Expert 1128 Fort Riley, Kansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thanks for all the advice on my swimming woes, I had a little shoulder pain yesterday and went for a short 1400 M swim yesterday and really focus on my stroke and not crossing my body and going slow and steady and the swim was pain free. I have been icing since last night and have a 3400 M swim planned for tomorrow. |

Regular 139 Quincy | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I realized yesturday that my summer is almost over. I have to be back at school next Wed (being a teacher). IMKY is also just around the corner. I am not sure which one I am more ready for. My oldest started tackle football last night and we jst got a new kitten. I have a million things that need to get done. Well back to work. At least I already got a run in this morning. Oh by the way I cannot wait to see everyone in Louisville. Even if I do not get to see all of you in person just knowing you are on the course (ahead of me) will make it more fun. |

I read a race report the other day where 2 BTers in 2008 or 2009 met up on IMKY course and ran 25 miles together to help each other finish the race. I anticipate being in a bad place on the run (especially after the turnaround near the finish line) and I think something like that would be kind of cool. Alan |

With the exception of The Cube (hehehe jp), I know that when I'll be suffering you guys/gals might be too, this will give me a lift to get through to the finish. We're all in this together.Doing the best I can with this nasty hip bursitis: KT Tape, Ultrasound, accupuncture, ice, rest. |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Looks like things are coming together...and falling apart, but either way, the date is getting closer. Try to keep you pieces and parts in tact MEET UP UPDATE: As far as the meet-up, my intention is very simple. I am looking for us to meet briefly prior to the Athlete Dinner so we at least know where each other are. I pictured myself saying a little something, and I still might, but I haven't decided yet. The primary purpose is so we can go into the dinner and have a chance of being near a BT'er when we go in. If we don't meet, I would be wondering..."Is that Cube? Fesslern? Jillian? Doc? Todd? Ashleigh? Carrie? Lisa?" and the extensive list goes on. So my vision is for us to meet at the bottom of the stairs that lead to the dinner (if you enter from the street level), say "Hello," etc. and then go into the dinner. This is of course not ideal, but I know we have various other family and personal obligations, so my thought was to keep it simple and in line with what our mutual schedules might call for anyway. I know logistically, for Timberman 70.3 last year, there was a lot of work trying to get us at the same time at the same place, that was not part of the athlete's schedule. This is why I'm trying to keep it simple and easy. Does this make good sense? I can try to be more specific with where later. The dinner I believe starts at 5:30, so I figured we could meet at 5:00-ish, maybe 5:15. THOUGHTS? This doesn't have to be my baby, I just thought I would put it out there. Mind you, I am practical to a fault. |

Expert 1143 Wellington, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Last LONG run DONE here, 16mi. Just let the body run today, didnt hold back or push the pace and ran 9:12s...felt ok, not great/not bad. Still trying to deside what shoes to wear, I train in the KSwiss Ultra Nutral, but have been racing my 70.3s in my Kona C's. Wore the Kona my last two runs (20 & 16mi) and my right arch starts hurting around mile 12-14. Today switch back to the Ultra Nu @ mile 13 and everything felt good last 3 miles. This being my first IM, I have VERY thin goals and If its HOT i'll shut it down and go into survival mode. Coaches plan is to just let the race come to me. In his words, "The races dosn't start til mile 20 of the run, everything before that should just be cruised" Thats being said, Goal Time....: Goal #1...finish Goal #2...finish under 14hrs Super Happy Goal #3...finish under 13hrs. |

Also we can set a time for a lite swim together on Sat morning?? Im also doing a lite run on Fri morning if anyone is around and interested....Lite run= 20-30min suffle max. I know I will be meeting up with two buddies and their wives for the dinner so it would be nice to meet the BTers first case we cant all sit at tables together....thoughts? |

That's my plan too... I got good advice earlier this season... for any given distance... stay calm for the bike and swim until you learn how to have a good run. Last year I got killed on the last 13 miles of the run. This year, I'm staying more calm prior and having a good run. Remind me of this if you see me |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread MEET UP CONVERSATION CONT...: Cube and others, I don't have a problem with an earlier meeting time and a different location to meet. The biggest challenges will likely be these... * We currently have 18 people who have formally let me know they want to meet. This is not a challenge in and of itself, the challenge is finding a place where 18 people can meet and be together. Having said that, I may be complicating the issue in my head. *I suppose a person could suggest a locale and those that want to stop for a beverage can, and those that don't want to, don't need to. The challenge here will be identifying one another. *I am certainly open to other suggestions, however, in addition to the other suggestions, if people still want to meet prior to the dinner, we still could do that if people want to hang out at the dinner. This would not be an either or situation. Continued thoughts welcomed and encouraged. |

There is a Starbucks in the KICC. In 2007, someone made a sign and we all met at said sign in the KICC for the banquet. |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I like the idea of meeting up before the Athlete's Dinner. I'm traveling by myself for this race and it would be nice to sit with a group. The preview swim is another good option. It worked well in CDA last year - we had a pretty big group. I'm just not familiar with the area, so I can't add to the discussion of where exactly to meet. |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Last two monster weeks done! It's almost surreal. Just when I'm getting to the point of actually feeling good towards the end of long workouts, it's time to shut it down. I was kind of looking forward to another epic ride this weekend - I guess that's a good sign. No more 6+ hour rides? No more 20-mile runs? Just a few more 2-mile swims? Okay...so I'm not really looking forward to those :P I've had to travel inland quite a ways to access heat. Still not much humidity, but I'm hoping all of the climbing and trail work above a mile high will pay off. I can't help but start second guessing myself tho. People keep asking me if I'm ready. Am I excited? I have no idea. At least I'm not petrified. Yet. That will probably come with time. Intensity, swimming and hot yoga will be the key for me in these last few weeks. Enjoy your taper everyone. Err on the side of rest. |
