My name is Thomas and I am a triathlete from Stockholm, Sweden. I am trying to get a entry to the 2011 Ironman Arizona but I just found out that it's sold out. I just found Your website and just wonder if You or Your members have been in this situation and if You have any idea of how to get a entry? I am just taking a chance in contacting You, many thanks for Your help! Thomas [email protected]

Good weekend for me! 5 mile run, 2 mile swim on Friday, 4 hour ride 4 mile brick on Sat., and 10 mile run and 2600yd swim on Sun. For the first time I feel like I can do this distance. A rest week with minimal workouts does the mind and body good!! 3 months of solid workouts left. Hope training is going well for everyone.

Jim, I hear you! I'm excited as well, but I'm sure there will be more heat and humidity to come. Enjoy the reprieve!

July Totals
Swim 8hr 47 min
Run 17 hrs
Bike 24 hrs...

Spectated at lake Placid & swam in lovely Mirror Lake & rode  the Bike Course...thinking the swim in AZ will be much chillier & the ride hopefully flatter!!Also humbling & realising I have a lot more work to do!!!

Feels good to be getting back to my normal midweek 2 a day workouts. A bit harder with the kids still on break, but once September gets here, I'll be back in the pool as well.Had a nice hour long ride on the trainer earlier today, then a brisk 10.5 miles this evening where I feel like my speed is coming back after my break after CdA. I have a feeling that 99% of my bike training will be done on the trainer this time around...and that makes me very happy. (I'm not a big fan of long rides outside.)

Holly Shamolly! Some of your July totals are making me feel insecure!  Tapering for a HIM and a recovery week post-HIM kept my totals low for July.  Thinking maybe I shouldn't have tapered for it (my first HIM).  Lots of work to do!

What's on tap for the weekend folks? I have a 70 mile ride tomorrow and a 45 min OWS and a 13 mile run on Sunday. The swim and the run distances are known territory but I'm newer to cycling so I'm starting to get into the realm of "longest ride ever" each weekend as the volume builds. Eeek! Smile

calimavs - I hope your ride went well.  It's always exciting when you start to reach unfamiliar distances!

As for me - knocked out my typical brick on sat am, flew to ft. lauderdale sat afternoon, and knocked out me "long" run on a treadmill at the hotel gym.  I definitely plan to hit the ocean for some OWS sessions.

Additionally, I was insanely busy with work last week, so hopefully I can stick to my planned training this week.

My first race of the season is on Saturday.  It's only an Olympic, but I am excited to see where I am at fitness wise compared to previous years.

I'm with you, cali--Did 65 miles on Saturday and bonked hard. Still got out for a 13+ mile run yesterday and was only slightly slower as a result. Still trying to figure out this cycling business and nail down my nutrition. Fatigue on the bike really sneaks up on me. This makes me look back longingly at marathon training. :/

I had to take all of last week off with a knot the size of a marble in my calf.  I'm pretty sure I got it from hill repeats on my roadie that had the seat adjusted 1" higher than it was supposed to be.  Did everyone I could to get rid of it.  After about a week of massage, electroshock, ART, and the Stick it appears to be gone.  Luckily it was my 'easy' week so its not a big loss in my training.

I did get some OWS done and while I'm faster, I definately need to do swim in a lake at least once a week.

Someone mentioned cycling creeping up on them. I learned a great lesson about that in Boulder at the 70.3.   I went waaay to hard on the bike, but at the time it didn't feel like it. I didn't bother looking at heartrate because I was having so much fun. I paid beginning around mile 8 of the run. My bike time was great (for me) though.

Other than that, back to normal training volumes this week.  How's everyone's motivation doing?

Starting to get a little tired with my training. Every weekend road is my "longest ride ever" now. Did 72 miles last weekend followed by a 4 mile run and felt good. Have an oly on Sat. then a 13 mile run on Sunday. I'm finding the weekday things to be easy now, but the weekends are starting to get tough. Need to push thru the next 2 1/2 months and I'll be ok. Excited to have an OWS this weekend...the pool is getting b-o-r-i-n-g!!!!

50+ mile bike ride tomorrow after work, 2.4 mile open water swim on Saturday in Madison, 100+ mile bike ride on Sunday (followed by a short brick run tbd distance) and did a 13 mile run last night.  Today is a day of rest.

Visiting the In-laws for the weekend.  They live on a lake in Arkansas.  Love walking out the back door and diving off the deck for 6am OWS's.  Plenty of trail running this weekend but very little biking.  Really looking forward to those swims instead of following the black line!

Training has been going good.  Starting to feel good about things.  Keeping up with plan and trusting in it that I will have a good first IM.  Every week feeling stronger and better prepared.  Plan on doing an Olympic distance in Sept. and an open water swim event in October, other than that just saying focused on the race.

Hello all.  Just found this thread - it's fun to read about everyone's ramping excitement for the big race.

I've seen a couple other people following Fink's Ironfit program.  Does anyone else feel like the bike volume is a little bit low?  Seems like 6-7 hours/week at this stage is a little low, though I know it increases slowly for the next couple months.

I'm also worried about the bike because my rides are all in hilly terrain, so I don't feel like I have a good handle on what my race pace will be.

Anyway, back to work!

So, I finished my first race of the season - a small, local Olympic distance.  I took 2nd in AG and 9th OA - my first "podium" finish. While am happy with the 2nd AG finish, I am more impressed with my 10k run off of the bike - 7:08/mile.  Now, I know that is not impressive for many on this site, but I am NOT a runner!

Otherwise, I am back in NY from my business trip to FL and back to my training routine. I am PUMPED for my HIM next month.

In a response to the Don Fink plan - I am using the plan, and obviously happy with my results.  My bike has been my strong suit since starting this thing.  The only supplementing I do for the bike is ride a much harder effort on my Saturday bike.  I feel I can get away with this because my cycling base is relatively strong.  You could always add more to the easy Sunday bike if you were looking for more.
