Okay...so does anyone know of a correlation between weather patterns and sleeping patterns?  It has been very cold out with zero rain/snow for two days.  The past two nights I haven't been able to sleep at all.  I have been up every thirty minutes or so.  My fatigue increases dramatically with poor sleep and it's driving me nuts!! (not to mention my girlfriend)

I'd blame holiday stress. Family, travel, etc.

Go extra long on a run. Or mix up a brandy old fashioned...that may help, too.

Funny that you say that...I swore off alcohol during the week, but this may be an exception!

Went for a run today with the new "hard" orthodics.  About 30 minutes and some serious blisters on my arches...maybe should have worked in 15 minutes at a time!  The good thing is my legs felt pretty good with no shin/knee issues to really speak of.

Good morning everyone and Happy New Year!

Made it back from Atlanta and the Chic-fil-a bowl yesterday. Went for a 4 mile run-UGH! Too much "fun" and not enough sleep for a couple of days made it tough.  Scheduled for 12 mile run today and feel better after a good nights sleep. I'm getting old.

I'll be 29 tomorrow...and I'm feeling old. Atlanta sounds like a ton of fun though. I bet it was worth it! 12 mile run? What are you training for?

Happy birthday!

Training for half marathon on 1/10.  Today was last long training run before race. 9 miles easy then 3 miles at race pace (7:45/mile).  First big tri in 2010 will be a HIM in early May.  Have been more run focused over last 2-3 months to try to build solid base heading into HIM training.

Where is your half-mary?  (you probably already said in another post ) - Sounds like a good workout for the week before.  Have you done a lot of halfs? It is kind of my specialty which is why I am so nosey

Irunfit-"Time to brag again   Yesterday was the 3rd 5K of the series..in 7 degree weather!..and I took 2nd female again "

Good job! 7 degrees is cold.  My run today was 40 degrees with 15 mph north wind and I was dressed like the Michelin Man.  Just not that much cold weather in South Alabama. Cold running into the wind but felt like I could have run with shorts and a tshirt when the wind was behind me.

My half next weekend is in Mobile, AL. The "First Light" Marathon/Half.  This will be my third half but first since doing this one last year.  Ended up with shin splints in Feb. 09 and that is what got me looking at triathlons.  This year I have much higher weekly mileage (around 30) and more consistent training.  Ran 1:45:31 last year and would love to get low 1:40's or with alot of luck and good conditions possibly get under 1:40.  Have done an 8k (36:50) and 5k (20:51) within the last month to get a feel for running faster since almost all mileage over the past 3 months has been at an easy pace.  Have plugged my paces into the Mcmillan calculator and am projected around 1:40 +/-. Hoping that bigger aerobic base through running 30mpw and biking 75mpw will give me the extra endurance to maintain a good pace to the end.

Great job on another 5K, what kind of times are you doing in such cold weather?

29 is NOT old. Hope you had a happy birthday!

40 degrees is COLD for southern AL. However, that's a heatwave/spring thaw for northeast WI! Have a great race next weekend!

And yes, 7 degrees is ARCTIC COLD! Congrats on 2nd female TWICE! What are the courses like racing on all the snow and ice?

The race on New Year's Eve was at the Milwaukee State Fair grounds.  Parts of it were full of puddles and other parts were snowy.  No hills though - that one my time was an 18:56. Felt pretty good considering that I haven't done any speedwork lately

New Year's day race was in a residential/business park area with more hills and also some more snow and ice.  The cold weather really affected my breathing and I was tired from the race the day before.  My time was a 19:33 - still pretty happy with that.

29 is not old!!!

Good luck on the half.  Getting a couple under your belt and learning how to pace yourself is very helpful.

Hope everyone survived the holidays and ready to get back into training.I know some have been busy training and racing over the holidays. Lisa had some great races and Randy is getting ready for a 1/2 marathon. So how is everyone else doing with their training plans? Does everyone else have some kind of plan in place?I have found that having a written training plan in place helps a lot more when doing triathlons than when I was just doing running races. Also using the training logs help a lot too. So if you haven't been using the BT training logs, the first of the new year is a good time to start.Good luck with the new year everyone.

Training is going pretty well.  Between Jorge's winter cycling challenge, spin classes and Coach Troy DVDs, I am optimistic that this will be a good cycling year for me.  Am also trying to get 3 swims a week in, plus either a weight or pilates session every couple of days.

The nasty winter weather is making it REALLY difficult to get quality runs in.  It has been at or below zero here for the last four days and the high this week is only supposed to be around 11.  I have to give Lisa a LOT of credit for racing in 7 degree temps, I find that the older I get, the more the cold bothers me.  Maybe I need to follow Lenny's lead and get a dog that needs to be taken out a couple of times a day.  Somehow i can't see any of my cats wanting to get out in this crap.  My threshold this year is 20 degrees, any colder and it's the dreadmill.

Training has been going all right.  A few missed days due to the holidays of course.  I'm following a 36 week training plan for August 22 as my A race.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!  It was a quiet and relaxing one.  I came down with a sinus infection that has kept me up the last two nights and took today off from work to rest!  Obviously yesterday's workout was a wash and I'll probably skip my swim tonight in an attempt to clear this cold quickly.

Dude, you are awesome!  That must be an awesome feeling!  Was there any point at which you could see the leader?  I bet at that speed it is way hard to reel the other person in!

firstteeth - 2009-12-30 12:14 AM Hoping to get some sort of ok to start training again (at least modified) tomorrow or Thurs.  Just waiting on results of MRI on shoulder.  M.D. is thinking "impingement." It feels quite a bit better, just not "right".  Looking forward to and nervous about the restart of training all at the same timeTongue out.

Have a happy and safe New Year's!

Did you ever get the results of that MRI???  How's the shoulder feel?

For the first race the lead male won in a little over 15 minutes! So except for lining up ..never saw him. The lead female was about 30 seconds ahead in both races so I did see them but was already pushing. I actually kept the lead male in sight for most of the 2nd race because everyone's times were slower.  And yes it is an awesome feeling.  One more race in the series and I am hoping to place in top 3 overall for the Championship!

Not going to lie...did a moderate amount of training last week, but I'm back to it.  Plus, my husband bought me a bike for Christmas!!!  It's very beginner, but it's getting tuned up as I write.  It's a little cold, but I'm really hoping to do my 75 min ride this Saturday on an actual bike and not a stationary one at the gym!

NICE!  What did you end up getting for a bike?  I can't wait to get outside also.  6 inches of new snow last weekend kind of put a damper on that one.

He got me a Vilano bike, not very well regarded and actually gets totally dissed on many of the bike forums that I've looked at.  But, my husband said he wasn't going to spend a lot on a bike if I'm not sure I'll stick with it after the race.  I have to agree.  Getting a professional tune-up/adjustment.  We went out on Saturday (big mistake, incredibly cold and windy) and I thought it was pretty great.  I think it's perfect for a beginner like me!!
