So you think my pre wo meal oaf a slice of zucchini bread and pb was lacking Good smoothies recipeIf I had only coconut water to survive on I may be thinner than you.

Well, assuming you have a zucchini and banana bread tree in your backyard as then they would qualify for "real" food. And now you have a pncake tree as well...

Zucchini picked from the farm across the way and baked by the farmers wife. Still working on the pancake tree, how awesome would that be!

With the amount of pancakes my daughters go through I'd plant one in the back yard.

Shaun thinks we have a special pancake tree that grow chocolate chip pancakes.

For me pancakes are my special day before race breakfast.

No, No, No, I took the gel prior to the start and about every 25 minutes, but its in a flask so not a total gel every time.  I probably felt that way cuz I hadn't done more than 10 miles in a month, and 13 in almost 2 months (cuz of injury), plus dehydration and maybe nutrition.  And my body was not totally acclimated to the heat and it is SUPER humid out here.

In about 3 hr 45 min, 16 miler, I probably had 8 fuel belt bottles with gatorade endurance, maybe a cup or two of water, and probably almost a full gel flask (smaller flask) and 1 gel packet at the beginning.

That's why I like the shot bloks, its constant small amounts of calories.

What kind of gels do you use?

does 1% chocolate milk count as a recover drink??

I never eat before i work out, and when i do, all of my nutrition comes in liquid form during, i have a hard time with solids while working out, I cant seem to swallow solids.

Before a race, i will eat a PB&J and a bananna, and 1 bottle of EFS mixed a littly heavy, short races i use no nutrition, just something to wet mouth, i am a mouth breather and my mouth gets dry. On longer workouts i use the EFS shots mixed with EFS powder dependent on length of session. Most of my Hard interval workouts are late in the day, so i have already consumed plenty of calories.

I do not diet during race season, but once the season ends i get pretty strict with caloric intake, well, strict for me anyway. I have about 20-25lbs more to go, i would like to be below 200lbs to start next years bike season. 185-190 would be ideal, and i think i could compete at CAT 2/3 at that weight.

I have a good recipe for chocolate chip pancakes that come out a bit healthier due to the use of oats if you want it.

Just tried shot blocks the other day and like them.  Those and the GU Roctanes.

I use hammer gels.  Used Gu til about 6 or so months ago, hammer is a little less sweet.

So does no one else feel highs and lows of gels? or you take gels/blocks constantly enough to offset that?

I'm wondering if you're feeling the caffeine and not the sugar.

That could be.  There isn't a ton of caffeine in those, but if you're stim sensitive it could have an effect.

Gu chomps are good, not a big fan of cliff blocks (taste), but the packaging is much better than gu.   The hammer flasks are super handy too and may be the reason I use hammer.

First Roctane I had had a very bad aftertaste.  Don't like powerbar gels.

Powerbar perform is awesome, gatorade endurance does the job.  Don't like any hammer drinks (almost ralph them up) except recoverite and that is a bit hard to get down.

Maybe, but I doubt it unless a fatigued body will react quicker or more prominently to caffeine . . . (in a whisper . . . I drink a red bull in the mornings and other than the crash without it, I don't get a buzz or anything).

However, I take the Hammer insurance caps (basically, vitamins) and I notice a drop in energy/lack of energy without taking them and maybe don't even need the caffeine.  Yes, trying to wean myself from the red bull . . . and yes I likely am missing stuff from my daily diet.

Chocolate Endurox is so much better than Recoverite.

uhcoog - 2011-07-07 8:14 AM Sometimes I get the feeling I'm the only person in the world that knowing the outcome of a sporting event does not spoil my viewing pleasure.  World Cup, Olympics, etc.  Never bothers me that I know who wins ahead of time.
Naw I'm with you-I enjoy watching the sport. sometimes I like it even better when i know the outcome and then I relax and take things in.

Wow, people.  You've been busy this morning.

I usually don't eat anything before my workouts.  If I'm going for a long run first thing in the morning, then I'll eat a piece of toast and drink a cup of coffee.  I'll take a Gu every 4 miles + tons of water.  Most of my runs are first thing in the morning - on an empty stomach.  If the workout lasts longer than 1:30 hours, I'll drink something for recovery.  Today my run was 7 miles slow (over an hour) and I didn't take in anything for it.  I ate my normal 1/2 cup oats, raisins, almonds, and almond milk right after though.  On the drive over to the beach (for my swim) I ate a string cheese and 1/2 bag of grapes.  I only snacked because it had been 3.5 hours since I'd eaten, and my swim would have been crap on no food.  I pretty much eat all day long, but I usually pick veggies, fruit, yogurt, nuts, etc.  I'm crazy when it comes to food.

OWS went really well.  The Lake was rough!  I met another triathlete in the water.  He's actually doing the same triathlon this week (and the one 2 weeks after that), so we had a lot to talk about.   Just a side note.... If I were single, this would be a great way to pick up dudes .

Nope, no chocolate anything for workouts.  I am not sure how you all eat chocolate or coffee stuff.  It would just make me thirsty as all heck and just not a good workout flavor for me.  I tend to stick to orange, tropical, vanilla, bland.

Chatty people today, cool!

I decided to do some housework instead of a ride today. I needed to swap out the media on my swamp cooler and now it's MUCH cooler in the house I'll probably go for a ride this evening, even if it's just a ride on my mtb.

For nutrition, I'm the last to ask! I tend to eat a bagel with PB every morning and have some water. I drink a ton of water (it's hot in the desert!) on my rides and runs. I have started to try a GU prior to longer rides and even my swim sessions (to get the belly accustomed to it). Not sure it helps or not, but if I plan on eating a GU on race day before my swim I figure I should test that theory out.

Recovery, I don't do anything special. I've tried the chocolate milk deal and it's ok. Most do chocolate milk vs other products for the cost factor more than anything.

That's great.   It is hard to do and somehow get your body used to the lack of sugar/caffeine energy.

I need to quit red bull . . .
