kidtri33 - 2012-06-27 9:42 AM Great 1hr run last night and I think I have dialed in my stride pretty well. My hip flexors did not bother me at all and only feel tight this morning. Although I warmed those up this morning with a crazy bike ride. These sprints the BT plan calls for are killer. It is good to be back in and I feel like I am focusing more and getting the most out of the workouts now. Now if I can just get that focus on my swimming.

Watch the Oly trials and it's hard to not get jazzed about swimming.

I let my kids stay up until 8:15 last night, so they could watch the swimming trials.  They were excited!  I think they're on tonight as well.

They're on all week.

So just about everyone I know who did BSLT ended up in the med tent with an IV or two hooked up.  Everything I keep hearing verifies that course is a beast and deserves the Kona slots.

It only gets Kona slots because of a heritage contract (that is it signed a long term contract with WTC before Providence Equity Management came in and started expanding the brand).  Eagleman and St. Croix are also operating under heritgage contracts.  I'm not sure when any of these contracts end.

Men's 100m Back - Final

Women's 100m Breast - Final

Men's 200m Fly - Semifinal

Women's 200m IM -- Semifinal

FINALLY some backstroke.  I think breaststroke is the most boring to watch (sorry if there are any breaststrokers in the group), and that seemed to be the majority of last night.  I really think fly is the most visually stunning of all swim strokes.  Those women/men look like beasts when they swim it!!!

Can someone please give me the run down on what Ironman training looks like?  How many months would it take to prepare for it? What do the training hours look like?  This would be to compete not complete (if there is such a thing for a first timer.......I guess I mean I would want the full deal training and not the bare min).  Curious here.....

You already know the answer to this . . . it depends on your background, the amount of base you have, what your previous training looks like, your strengths and weaknesses, you susceptibility to injury and on and on.  Also VERY few people train to compete at Ironman.  Its the very pointy end of the field and only at the very end of the race -- I don't train to compete, I train to go as fast as I can on race day.

Glad you are feeling better Kelly.

My kids and I are also loving the swimming trials at night.

Feeling very stressed about kids and work lately. Its exhausting me and I felt it in my swim this morning. I was just tired and for the first time, didn't really feel like doing it. Hope this feeling passes quickly.

Glad to hear you are feeling better!I am on my 3rd pain free day ... YIPPIE!Did a 1.5 mile OW swim tonight. Felt pretty good, arms certainly sore and didn't take into account how sore my legs will feel holding the pull buoy that long. Also, very, very choppy. Took 3 minutes longer per 1/2 mile loop this week, 54 minutes for 1.5 miles. Not that I am fast, but that is slow even for me, ha, haGoing for 2 miles on Saturday!

Oh yeh couple questions and maybe just because I haven't swam much in the last 6 months: At the OW swims I am coming home with my throat feeling raw .. Is that just from breathing through my mouth so much? Also, the longer I swim without stopping my right hand always starts to go numb. If I do short sets it doesn't happen, but longer sets or long OW swims it does. Thoughts?

This answer just isn't going to fly for my husband, as he's asking what kind of time commitment we're looking at here (for me next season).  He wants numbers...obviously it would be an estimate, for me.  I think it will be too hard because the kids are still so young; he thinks I can swing it next September with another year of run training under my belt.

Also, I didn't mean compete the way you took it (not AG podium stuff....that is a pipe dream for me).  I guess I meant I would want to be really, really prepared and train to go as fast as I can on race day vs. doing bare minimum work and worrying about being able to meet cutoff times.

Bike and run done this morning.....TT in pool later.  I'm feeling really fatigued and a TT doesn't sound fun at all, but I'm going to give it my best and hope for improvement.  Rest day tomorrow before Sunday's olympic race.  Can't wait to sleep in tomorrow morning

You'd start at roughly 12-15 hours / week and work up to roughly 18-20 hours per week.  Because you are a really strong swimmer and extra swim time is going to not going to result in big gains you could cut swimming down to once or twice a week, which you cut back the total hours a bit.  Your weekdays would generally look the same, the big change would be adding time to the long bike and long run on the weekends.

That's what I was looking for....just a generic estimate, and that's about what I assumed it would be for me.  I do not think I'm going to go that distance next summer, but he and I have been having this discussion.  I really think it would be best for me to work on my running and cycling at the HIM and olympic distance for another season before I attempt IM (not to mention Fred will be in preschool 2013-14 year, and I'll have more time).

Looks like it's going to be in the 90s for my race on Sunday (more like 80s in the early morning).  I guess we're talking no wetsuit for this one  That's HOT.  Heat advisory here today......supposed to reach 100.

It's only supposed to get up to 98 this Sunday here.  I have 2:40 on wheels and 25 on foot.  That is going to have to start at 6:30 AM.  May head a bit north and west to try and find a bit cooler temps.  Of course that brings hills into the equation which is good since there are rollers on my HIM this fall.

Oh and you're sure you can't find that time to be IM ready in say........ MAY??????

LOL....It would have to be August or September, because I'd need the summer to get in the training. School year is too busy with the kiddos.

Well we seriously need to have a mentor group get together at some IM or HIM in the future.  Maybe Rudy will break his long course retirement or something.

1500 in the pool  this morning which sucked. I felt like I was fighting the water the whole time. Coach said I just looked fatigued. I guess that is what I get for missing two swims ha.

Anyway, I followed that up by a ZR/Z1 run that was probably to hilly for what it was suppose to be but oh well. Tommorrow is a rest day on the schedule.

I got an invite to a team here in VA. The son of the Coach plays on my son's soccer team and I mentioned something about having to run a brick one game to his wife and well one thing led to another. They are having a duathlon tommorrow followed by a family picnic so I think I am going to take a look at the team and stuff. Kelly I know you were on a team and did benefit from it until recently. I have trained by myself for the longest time. Could it be beneficial to join? The Coach does timing as well so they have a lot of team only events as well as local events they put on. Anyone else that is on a "team" I would appreciate your input. It is only $65 a year then additional cost for one-on-one coaching and anything beyond free rides and runs. Thanks for any input.

P.S. I guess a good question would be what do you look for when looking for a team to join?
