The RV is packed, the horse set to stay at the neighbors (he’ll be spoiled by our return), the dogs are excited, and the wife is wondering how is it I do all this and still not lose weight.
All I need to do is complete the HIM Florida (70.3) on Sunday and I will be cruising up the Highway.
I do have a question for anyone who might know. I will be parking at one of the local RV parks but was wondering if Race day parking might be possible. What I’m referring to is my RV and possibly parking the night before (not setting up just parking). This would be the base for my team (Wife, Mother-in-law, and the wolf pack)?
I've looked and don't see a place to park an RV. Even though I'm local, my RV will be at the Rayford Crossing RV park so that it's at least close for my team to get to when I'm on the bike - 15 minute drive. The only race parking the website shows is parking garages, and the mall isn't friendly to RV's. Maybe you could put it an the HEB by Market Street - I'd ask first. The roads in that area are pretty tight so manuevering an RV could be challenging. |

Dang, You are Da Man! Makes my planned 2-hour easy ride / 30 minute jog sound not up to par - I know I need the rest though. Make sure it is a slow training session... Although I could not contemplate doing that I am secretly really jealous you have the ability to do both! |

I am staying at woodland lakes RV and it looks about the same distance - good information on the tight streets. I do not need the stress of that just before the race. The team will just have to make do (they've done it before) and I am positive there will be plenty to accommodate them while we are out there enjoying ourselves.

You may be able to park the RV in the HEB Parking lot, right across the street from transition. A fall back would be to call the people at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, and explain to them what you'd like to do and ask to use their lot. It's less than a 5-minute walk from transition and from the finish line. As long as you'd be gone on Saturday night, they might not have a problem with it. |

Yes it is a short drive, but it's the best option I've found. My dad and his wife will be there and can't be out all day. My wife and kids will volunteer when I'm on the bike, so they will be busy. Dad will have to escape for a little while - drive or no drive. Walmart is generally friendly to RV's, but there isn't a walmart that's within walking distance. So they might as well go where there's power and hookups. I doin't have a generator. |

Member 18 Spring/Woodlands area | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas dodgersmom - 2011-05-12 8:09 AM This is one of the best thins I have read! Don't eat the paste. Ironman in general, but especially the bike leg, is at best a special ed class: you only have to show up with your C game to be at the head of the class. If you find yourself doing the opposite of everyone else, you're doing the right thing. If Jimmy and everyone else is in the corner eating the paste, don't join them! Sit down, do what we're telling you, and don't eat the paste! Lots of people passing you in the first 40 miles? That's good, don't eat the paste. Going backwards through the field on a hill? That's good, don't eat the paste. Think you made the mistake of riding too easy? You now have 26 miles to fix that mistake. Make the mistake of riding too hard? That mistake now has 26 miles to express itself, to the tune of X miles at 17-18' walking pace vs X miles at 8-10' running pace. Do the math. How is that bike split going to look as you are walking/shuffling the last 10 miles of the run? Every time you feel yourself about to get stupid, look at where you are. Are you at The Line? No. Then sit down, shut up, do what you're told and don't be stoopid. Please.
Rich w/ EN absolutly cracks me up !! There is not a PC bone in his body !!!!!!! LOLO |
