tjfry - 2010-07-06 9:03 PM So here is my 2 minutes of fame (woo hoo!), and how I got that visor. For those curious, I'm swimming right at the swim finish in the waterway.

I can't believe the race is still open!

I remember where Mike Riley wrote that it was 600+ in the first ten minutes..

I'm thinking there was a mad rush up to around 1700-1800 with Texans and maybe some of the other southern states where they can train through the winter months.  Then it leveled off and is just slowing churning along.   Plus we don't know where they are capping it at 2500??   3000?    I wonder what the DNS rate is for the earlier IM's as opposed to the ones later in the year.

@ tommy... Mike Riley posted on ST that he would be there

I will have to slip him the note card again on how to pronounce my last name. He is 1 for 2 so far.

I just saw that there was an Ironman Texas.  I got quite excited, but then. . . . $600.00 plus processing fees? ? ?     You gotta be kidding me! ! !

Hmmmm. . .   Will I be spending 1000 bones on a IM race in the near future.  This is getting REDICULOUS! ! !

The races were all $550 this year.  Were you expecting the races to be cheaper for 2011?  I'm not sure why IMTX 2011 is $25 more expensive than IMSG 2011 or IMCdA 2011 though.

Will you have jockstraps that can give this to you while you're nearing the end of the run course? I can easily get it to you before next May.

Not sure about the jockstrap situation, but bring it with you just in case.

About the race slots still being available, I think it is because many are waiting to see what the course is going to be like (i.e.: wave start vs. mass start), bike course being challenging or not, etc. At least, I know a few folks that are waiting on those facts.
During March, a group from Dallas (about ten or twelve) is traveling to The Woodlands to do the full bike course, details to be posted in the future. Anyone is welcome to tag along, the bigger the group, the safer it is going to be. Pace will be easy/moderate. It's going to be mostly about knowing the course to set a race strategy.
