Good Morning Team.

I hope everyone is doing well.

It has been a busy week so far for me - some work, some workouts and some fun. Went to the Lions Game on Monday night (sorry time and sarah and all you other Bears fans) GO LIONS! I also went to the Tigers Game on Tuesday - very sad about my tigers but you never know - have to win tonight though.

Just one more real busy week ahead - next week in Prince Edward Island with the girls golf team - should be fun but hectic and I am hoping to get a few runs in while I am there.

Keith - to answer your question about the bike - it is listed for just over 3K but after all is said and done - I am guessing 4K - oh well, as my Mom always told me "it's only money" LOL.

Naked Kevin - nice report and great job this season.

Mary - Hang in there.

Brian - those guys are nuts!

Have a great day everyone.

KC

Sarah - I do all my training on my own.  Every once in a while I ahve a group that I ride with or do some brick workouts with.  I probably should workout with them more often as they are all unbelievable athletes and force me to really step it up but I found that if I did that too often I was getting hurt.  I like to just do my own thing and get inmy own zone - thats what you have to do at races anyways -right?

Brian - Checked out that site therun.org.  Pretty cool that you got to meet up with those guys.  I have always been entrigued by the people who do those cross country trips.  Running might be tough - I will do it on bike sometime.  My wife thought I was crazy this summer when I told her that when Evan is 18 I want to do a cross country bike ride with him.

So no baby yet - due date is next saturday.  We will find out more on Monday at Dr. visit.  I have found that I have been pretty lazy this week with workouts due to my wife's list of stuff to get done before baby, trying to get caught up at work since I will be taking time off and her lack of energy-haha

As far the Triathlon Report - glad that everyone seems to like it.  I am updating it pretty much everyday with new tips and articles so feel free to spread the word on the website and we will see what happens.

What should I be really focusing on during this pre-training stage.  I noticed that David did one of his workouts from his IM plan.  I kind of feel lost right now.  I have been trying to get 1-2 long rides on trainer staying in Zone 2 since most of my IM training will be like that.   Not sure if I should have something more structured or just take it easy until 1st of year then focus January on getting back up to speed and starting IMWI trainging Feb 13.  Thoughts?

Hey Tim - posted the link to your report on my facebook page for you - I love it.

As far as training is concerned, I am feeling in the same boat as you right now. I am busy with work and finishing up the college golf season so I guess I kind of knew I was going to be hit and miss this time of year. I am trying to squeeze whatever I can in when I can. I have spoken to Coach and I am hoping to get down to visit him in early November for some IM planning and maybe some golf if the weather permits. (You hear that Coach, so take it easy on me if we golf LOL)

I am looking forward to getting into a solid routine once I get a plan together. I know I am going to need some serious help with it, that is for sure.

Anyway, was thinking about a winter trip to Chicago to see the band - are your dates set for the next few months?

KC - although I have ZERO experience at full IM - from what I have read as long as you stick to ANY plan and nail a majority of the workouts you will at least finish strong.  If you want to finish faster the I think you really need to focus on a detailed, custom plan.  You wil lbe fine with whatever plan you come up with.  but then again i could be completely wrong -haha

I have a couple huge shows coming up this winter/Spring:

DEC. 16 - Bourbon Street (southside of Chicago) Huge venue and great time

JAN 21 & MAR 10 at Joe's on Weed Street. (Best venue in Chicago!!)

KC - 4000$ really isn't that bad.  I thought it would list between 6 and 8.

Had a really good (almost) seven mile run this morning.  8 minute miles.  Getting there.

Hi group,

Based on the message above mine, it looks like we've been hacked!

So I arrived in San Francisco yesterday, and immediately went to pick up my race kit (it took about 10 minutes to get my bib).  I went by the pick up today as well, a couple of times, and am sooo glad I got it done yesterday - the lines were crazy today!

I'm trying to be a good little runner (and stay sitting down). I caved this morning and did a bit of sight-seeing, but tried to stick to things with small amounts of walking (i.e. riding cable cars and a harbour cruise).  I've been back at the hotel for an hour and am resting my legs.  I will head down to the hotel restaurant for some spaghetti in a few hours, then call it a day. Race day is tomorrow.  I'm still nervous, but less of a basket case than I have been for the past few weeks.  I think actually being here helps - as does talking to some of the other ladies who will be running.

I'll try to check in again tomorrow to let you know how it turned out.

Hey Team.

I leave for the Canadian College Golf Championships in Prince Edward Island tomorrow morning with the female golf team from the college. Should be fun. I will check  in from the east coach. I am hoping to do some running and swimming while I am out there.

Heather - we are all cheering for you tomorrow - have a great race.

Brian - was talking to the Coach yesterday and we were wondering if you might be able to suggest places to stay next summer for the IM NYC?

Thanks Team.

