Unless you are really in shape anyway and this is just a warm up. If you miss a workout SELDOM IF EVER should you try to make it up. If you miss a week just start back at that week. |

Master 2033![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Team Skinny - Back to School (Sept 08)I would back my training up a week if I could without interfering with my race. I have also just split the difference until I was caught up so maybe run 5 if that feels good the keep inching it up till you are back on track. Almost no one stays rigidly with their plan as it is written. Be flexible and just stay excited you are making progress. Also... why not run in the rain? If I didn't run in the rain I would never run. (Seattleites have a different view on sports and rain) |

If I didn't run in the rain I would never run. (Seattleites have a different view on sports and rain) Running in the rain is not the problem. It's the lightening that is popping all around here that worries me. I don't think me pushing my training back a week is going to effect my race since I still have over a year to get ready for it. The thing that is really going to set me back quite a bit is the shoulder surgery that I am going have to have in the middle of January. They say I should be back to full mobility with in 6 months, and my first race is July 4th weekend. So hopefully I should be good to go if not I may have to push my race back a month or so. But we will cross that bridge when we get there. Peace, Chris |

Regular 90![]() ![]() ![]() Palatka, Florida | Subject: RE: Team Skinny - Back to School (Sept 08)No, I've had this surgery once about 10 years ago. They put in three metal clips to help hold my shoulder in the socket. After a football injury I had a bad problem with my shoulder sliping out of the joint. Up until about a year ago everything was fine. But I started getting a dull pain, with some grinding and then the pain got even worse. After the usuall MRI's, CT scans, and x-rays he thinks on of the clips has worked its way out of the bone and is floating around in the joint. He said that it should be an out patient surgury. I have another appointment in a couple of weeks to go over my CT scan and I will talk with him about it then. But I don't think there will be a problem. Peace, Chris |

Tonight is yoga though. Maybe I can take yoga easy??? --Josh R. |

It is days like that in college and medical school that led to my being massively out of shape...Feeling like there was no time to exercise, no time to eat right, no time to get proper sleep. I think its really great that you are trying to keep in shape and train while going to school! |

Master 1726![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sacramento, California | Subject: RE: Team Skinny - Back to School (Sept 08)So...I am feeling a little frustrated and I think it is of my own doing. I weigh my self approximately 4-5 times a day and then obscess over the little excursions up and down in my weight. I get really discouraged if it goes up one day, or even one time (although really its the morning one that I fret about the most). I think I need to limit myself to once a day or maybe even every other day...I am currently running M/W/F/Sun, maybe I should weight myself only on those mornings and not on T/Th/Sat so that I don't see my post-run, still a little dehydrated weight. Anyone have any advice? |

Anyone have any advice? Hey Katie, I have been told that it is better to only weigh yourself once a week. Then that way you are not getting frustrated the rest of the week with if you see your weight go up one day and down the next. I know that it has helped me out a lot just weighing in once a week. Peace, Chris |

Regular 204![]() ![]() BA, Oklahoma | Subject: RE: Team Skinny - Back to School (Sept 08)Holy smokes, Katie...don't weigh yourself multiple times a day, you will go nuts!! I would say at most do once a day, same time each day (upon waking up is best), although if you can, once a week works fine too. I personally do the daily thing, because I know how whacky your weight can vary, and I would hate to catch my only weigh of the week on a high water day and think I was not doing well when the day before and the day after weigh-in you showed weight loss. It just helps me keep an eye on how I am doing and not getting out of hand. I also LOG it every day and BT will give me monthly averages over time you can watch the trend go down. |

Champion 5807![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Henderson NV | Subject: RE: Team Skinny - Back to School (Sept 08)Shermmie, Life gets a lot easier when you die. I prefer life's little dramas and then go run/bike/swim and let the chips fall. Few (maybe none) will understand this but after what I have done most of my life and places I have been there is little that can get me all that excited. Most things that people fret about on a daily basis just are not that Earth shattering. I have customers that get mad because they see A bug and get mad if I don't drop everything to run 20 miles to their house (the bug may very well be dead as well). I'm sorry it is sunday and I am 15 miles away from home on my bike so you just might have to WAIT for me to see that DEAD bug. |

Not distance or time but rather that we stick to our training plan. I have found that I never stick to whatever plan I am following. If it says 45 min, I go 90 min's. If it calls for 15 miles, I go for 30. Rests days, yeah right, I am doing something. |
