Does it border a foreign country?? Does it have a snack-ateria that serves a multi-national variety of wholesome foods |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Carrie-Thank you...and I hope all goes well for you and your back cooperates. Doc-Thanks...I actually thought very seriously about doing a podcast this winter. I listen to many and think I could do one. Maybe someday. I appreciate the thought. Anyone- As it turns out, ascending, then immediately descending roughly 300 stairs, at age 40 causes one's quads and calves to become very sore the next day. Yesterday morning, it didn't seem real strenuous, but this morning...Hokey-Pokey!!! I got up prepared to do my solo-Half-Ironman, but rain was on the way, which actually was a blessing. I decided to postpone it. I don't need to train in the rain. I've trained and raced enough in the rain to know what that's all about, and I didn't need to wreck myself further. Tomorrow is busy, Monday is sunny, so Monday it's on. Hopefully my legs will be recovered from the stair climbing fiasco. Anyway, it gave me some time to go into my classroom to continue making it look less baron, and more like a welcoming third grade environment. ...still manged a 1.2 mile swim before the rain! Peace. |

Veteran 118 Somerset, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Checking in with bib #1980. Definately feels real now. I'm feeling so beat up that I decided to sayt the heck with training today and take a day off. Also needed to earn in a few points on the home front so I ended up working on the much neglected honey do list. We also decided to drive home from Ocean City MD last night instead of today. That meant everybody got a good nights sleep except for me. I had the driving duty and we pulled into the driveway at 1:00 am after 5 hours of straight driving. It was really nice to take a weekend day off. Now one more hard week and taper time!! Peter B |

Regular 99 Holland, Mich. | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Hey, Sam! Just watched your last vid. You know, for me, IM Louisville is only about finishing. That's it. This is my first IM, and I'm not sure if I'll invest in doing an IM every year. Still, you'll probably finish before me. If I get out of the water without being cut-off in the time requirement, I'll be sooooo happy! The rest of the day for me is really about managing the heat, distance, and energy required to finish. For me, that's the reward. Even if this IM isn't what you had hoped for, I really believe that you'll have many, many opportunities in the future! Tailwinds, Todd |

Extreme Veteran 683 Cleveland Area | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Canceling long run and easy ride today. Woke up this morning with two extremely tight and sore hamstrings. Has me wondering what's next for this body. Oh well three weeks baby, I should be in the home stretch of the swim assuming I get in the water close to 7. Nerves and anticipation are building! ..... Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Jillian- Nice work...and that was very thoughtful of you to say. By the way, I saw your post on fb about tapering. My UNscientific thoughts on this matter is to consider what your primary objective is, listen to your body, and respond accordingly. Maybe you need a rest day or so (even though it's not called for), then do the main workout(s) for the third week out, then move into the taper. Work the schedule so it meets your objectives, and don't let it crush you. These are my two cents, I'm sure there are opposing and valid views. |

I am so confused and torn about this tapering thing. My primary objective first and foremost with this being my first ironman is to finish. After all, I did my first ever triathlon (a sprint) September of last year, and my first HIM a month ago, I just don't have the experience to know what to do in this situation. Tomorrow is my rest day, so might be a good time to truly the situation. When I ran my first marathon in December, it took me 3 weeks to recover. I want to show up on race day feeling fresh and ready to go. |

Jillian I have been following your progress in the GA Forum as well and I am excited for you to be doing your first IM in 3 weeks! Let me give you (and anyone else who cares to read) some tapering advice: 1) For the most part the "hay is in the barn" , there isn't a lot you are going to be able to do between now and race day to improve your performance. The human body takes 10-14 days to assimilate training (so that run you did today you will reap the benefits of two weeks from now). 2) If your goal is just to finish (and for the most part I think that covers all of us here), then your focus these last few weeks should be internalizing your race plan and going over it in your head. Make sure that you have your pacing and nutrition plans down pat. Spend a few minutes each night before you go to bed visualizing the race from start to finish. 3) LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! If you wake up tired and unmotivated to workout then skip the workout. You are better off to hit the start line fresh, rested, and having lost a little fitness than trying to squeeze every ounce out of yourself and showing up sluggish, tired, and unmotivated. 4)Last but certainly not least, make sure you enjoy the day. It's going to be hot and at times it really is going to suck. Be prepared for that mentally and push through it, the finish line is worth it trust me! This is my 5th IM and second time at Louisville and I am just as excited for it as my first. Good luck to you all. |
