Hey Tom glad to see you're still with us.  I thought we lost you.  I haven't seen a post for a while from you.  I hope the training is going pretty good.  With a HIM coming up in August, I doubt your going to want to be to much slacking.

I went ahead and put the HIM training plan in my workout planner.  Looking at it I am pretty sure I am close to doing something close to that on a regular basis already but now I'll know for sure.  Or I will in about 20 weeks anyway.

I am thinking about doing one of the HIM training plans on the site.  I don't have any races in mind but I want to see how close I am to that training zone already.  I kind of feel like I am close but not really sure.  As I said before, I am not really looking for a HIM this coming season because I want to drag my training and racing along slowly so I don't get bored fast.  I would like to keep my triathlon career as long as I can stay interested.  I feel like if I rush into racing longer distances I might burn out sooner.

Am I the only who thinks about this in this way?

I'd say that is pretty much how I look at it too. Adam (BlindDave) and I will be going up a distance each year, see which one we enjoyed the most and probably conscentrate on getting as good as we can at the distance.

I have seen that video before.

I think I like your other avatar better.  You have a very nice smile.

Do you ride "another" bike besides the one with pedals?

I have a Honda VTX 1300.  Talk about going fast and feeling the wind in your hair :-)  I've been riding motorcycles for about 10 years, and did a solo trip to Mississippi last summer.  It's parked for the winter, so I'm going through a bit of withdrawal.

How about you, any hobbies?

Oh, there's a pic of my mc on my profile, if you're interested.   I should probably sell it and buy tri gear, huh?

Week 1 of training is complete! 19 to go!

My buddy started a training blog - there are four of us doing IMTX. Pay us a visit if you feel inclined!
http://whoisimtx.wordpress.com/

I bought a new camera so hopefully I'll be documenting a lot more of the training as we go along.

No real hobbies other than triathlon and running.  I do play drums but only for our church.  I used to duck and goose hunt but haven't done any for 2 seasons.  I miss it sometimes but I was the only one who ate the meat so I got tired of preparing it and cooking it for me alone.

That's a nice mc.  I am not a rider but I know it would be pretty fun to ride.  As far as selling it for tri gear..........oh yes.......most definitely sell it!  JK

Quick bit of back story:
Back in September, whilst cycling, a car coming the other way decided to turn right directly into my path (being in the UK we drive on the left). Since I'm naturally paranoid that car drivers think I'm invisible I was half expecting it to happen and managed not to slam straight into the side of the car. Unfortunately it was too close to avoid completely and I hit the back of the car at about a 45° angle.
The bike was trashed (both wheels damaged beyond repair and front forks bend) and I fractured a bone in my hand. The driver admitted full liability

Now onto the point of today's post.
Just got a letter from my insurance people to say that although I have to go for another x-ray to my hand (medical examiner can feel something clicking when he moved it and isn't convinced that it has healed yet!) and final payout can not be made until results come back, they are going to see about getting an interm payment to me which at worse will cover repairing the old bike and at best cover the cost of a new one!

Hopefully I'll finally be able to get back on my bike after  a 4 month absence!

That's a scary story.  I knew a guy once who was on his bike and went through the back window of a car that was stopped in front of him.  That accident was his fault though.  Luckily, other than a bunch of stitches, he was fine.

I hope your recovery continues and that you are able to replace your bike soon.  What bike/s are you looking at?

Hey everyone! Hope your Monday is going great! It's a great day to get the week started off right!

Today is the first day of classes for me. My Monday/Wednesday's are pretty decent with only an 8:00am and a 6:30pm. I was able to get a 45 min ride OUTSIDE this afternoon. BRR was it cold! 29* (felt like 19*). Only ~12 miles in, but there was a stiff 15mph wind on the way back in.

My clothing included the following:
LG windproof shoecovers
Nike cycling shoes w/ mesh duct taped
1 pair of wool cycling socks
1 pair of wool socks from walmart (like hiking socks)
Leg warmers
Nike compression shorts
Bibknickers
Windproof Bibtights
LS underarmor coldgear top
Nike Wind/Rain jacket
Hammer Nutrition Thermal Jacket
Balaclava
Descente Wombat Glove

Overall I was nice and warm. Hands and feet could have used another layer, but feet had no more room in shoes, might try my thermal shoe covers next time. I couldn't get my shoes to clip in for the first 10 minutes for some reason, I think I might have packed snow into the cleats walking down to the road.

What are you folks up to!?

Just wrapped up a nice swim. 3400 meters, 73 minutes. Now I'm back in the office for the night wrapping up a couple projects. The lady is doing girl's night at our house tonight (I think a new season of the Bachelor is starting?) so I'm happy to stay out of her hair.

