bigbadprosecutor - 2010-04-06 9:37 PM This is my first half and I'm more than a little nervous.  Does anyone know what the ride is like?  Hilly v. flat.  Additionally, I see where they have water bottle exchanges.  How does that work?

Welcome to the thread,  This race last year was my 1st HIM and I felt the same way you do, but honestly you have chosen a really good one.  My advice, just go out there and have fun and enjoy the accomplishment of completing a 70.3.

The bike ride is extremely flat, there is 1 bridge that crosses over some water but the view from up there is sweet and you forget that you just climbed up it.  PS- camera man for photos is at the top so try to look like your going Mach 3.  Maybe 1 other overpass other than that...its the wind that may cause you problems,  I was fine until around mile 40 when the wind started picking up on me and I felt like I was dragging a parachute.

Well like I said enjoy and hope to see you there,

You can swim any day/time you like in the lake.  Officially, you're not supposed to swim at the beach where our swim is taking place, but I assume that will not be the case that weekend.  Alternatively, There's an area where us local go to swim the has wood posts that a.  keep out any boat activity and b. help guide you in a straight line as you swim.  Here a link to where that area is:

and here's the actual race route:

Sorry, forgot to mention that.  The locals say it's 1/2 mile round trip, so 2 laps is 1 mile.

I think just about everyone will be taking a swim on Saturday so it should be pretty easy to join in with a group along the lake.

On another note, the wind has been wicked in south Louisiana the last couple of weeks. Should make for an interesting bike leg.

I can deal with wind. But as much as I hate long range forecast; I can't help but check it currently and it says RAIN next Sunday!! Usually wrong and it is 10 days away but still worries me a little, of course on the bright side it may not be as hot?

Last year we had a tailwind on the out leg and a head wind on inbound leg.  Not too good.  But, if we have to have wind, this kind of wind is what we want.  A south wind means the lake will be calm.  If the wind is from the north, then it drives waves across the lake and makes the south shore (our swim shore) very rough.  Last year the south wind made the lake like glass.  I swear is was calmer than the pool I practice in.

Agree, we need the wind from the south which calms the lake. The down side is a tailwind on the out and a headwind on the back.

thanks - I'll keep an eye on that weather forecast then.
Although...personally I think I'd rather brave waves (swimming is my strength and I grew up swimming in a wavy ocean   ) and have a tailwind for the back bit of the bikeUndecided

Doesn't really matter though I suppose - just makes a difference to how you psych yourself up!

I will take the calm water and wind for the ride!  (swimming is not my strength).  Any of the locals doing T-Gator this weekend as a warm-up?  I will be going and using it as my last full brick.
