Oh, that's too bad...Well you could workout in your apartment and do abs and pushups and stuff like that

That wasn't my question.

Aimeep - 2009-01-05 9:56 AM Sounds like everyone is doing well starting the new year. I had to go to the sports chiro/ART guy this morning--my hip flexor was hurting something awful and it turns out my hips had come off center and had to be realigned (which was why I was limping and having pain while running). Now I have no excuse not to go do my last 'long' run before Houston Marathon tomorrow and I'm just glad I can run again! And swim... I'm still determined to learn to love swimming.

Aimee, what causes this? I think I had the same thing happen, after getting a soreness sorta like a car hit me I started using a foam roller, I felt something adjust and now it not only feels better but my runs feel different. At first I thought it was a tight IT band, but the soreness was more in the joint area,my right allot more than the left, both sides for sure though.

I'm lucky that I have a really good chiro--he's an IM superstar and a coach as well, so I trust him alot. For me this time it turned out that my hips were out of adjustment--i.e. one was higher and more forward than the other--by about 2 inches. Part of that was because the muscles in my hip are too tight on one side and pull on the hip, leading to one being 'off.' Most of that is due to bad biomechanics and running form. Foam roller and massage are key to keeping everything loose and where it's supposed to be. I think it was my long run last weekend that did me in--I hopped in the car after my run, changed, and went to church and never stretched and my left hip tightened up and torqued itself. Bad idea. He did check for pelvic fractures (the pain woudl have been one that never went away) and torn muscles and both seemed to check out. I promised to use the roller and also stretch more. The foam roller loosens those tight muscles and helps to 'release' the pulling on your hip.

All you need for a run is a pair of sneakers and I am sure you travelled with sneakers.  No more excuses!

I hope Rick has gotten something in today! Perhaps asking at the front desk for a pair of shorts might work.

We were getting very close to page 2 on the list!! I hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Bob

(1) I posted this on Tri-talk but have not gotten much input intpo teh aero bar question: "I am adding these to my bike.  The LBS recomended the TranzX (JD-808) as the aerobar http://www.jdtranzx.com/product.php).  It seems much more up-angled than most of the aerobars I have seen.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this?  Is there a bar you would recommend instead?  I plan on having a Cateye Strada computer installed also.  Any thing good, bad or ugly I should know about with this one?"

(2) I ate feta cheese for day 6 in a row.

Interesting bar. Aluminum, so it should be fine, it's clip on, so no issues there. There are three issues to note for the bars, the first two are VERY important. 1) it needs to accommodate your reach (when your elbows are properly positioned on the pads, your hands should comfortably be able to grasp the bends), 2) The angle of the bend needs to suit your wrist (that's the problem with s-bends is that they make you flex your wrist so obtusely it's uncomfortable), and much less importantly, 3) their weight - they may be a bit heavier than other bars.

I plan on having a Cateye Strada computer installed also.  Any thing good, bad or ugly I should know about with this one?"

As long as it's got the features you want, cateye is great.

I ate feta cheese for day 6 in a row.

Err...congrats and why?!

Bars: weight is not an issue.  I am MOP, my bike is steel, the dura ace barend shifters will be wasted on me, but I guess Shimano does not make shifters in ultegra or 105.  I will have to bike and bars fit up once the shifters come in.

Computer: perfect, thanks

Feta: When Bob came to CT on Sunday he had a sandwich with feta and sent me a note about it.  I have been on a feta kick lately, not sure why.

I'm with Rick on those replies.  It does "seem" higher, but it also looks like it starts lower than on a traditional tri bike where the aero bars basically go straight out, then bend up.

This also looks like it gives you options to hold it low with your thumbs pointing forward, like the s-bend Rick mentioned.  Or a more comfortable, thumbs pointing up position.

No matter what, the key is to have the LBS clip them on and have you test it out there for comfort.  If you're not comfortable with it, it's no good.

Also remember to get plenty of practice moving your hands off of it and over to the shifter and brakes!

I think Rick and Bob are spot on with their advice. My thought with clip on aero bars are to make sure they fit well. When I used clip ons I had to get a much shorter stem to shorten the reach as I was all stretched out when in aero position. When fit correctly, the aero position should feel a lot like you are leaning on a counter top watching TV with your elbows and shoulders at about right angles.

Way to go with the feta!! How's the Feta/Gorgonzola brick work out?

didn't happen, wife was sick and I have been home all day trying to work and deal with the baby, etc. (I drove around in teh car for 2 hours so she'd sleep while I returned phone calls).  All I could manage was the feta.  You know what they say: if you miss a cheese brick just let it go.

I picked you up. I had fresh parm and cheddar on the lunch salad, bricked up with some fresh mozzarella salad as part of dinner. The healthy part.
