After a few weeks of searching on e-bay and a lot indecision:I GOT MY RACING WHEELS!!!

They are not the sexiest, deepest or disk. But they are feather light. Yeah Maurice, I ended up going with tubulars. Reading and talking to friends finally convinced me. The difference on max pressure and weight was the key thing. Like you said, I'll have to master repairing a flat and say my best prayers before a race so it doesn't happen!!!
Here they are, check them out:

Hi there.

I posted awhile ago that my swimming endurance sucked. Well I stuck with it, and I turned 50m into about 1500m. Problem is I'm sloooow. I did a 750m TT today and it took me 25 min! That's 3:20/100m! I have a sprint in May with a 750m pool swim and I would like to get faster. What is the best way to do this? Intervals? Like sprint for 100m, rest, repeat for a set number of times?

Thanks!

Just my opinion......
I think that swimming its the more technical of the three disciplines. That's why I see the benefit of training with a masters team or any swim coach. They will first make your stroke more efficient and improve your technique and then work on your endurance/performance.

There's some good workouts, drills, programs on this (BT) website, you can also try:http://www.totalimmersion.net/home

Just doing laps helps your endurance, but never as much as all the different drills, rest intervals, sprints, ect that a coach will give you. When you push yourself really hard in the water, it improves your overall fitness a lot. You'll even see a great difference in the tone of your muscles without touching a dumbell!! But it has to hurt and you really have to push hard. IT'S WORTH IT!!!
And like everything else, try to be consistent.

Unfortunately a coach for private lessons isn't in the cards for me right now. I looked into the Masters group we have here but it sounds like I am too slow for their slowest lane (wow, that's embarrassing).

I've played golf with scratch players and I am a 30 some handicap. It was only embarrasing in my mind. They were super cool.
Embarrasing observing your body grow while watching TV while eating junk food and alcohol everyday. Embarrasing not ever trying............
Go for it !!!!! They will love you because YOU ARE TRYING!!!! I guess this is what triathlon is all about!!!

Totally agree here. Swimming is totally technical. I was reading (just today actually) a tri book in barnes and noble and there was some note about you could double your swim training and get marginal time benefits if you just did pure distance. Work on form. Have you done any drills? A Masters class would be ideal, but some youtube videos and some drillwork will get you started.

What gets sore when you swim? Your shoulders? Your lats?

You did an AWESOME job getting the distance up, it is just a matter of time before you get your speed down. GREAT work.

Thanks Guys!
I think they are great overall wheels. Aero and fast and light for climbing. I'm doing Augusta 70.3 in September and I understand is a bit hilly. They are still on the way, can't wait to see them on my bike! I'll post a picture.
Also getting an aero helmet. Now I just need a new pair of legs!!!! As soon as weather stabilizes I really want to log some serious miles.

Actually that's the thing, I don't really get tired or sore. I feel like I could keep going. Usually I stop after 30-40 minutes because I go swimming on my lunch break and I have to get back to work.

I've been watching some YouTube videos, I think I really need to work on my catch and pull. I can see what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for the advice!

I am not a swim coach, but one thing I can ask is... how long is your pool? 25m or 25y? Regardless of either, count your strokes to get from one side to another. Time your length as well. Then play around with a faster stroke and see if you get any faster or just more tired.

LOL....... this one was a steal..... found some reward points from an online bike store I never used.
It was cheap but I think it is great.    Plus it will make me 2 seconds faster over a 100 mile ride!!!! Isn't that great!????? ....................... oh well, I guess it looks cool....................

Yep this month.  Excited to see where I am.  Had an indoor 5k last week that I did while on the road and not feeling well.  But at least I have a basis for my run fitness right now.

Weather has been so weird this winter that I have no idea what to expect on the bike.

First race March 20th. I've been making progress but last two days felt so sick, decided to rest.
Today I resume running and tomorrow back to swimming and hopefully weekend some good bike rides.

Question: I want to get a more agressive aero position on my bike. I'll wait until after the first race. Any recommendations here?????

I got my inicial set up, from when I started triathlon about a year ago, and I think I can go lower and more forward..........
Don't want to mess anything on my bike or myself!!
Thanks

Have you been properly fitting on your bike? if not, id say do that.. sometimes a more aggressive position can be counterproductive. breathing pattern, lower back, and maybe some more stuff.

you may just need to be fit or re-fit.. as your body changes from training, weights, and diet so does the way you do things..

Thanks Maurice,
I got my bike fitted when I bought it, but like you said, a lot of things have changed since then. I am going to schedule a new fitting same day after the race. That's the right thing to do. Thanks again and good luck on your race, I'm sure you'll do great!

A real bike fit every now and then is great.  I end up making some minor adjustments myself over time during long rides.  When I'm ramping up miles I definitely rtain with my multitool in my seatbag.

The other thing is working on your flexibility... free speed!

Shane, what do you do for flexibility? Yoga? Stretching?
And speaking of streatching? What do you think of pre-workout streatching?
Any specific suggestions........ highly appreciated!

stretching before working out has been a big topic, for a long time.. for/against..

i always stretch alittle before it do any training.. at one point i use to do polyometrics before training.. thats what it did when i ran track in high school/college.. pay off in my opinion

I tell people i coach to warm up for about 10 mins before working out.. (its something i practice most times..) i my mind it works.. it also helps me focus on what ever i am doing that day..

yoga is great.. i use to practice it alot.. kinda tapered off.. sucks, damn life getting in the way..

highly recommended.. maybe ill go tomorrow.

Local YMCA offers Yoga.  Now is just a matter of finding the time to do it............. Seems like at work, they don't understand I have important stuff to do!!
Thanks Maurice, I'll make it one of my goals to attend, ideally, onece a week. Specially now, with a new aero position in my bike, I'll need some extra flexibility.

Is once a week enough to make significant changes, do you think? Pondering where to fit yoga into my schedule and having the same issue, wondering whether one Saturday morning class is enough.
