), definitely ice at night each day (even on non-running days). My favorite way was to freeze a Poland Spring bottle, wrap it in a paper towel, and then just leave it on hip flexor until I fell asleep and it likely rolled off on its own. I see you are also in NYC...so likely won't mind a little extra coolness at night now that the city has gotten so hot! |

Expert 1128 Fort Riley, Kansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Just got my orgin-8 hot pink tires today, will try them out on my 100 miler this weekend. My Micheline Pro Race 3s are too worn down to use at Louisville so I though I'd have a little fun and get tires that matched my bike. They won't be as fast as the Pro Race 3s, but are much more durable, and in Louisville I am more concerned about not getting a flat then saving a few mili-seconds with faster tires. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Fesslern - 2011-08-04 1:00 PM +1 to the Salt and Vinegar chips Lisa. I might have to try that! I ate one or two chips at run special needs last year and they tasted SO GOOD, but I couldn't figure out how to take them with me without getting sick of carrying them. I'll still stick a few handfuls in this year; maybe I'll feel like carrying them this time. YUM! I did learn though (need to amend this on my checklist) that a PB sandwich does NOT sound appealing to me at any point in the race |

Veteran 329 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thanks to all for the checklists. that is a big help. I just found out that there is a possibility that I will have a job interview while in Kentucky. Guess I need to add suit, dress shoes, and tie to the checklist. Man, oh man. There is so much more to completing an Ironman than just the 140.6 miles. I can attest to the old cliche--Ironman is more than a race; it is a journey Can't wait to meet everyone and see you all out on the course. Nathan |

Expert 1143 Wellington, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread What?!?!...How am I getting blamed for things?...lol Trust me were ALL a little bit "nicked up" right now after the miles we have been putting in. I have been fighting the PF in my left heel since April and its better but still not 100%...still have to ice and roll it after runs and taking 500mg of Nuproxin a day. Also dealing with a little groin pull, comes and goes. Really felt it after my 115mi bike the other day, first 1/4mi of the run was difficult then it lossened up. We all get thru this next 7-10 days then its taper time and we'll be climbing the wall and healing!!! Speaking of training: in Rio again and coach is taking it easy on me for 48hrs, just an 8mile tempo run yesterday, weights/core today and a 35min "recovery" run tomorrow at an "embar--ingly" slow pace along Copa Then after flying all night friday, I get home at 7am, sleep til 1ish and have to get in a 20mi run in the HEAT Sat afternoon/evening rain or shine. Sun is a 8am 35-45min OWS followed by a 4.5hr 70-80mi bike, THEN fly all-night back to Rio!! Who knows what next week hold, he hasnt updated my schedule yet...but im pushing him for another 100mi bike ~ Edited by The Cube 2011-08-04 4:22 PM |
