I'm flying in on Thursday. Meeting Jennifer at the airport (we need to coordinate #'s) and heading over to the Edwards.

Meet the BT crew at the bar? Hang out with BT crew.

Friday- I'm signed up for the Water World Swim in the morning. Friday afternoon, I need to pick up my bike from Blazing Saddles. Friday afternoon Hubby flies in. We have plans for Friday night.

Saturday- packet pickup, dinner with my coach

Sunday- I would love to go down to transition with everyone. Also another first timer.

Can't wait to meet everyone! Is anyone bringing a floor pump to the hotel?

I get in Friday afternoon.

I would like to swim on Friday and bike the course on Saturday sometime.

My family and I have not made any firm plans yet for any activities or meals. My wife is considering running the Xterra Marin Headlands train run on Sat morning. We just have to figure out transportation to the event.

Jonas Grumby - 2009-06-09 12:46 PM I think by water temperature near 60, they really meant 53-56.  I think 60 is a little too optimistic.

I swam in aquatic park and out to the opening on Saturday and it was definitely in the 60s and not 50s.

I'm not doing Alcatraz, but though I would let you all know Swam the bay this weekend at Anchorman and the water was nice (for the bay).  As mentioned above,  I do believe the water was in the 60's.  I don't think I heard a single person complain about the water temp.  (No screeming on entry).

Good luck on your upcoming race!

Question for those of you who live in and or around SF.

We're going on a dinner cruise on Friday night. The invitation says- Cocktail attire. What is considered cocktail attire in SF for females? What I would normally wear in Texas probably won't work for a dinner cruise in the SF bay. I'm extremely cold natured too. Walking around in heels in SF before a triathlon isn't my idea of fun. Wearing heels anywhere isn't my idea of fun normally but....I'd just planned on bringing my running shoes (2 pair) flip flops and Keen sandals for the trip! LOL!

Now I've got to add Cocktail T-1 bag to the list!

Suggestions?

SAWEEET!!!  I'm near Sacramento, which is about 2 hours inland from SF, and I haven't swam in the bay this year yet.  I remember last year was around 56 degrees, and I just assumed that was fairly constant with the deep water and ocean currents.  I'm very happy if it's 60's.

I'm using aero helmet.  Even tho the course is more technical than aero, an aero helmet will still be a little faster.  Besides, I paid a lot of scratch for it, and I never get to wear it other than at races.

Cocktail dress in SF is usually simple, knee length(ish) and black  However, if you're doing a dinner cruise it's highly likely that the folks onboard are also from 'out of town' and the dress will probably be as diverse as the people.   If being cold is a worry - a pair of black slacks with a nice blouse would be fine.  Bring a sweater, or even a jacket because, yes, it can get cold on the water... or (because this is San Francisco) it might be warm.  Be prepared for either.  Even when going out, SF folks will layer it up.

It sucks to have to bring a big item like that, but I think I will.  I can slide it in my bike box...  So yes, I should be bringing one..  (pump)

Are you staying at the Edwards? If so you'll be very popular with that bike pump! We may have to buy you a round at the bar!

I'll be at the Edwards, with a full bike pump.  I'm driving up to San Fran, no reason not to bring supplies.  Heck, I bring that kind of stuff to every tri, you never know what might happen pre race (or race morning)

I'll be the tall stocky guy in the blue kit with the black Cannondale Slice tri bike.  Feel free to ask me to use the bike pump. Heck, you might even find a picture of me on my blog to know who I am.

Don't buy me a beer though, since those aren't the best pre race carbs.

What do you plan on doing with the camera during the swim?  Just holding it in your hand or what?  I was thinking about taking a camera for the swim, but I didn't want to hold it, or have around my wrist as I thrashed about wildly trying to get to shore.

The best I could come up with was something like a race belt with a carabeener on it so I could clip the camera on.  What's your plan?

Most of the waterproof disposable camera have a large rubber band/strap attatched to it.

Put your arm through it and have the camera up near your shoulder. I suggest trying it once swimming in aquatic park.

Hello,

Does anyone know when they will put up the signs for the bike course (where to go, etc.). I would like to have a look at the bike route on Friday, but don't really feel like bringing a map with me!

Take care

Can you take my picture during the swim portion? LOL! I'll be the girl on her back freaking out during the swim! Well hopefully not.

I'm also renting a road bike. Bringing my road helmet (aero is too hard to pack) and enjoying the course. Maybe I should take a camera on the run too. Hmmm...

Oh, there is supposed to be a grocery store within a block of the Edwards.

Maybe we should wear name tags in the hotel with our user names on them. I changed my screen name after the IMFL dinner. No one could pronounce my other name.

the fella from ST that did the race last year told me he put his camera inside his suit when he swam.   he has a DeSoto 2 piece (which is what i have) and he put it in the bibjohn before he jumped off and once in the water, it was easy to take in and out his suit.....that's my plan too.    gonna try it in Aquatic Park first though.

Hey all, I've been quiet and nervous for the last few months but I will be there and racing on Sunday!! I am staying at the Holiday inn in fisherman's wharf and leave today but won't arrive in time to meet you all for drinks, I will be floating around and planning to swim tomorrow morning and bike some of the course.

I had a dream last night I couldn't find baker beach and the sand steps and missed the overall time cutoff.  Funny I dream about the run and not the swim! I too would love to find some people at transition race morning to jump on the bus with.  5:15... OUCH!!!!

as for the camera, a friend did it last year and put it around her neck and tucked the camera down her wetsuit.  I will be testing idea tomorrow. Can't believe it is actually here!!

I have beeen in SF for 2 days.  I ran on WEd to crack out the air legs.  Felt alright.

My wife and I are going to go to Aquatic park tomorrow - Fri AM - We should be there around 9ish.  WE will be the couple with 2 boys in the sand, I am the freakishly tall one (6'8) with the cute 5'8 sandy blonde.

I may try to ride tomorrow AM, I have trouble sleeping past 5 am and may ride out around 6:30am.  I am not sure.  But will probably go to Sports Basement for their 6:30 course talk.  A friend told me it is very helpful.

Less than 60 hours to go!!! I cannot wait, even with the nice wind on the bay today
