GRB1 - 2010-07-19 5:39 PM Thanks for all the well wishes.

On a side note did anyone hear from Idealmuse?  She is part of our group but has been pretty quite lately, she was scheduled to race a HIM this past weekend as well.  Hope she did well.

Greg
Yeah believe it or not I'm still here, and I still read... I just got quiet for awhile and then felt a bit embarrassed about chiming back in because of it... but thanks for asking! My HIM went very well over all still working on the race report. Fairly nice weather except for an hour of rain on the bike. Door County Half Ironman is so incredibly run and I'm really happy I picked that one over some of the others I considered. Overall time was 7:24 - Swim as expected, Bike slightly better then expected, and run took longer because I decided to go into a 5run/1walk after mile 2 for a few reasons... but still ran the whole thing other then those 1min walks and just one 5 minute walk break to chew on some ice. Even if you double my time and add an hour for IM plus an extra hour for the hills... I should be able to make IMOO happen. Congrats on everyone who raced this past weekend and good luck with next weekend!!! I'm off to go look for your race reports.

Good to hear the race went well.  I'm starting to get a little nervous about IMOO, can't believe it is only 8 weeks away.  Time to hit the training hard, for me at least.

Josh-thanks for the info.

Anyone know what the warm up is like before an IM?  I was expecting to get in the water and do a couple hundred yards, but is this not the norm?

My warmup will be the first 2.4 miles of the race

No seriously... it's a long day... do you really want to come charging out of the gate at threshhold after burning some of those precious energy reserves on a warmup swim?  Since "IM-pace" is probably not too different than warmup pace, I'd recommend against it.

That said, I'd be shocked if they didn't let people in the water after the pros take off but before our start.

I know we have one person doing IMAZ this year and just a weird story here in Arizona. One of the rubber dams that holds the water in Tempe Town Lake were a lot of local triathlons are held broke last night and the whole lake drained. They are thinking they will have the lake open by Early November which would be in time for IMAZ but not for Nathan's Olympic or SOMA 1/2 IM that I'm doing. I don't think they have a plan B for these races so I don't know what they will do.

I saw that, that is totally crazy! I hope they are able to figure out an alternative swim venue for your HIM. I'm going to be watching this with some interest since I'm starting to toy with the idea of doing IMAZ next year. Crazy that it could just break like that.

I saw the thread on this in the tri forum!!

Crazy stuff!  The few posts that I read were all discussing the IM so I didn't realize it was going to affect your half!!  I hope they get it figured out for you as I imagine the options aren't plentiful!

NOT!

Just wanted to share with you guys one of the goals that has been on the dashboard of my blog all year... it was to be able to post before and after pictures and be proud of what I've done.  Well, here they are.  FYI I am 30 years old in the final 3 pictures (so you can see what happened in less than 12 months)... this is 66 pounds in 9 months.

Wow Josh... you look great!  That 66lbs is total, you can see that you obviously lost more than 66lbs of fat and replaced it with lean muscle.  That's an incredible change.

I am the one doing IMAZ.  I'm pretty confident they'll have something figured out by then.  It's supposed to be solved by then, so hopefully it will.

Sorry to hear about the SOMA HIM, I'm sure the event organizer is already trying to figure out a plan B as we speak.

As for the water supply in the area, I'm sure they will divert water from the reservoirs up stream that normally help fill town lake.  Plus, I'm sure they never actually drain the entire thing each year with local water use, they do normally leave a buffer so that the reservoirs never drop too low and dry up completely.  They just might put some precautions in place like limits on watering the lawns and stuff like that, I'm sure everyone in the area would understand that.

It was probably a sight to see though when it happened.  I wonder if kayakers were scrambling to get out there  I know if something like that happened here kayakers would be leaving work to go for it... I know there's one location that they open the dam up around here only twice a year for about a week and it's a major event for all the kayakers, creates some class 5 rapids that those guys are not willing to pass up.

Maybe I'm just weird but all I tended to look at was the shark and the S80 wheels. Also...great job on the weigh loss. It is such an amazing experience to look at before and after pictures. Go get 'em this weekend.

It broke at about 10pm last night so no kayakers were in the water. I'm almost 100% sure that the water will be ready to go for IMAZ. We should know in the next week or so what the deal is with the 1/2 IM that is scheduled for Oct 24th. Crazy that almost a "Billion" gallons of water ran out of the lake in less than 6 hours.
