Hi all ... I just wanted to drop you a few lines to let you know I'm  still alive & kicking.  I started getting back into my workout tonight, (running) and it didn't go so hot.  I ended up walking back home. Frown

I will be getting after it again tomorrow.  I will keep on keeping on. I will get back on track even if it takes me a bit to get there. Thanks for all the inspires, they were awesome!  Wink

FYI .... Josh took my helmet down & had a talk with the dog owner.  He showed the dog owner my helmet & told him about the hospital visit.  He let him know that we have insurance, but have a deductable that we expect them to pay a portion of & a helmet that they need to replace.  He told them that he thought that was only fair since they were the dog owners.  Josh let them know that there are no hard feelings.  Josh said that the guy seemed to take it well.

I asked Josh what kind of dog he thought it was, and he said that it looked like a mix of lab & pit bull.  I think I'm  going to take a different route for a while. - Ree

Glad to hear you're doing well.  I think it would take anyone some time to get back to all of it after that.  Hope you just slide right back into it all very soon!

That spartan race looks really fun.  I had always hoped to do the 'muddy buddy' but never had.  The spartan looks like way more fun though.  I'll have to check out the one in Texas in Dec. and convince my hubby to do it with me!

This is partly a "proud mom" post, but also how you never know where a great networking moment will occur.  It could happen in the locker room of the club where you train, which is what happened.  A couple of months ago I was chatting in the locker room with a women who is in the tri group at our club.  Turns out she is an engineer.  I happen to comment that my son is an electrical engineering major. Wondered if her company hires interns for the summer.  It does. Told me to have my son send his resume.  He did.  Long story short, my son called me today to tell me he has a summer internship with this company (big name power tool co.

Given my dislike for hot and humid, I don't see Louisville in August as a "destination."  I might figure out how to come volunteer/spectate that weekend.

My top 3 choices for IMs were Fla (salt water with no chance to practice in it); Louisville (where its been extremely hot 2 out of the 3 years they've had it, and I wilt in heat) or Wisconsin.  No brainer.

Miami in January. 2010 it was 37 degrees for the Orange Bowl. Last year....60s. Florida in January is just SOOOOOOOO nice, not humid etc. I grew up in the upper midwest and I know what an absolute f#$ng nightmare it can be in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin in the summer. PLUS bugs. ACK. That said, I do love the Lake Pepin area AND I prefer fresh water.

I'm looking for something to do back home besides RAGBRAI this summer... maybe the Bix... but I haven't found anything. Maybe the 1/2 M in Des Moines...

Hi fuzzies,I've been in LA all week. My workouts are really suffering, mostly because my toddlers are waking up at 5am from jet lag... Not getting enough sleep at all. I had one good workout a couple of days ago but really falling off my schedule. I think being chronically tired on this trip and not being able to workout is making me a little depressed. I'm here because I have an opening of my art is a big gallery here, usually it would be an exciting event to look forward to but I just want it to be over with and get home, get back into a routine, get some rest! Remind me not to change time zones with two kids under the age of 4 again... Anyhow, just wanted to check in with a some complaints; )

2 children under 4!  yikes, i imagine you have your hands really full!  Still, try to not have that kill the excitement of your opening.

I'd whine too if I were exhausted with little kids away-from-home! Hang in there and TRY to enjoy it!

What if you're traveling for work without 2 kids under 4 and it's been a series of 17-hour days??

Hang in there Nicky!

Thanks guys for the moral support. It's 8:30 and I'm hitting the sack so things will be looking up tomorrow after a good long sleep plus, I'm determined to run in the morning so that'll put everything right again. Powerofpositivethinkingpowerofpositivethinking... Actually the game changer is that I got a babysitter for the next couple of days to help out: )

sjhodgson - 2011-04-26 8:38 PM That spartan race looks really fun.  I had always hoped to do the 'muddy buddy' but never had.  The spartan looks like way more fun though.  I'll have to check out the one in Texas in Dec. and convince my hubby to do it with me!

Definitely do it, we had a blast; but be prepared to work hard!

Which length did you do?  The one in TX is 8 miles give or take...that seems crazy when you add the obstacles!

I did the 8 mile (15 obstacle) one.  Most of the 8 miles was on single track advanced mountain bike trails (in FL there really weren't any hills, so it was a lot of technical running), one of the obstacles was a 250-300 yd swim in the bay which was particularly hard without goggles and with running shoes!  Another obstacle was pulling a cinder block up and down a sand hill.  Every muscle in my body got a work out.  Again, it was hard, but a lot of fun.  Don't be afraid of it!

Happy May Day McFuzzies!!!!! (Gather ye rosebuds while you may)

Reflection on the month of April -

Had the one long run which made me quite happy and proud of myself.  Biking has been a wonderful addition to my routine.  Hoping the weekends and weather calm down enough to get some longer rides in.  Overall not too thrilled with April, had too many off days for various reasons and swimming was non existent.  Hind site is of course 20/20 but overall not very happy with April, that being said time to let it go and start May with a clean slate.  I want to have 25 hours of loggable activity whether it being stretches, swimming, hiking or running.  Like my pretty little flowers in the garden, I want to continue to grow and bloom.  Lift my face to the sun and use my training time to be happy with me.

What are your goals/plans for May?????

Sounds like you have it figured out already.

I'm just running baby steps, today went from 2 miles to 3.48. I just have to keep going. I'm doing better on my own than I thought. I'm just not fit enough to keep up with anyone again yet. So, now it's May...I'm going to lose 20lbs and run a bit longer. I plan to do a long treadmill workout once a week too. I found a good training tool. www.itrain.com. It's like having a coach in your ear. There's one for rowing also.

Good luck to all of us!

McFuzzies ...

I had my first race EVER today.  I did the Steelcase duathlon today with my husband & some guys from our local tri-goup.

Good news - I finished & the fire rescue team didn't have to come get me Laughing I wasn't the fastest, but I wasn't trying to be.  Running still isn't my strongest YET.  I'm glad to now have a race under my belt. - Ree