Heather - good luck and have fun at the race today!

KC - safe travels and good luck at the tourney this week!  I try to avoid drama and the issues we had with the training group were pretty much centered around one person.  She can be very sweet and nice and then turn around and talk smack about you behind your back.  I was in a bad position b/c she had never done anything to me directly so I was friends with her, while also friends with the people that did not like her.  I hate being caught in the middle like that. I just wanted to train, people! Undecided

Looks like we're all in the same boat now that race season is over...enjoying the break but itching to get started into a routine again Laughing  Speaking of routine, I finally got the pool yesterday and did about 1200m.  It wasn't as boring as my previous pool workouts, haha!  I first did 1000m and then worked on flip turns.  Got water up my nose a couple times but started getting the hang of it towards the end.

It's raining and cold today so no run outside for me.  Either a spin class or run on the dreadmill Frown

Rough ride with the guys from Vision Quest yesterday.  20 plus and getting dropped.  I am not recovered from Ironman   Going to go in for surgery on Wednesday for the hernia I've had for over a year.  No big deal.  Great time to get it done.  Will be back to work by Monday or so I'm told.  Back on the bike and run when the pain lets me...doc saya s week or two...easy does it as I ramp up into winter schedule which will require lots of endurance rides on the CT of 2 and 3 hours to drop weight to get faster on shorter courses.

Sooo.. I completed a marathon! I walked way more (okay, most) of the second half than planned, but the hills from miles 6-10 were more insane than I was expecting and they kind of kicked my . Final time was probably around 6:10. I would try to post some kind of race report, but (to be honest) a lot of the details are kind of fuzzy.  I remember starting; I remember the amazing views of the Golden Gate bridge; I remember running by the ocean; I remember chanting "RFP" over and over again around mile 21; I remember awesome conversations with strangers; then I remember finishing and accepting my pretty blue box from a cute firefighter in a tux and running shoes.

None of my fears came true - I didn't get pulled off the course by the scary minivan; no sharks were spotted; I didn't give up (unless slowing to a walk counts as "giving up"); and I made it to the finish line in one piece.

Nike totally does it right. There were a few (small) nitpicks about (minor) things that went wrong, but I'll save that for Nike (when they ask).  The starting line (with 22000 other women (and a few men)) was filled with amazing energy. The distractions kept coming up whenever I would find myself thinking that it was "too hard". The Tiffany necklace (in place of a finisher's medal) kicks . I spent a bunch of money on "finishers" items at the end, but since I'm not sure I'll ever do another one of these, it seemed like a great idea at the time.

I'm so happy (and tired) right now; and am debating between heading out for dinner, or ordering room service and crashing.

May I go out on a limb here and say you sir are too hard on yourself.  That is a great time. The mental part of this is very important.  I spent nearly as much time on it as I did getting ready physically for Ironman.  Positive self talk is a skill.  It has to be practiced.  Mantras are easiest.  I am a strong runner, I am a strong runner...  Light, quick, light, quick...Live Strong, Live Strong ...  All that really helps.  I had to practice it during training.  It became second nature.  I quit listening to music and started practicing this because they don't allow music during races anyway.  It works!

I am gonna have to agree with Scott here - Just even your language in the report is getting you off to a bad start before the gun even goes off.  You CAN BEAT that 'Usual Mental Block".  Maybe you need to just run a race without setting high goals for it.  Give yourself some easily accomplished times, make them and then improve from there.  If you are expecting that mental block to come - it sure as hell will each and every time.

I think you already have a plan set up for working on running during the offseason so you are off to good start.  Work on the mental aspect of it.  I try and make each workout like it is the race.  Doesn't have to be race effort but just put yourself in different situations mentally and break through them.  And they all don't have to be bad situations either.  Even if you are at mile 1 on a slow jog -Picture yourself on mile 3.5 and feeling strong.  It works.   With some work you will be fine.

So I was getting pretty bummed out about missing A BUNCH of workouts last week and decided to give myself a little boost.  I decided to do some role playing -haha.  This week is the first week of Ironman training.  I am doing everything from bedtime routine, nutrition and workouts this week to help fine tune once everythign really kicks in.

Did my first Fink swim workout and went pretty good - 2500 Yards.  Kind of dragged from my lack of swimming lately but got er' done.  Run at lunch.

Brian - after looking at the Fink consistency you probably have nightmares about it-haha  Monday Rest Day, Tuesday swim/run, Wed bike, etc.....

Cool rainy morning, so I was debating wether to go out or not. Glad I did.  As soon as I started I knew it was going to be a good one.  Ran a new route that I was hoping would be around 7.5 to 8 miles long.  The cool rain probably helped.  The route turned out to be just over 9 miles and I cruised at 8:15 a mile with gas left in the tank.  Wish they could all be that easy.
