Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Challenge Chat (aka Nibbs XV) - come join us :) Artemis - 2008-04-15 10:20 AM I'm tired and depressed today. I'm sick of not being able to run and train like I want to. Can I join the club?
Seriously - hang in there and try to see the longterm picture... short term patience for long term gain... consistency is better than BIGness (nah thats not really a word) Maybe you need a time out from training all together... this is meant to bring you joy not stress! |

It's more that I'm injured and can't train. Once I get better, I think I will be less depressed. I find out tomorrow if I need surgery. If I do, I'll be out for about two weeks and then I'll really be ready to get back to it. |

I am hoping the doctor gives you the news with the least amount of recovery time whether that is surgery or wait and heal. Injuries suck!!! I went through the same feelings in November. But at least I wasn't facing possible surgery. Tomorrow you will know what you are dealing with and can plan your training and racing accordingly. |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Challenge Chat (aka Nibbs XV) - come join us :) Hi Nibbs! Here's the deal from my appointment today: 1) I do not have a hernia. 2) I do have a neuroma (inflammed ball of nerves) in my abdomen as a result of my appendectomy. This is causing hypersensitivity and pain in my abdomen. 3) I might have a gall bladder stone, made worse by the neuroma. So, the plan is to try lidocaine patches (like nicotine patches, but for pain relief) for a few days. If that's helping, I probably don't have a gall bladder problem. If not, I have to go back for a gall bladder scan. If the gall bladder scan is clear, we're going to do cortisone injections around the neuroma. He said I can try running if the lidocaine is starting to be effective and see how it goes. If the lidocaine doesn't cut it, again, we'll go to injections. His goal is to have me diagnosed by the end of next week. |

I'm hoping to be able to do a race at the end of June. Taking it slow and easy for now. |

I should have thought gall bladder...I had mine out a few years ago, and come to think of it, I was having some of the same symptoms. Kind of. But not exactly. Anyway, laproscoped it out - I have 4 cute little scars on my belly & I'm all good now...not the end of the world, even if it is the problem. Glad to hear you are finding some (hopefully) answers. |
