I still want to know, how do they make those hills bigger on the second loop??

The trick is to train on bigger, longer and steeper hills.  Then when you get to LP on race day the hills seem like rollers.  Wink

I was glad to hear about the recent road work. I hope it was done on the long downhill to Keene. Dodging those potholes at 51 mph in the rain was not fun a few weeks ago!

Nope.  New pavement ended just before the end of the lake.  The Keene descent is the same old road.

I agree with this actually!  I was shocked at how not a big deal it was.  Granted i biked at a super super ez pace, but none the less.

Easy for you Pennsy people to find such hills... Here in NJ, we just got those little annoying bumps.

FWIW, I did Black Bear half and I averaged 1.6mph faster on the first loop of my training ride in LP.

30 days and counting.

This is going to be so much fun.  I should be in LP Wednesday 22nd before noon.  My plan is to ride 1 loop (with out the Haselton Rd out and back) Wednesday afternoon.  Then do an Wednesday evening swim.  Thursday morning do a 6-8 mile run then drive the course.  Friday a swim, bike down to Keene and back, followed by short 3 mile run.

To much?

It sounds like a lot just days before the race. Especially the Friday bike to Keene and back. Doing that Keene hill backwards is a but to each their own. I would change that to maybe biking the run course (or River Road twice) followed by a 3 mile run.

It's my feeling that the few days before the race training is just to keep you from going stir crazy from the taper. You will not gain anything from 3000' of climbing 2 days before an IM but you will take a chance on your legs not being recovered fully for the race.

It will be interesting to see some other takes on it though. I am anything but a coach.

Coming from a beginner, so take this fwiw...no way would i bike up the Keene descent on Friday.  If you want the riding time where you have to work a little, i would bike the course backwards and say turn around near the out & back so you get that climb back into town rather than the Keene ascent.  Not nearly as taxing.

I'm following the Mike ricci beginner's program with heart rate.  I asked him and he said that unless I'm planning on going 10:30, I should stick with that and not the intermediate plan.  This is what he has for the last week of taper:

Monday: 35 min run
Tuesday: 1h bike, 1800yd swim
Wednesday: 30 min run
Thursday: 30 min bike, 1600yd swim
Friday: REST and stay off your feet!
Saturday: 15 min swim, 15 min bike (easy gears), 15 min jog zone 1
Sunday: RACE!

Each person is different but there is a big difference between what you're planning on doing and what a level III USAT coach says to do.  I agree with the previous people that say you're not going to get any benefit out of any big training's the last week.  It's all about recovery, short more intense workouts to stay loose, and just getting ready for the race.

I would say too much!

Ironfit plan calls for:
Mon Rest
Tue Swim, Run 45min
Wed Bike 45min Run 15min
Thu Swim 30 min easy. Bike 1 hour ZONE1!!
Fri 40 min ZONE1
Sat easy spin and run just to loosen up

Hi Everyone.  The BF & I have had to back out of IMLP and we're now left with a room at the Adirondack Inn, 7/22-7/29 ~ Literally spitting distance from all the action.  We are in the position now where if we can't find someone to take our reservation, we lose a hefty deposit.  If you or anyone you know needs a room for the week of the race, please PM me asap.

Thank you.

PS we've stayed at the Adirondack Inn several years now and I can vouch that it's clean, well-staffed and super convenient.

Pennstate - do you have an account there? I'm not a member...I mean, I could just sign up --- but if someone would post it for me, that'd be cool too (vs. having to set up a whole profile for one post)

That's seems much. You will not gain anything other than risk being tired before a very long day.
I would do something similar to the Mike Ricci's plan.

Short and with some speed and plenty of swimming. Hydrate and sleep plenty.