Today was supposed to be a rest day but doing a swim today saves me from a double-day later in the week which is totally worth it. I'm giving my legs a break at least...they just dangle behind me in the pool.

Tomorrow I'm going with some tri buddies to see "Hood to Coast" (trailer
http://www.hoodtocoastmovie.com/) ...which means I'll have to do a morning workout...which means I'll be in a pissy mood for a few hours, then subsequently feel really good about myself having completed my day's physical activity by 7:30am.

I had a great day today.  I did a 1500m swim at 5am this morning.  I really like swimming, and since I'm so new to this sport, I can see gains every time I get in the pool.  After work, I ran/walked 3 miles.  I'm running about 18 min all together.  I don't know if this means anything, but for the first time I was able to really relax my upper body while running.  That part felt good.  I'm planning on adding a couple minutes to the running portion next week.  Then I did my 60 min strength training/body pump class.  That started ok, but I really ran out of gas by the end.  I should have snacked after work, but I'm trying to keep my food intake under control.

Tomorrow is just a swim day.  Good way to recover after running and strength training.

Good night all!

P.S.   I think I'm in love.  Check out this bike.  I can hear it calling my name.

I swam yesterday.  I was initially going to hold off for a few more days, but I just felt I needed it for mental purposes!  No immediate discomfort felt with the shoulders, yay!  I was very focused on my shoulder rotation throughout my swim, especially for my left shoulder.  In fact, the first few laps I was so focused on my shoulder that I forgot to stick my head above the water to breathe in!    But then I got into a rhythm and was breathing normally.  I haven't decided if I will swim again tomorrow, or wait off for two days of rest in between.

Killer bike - I have a Felt roadie. I love the Felt line...maybe someday I'll be lucky enough to own a sexy tri bike and be able to post some bike porn of my own.

For now, I just don't want two bikes in my garage and if I only have one, I'd rather have a roadie.

If your in this game long enough, you WILL accumulate a few bikes.  i have a cross bike, a tri bike and a mountain bike (hardtail).  Iused to have a cheap dual suspension too but I gave it to my uncle.  I found I have as many trainers for running too!   BUT I am making do with the first wetsuit I have ever bought wich is now 2 sizes too big!

Well my race is in 12 days.  I won't be winning any AG with this one but at least I think I will be able to stay on my feet for the XC ski!  What a workout!  WWent for 2 miles around the track yesterday.     Today is weight lifting and trainer ride.

I hired a run coach and we are doing a gait analysis on Thursday AM.  I am excited.  Hopefully I can put the past injuries behind me and look forward to Puerto Rico 70.3 in March of 2012

Happy training everyone!

I have 2 bike but one of them doesn't count.  I have a Cannondale CAAD 9-6 roadie that is my race bike and I have a Murray "mountain" bike that is a serious lead sled.  My brother gave it to me several years ago.  It was what I started riding in August of 2009 but I didn't have to use it long before I got the Cannondale.

I have my Trek 7.5fx hybrid, and a QR Tequilo (unassembled in a box...) I bought a size small Tequilo from a local BTer after riding it a few times, then later decided it was slightly too big.  There was a size XS being sold on bonktown so I then bought the XS, and sold off the size small.  So now I've got a tri bike, but it needs to be assembled.  Honestly now I am thinking I might just sell off this bike as well (this truly does sound ridiculous even to me!), partially because I feel a bit lazy to go through the process of taking it to the bike store to get it ready (if I do this I would probably get a fit as well), and partially because I am kind of at the point where (if I am able to be bike/run ready) I will probably stick to sprints this year and I'm thinking I may just stick with my hybrid again... and perhaps attempt a tri bike purchase at the end of this year at a bike store when the closeouts on 2011 bikes are happening... or something.

At the moment the only bike I have is a 1982 Raleigh Rapide 12 speed which is the previously mentioned dead bike.

if I only have one, I'd rather have a roadie.

I've been going back and forth over this point personally and have decided that a tri bike may be better for me as I never ride with other people, only race tri's and if I really find I need a roadie I can get the Rapide back on the road for a relatively small amount of cash

Hi Everyone... I signed up a couple of weeks ago, but I've been really busy as the year has gotten started. I'm hoping to find the time to participate more.

I was sick through the holidays and over the last couple of weeks and I'm just getting back into training.

QOTD: What steeds do you have in your stable? Road? Tri? MTB? Beach cruiser?

I bought a 2009 Felt S32 back in the late fall because it as on sale. I haven't gotten to ride it enough outside, and with the 2 feet of snow we got in CT today, I think it'll be awhile longer.

I got a set of rollers for Christmas and I've started using them. This morning was my second roller workout and I haven't killed myself yet Smile.

I can't wait for spring.....

I got a roadie for my first bike at the suggestion of my LBS and I think his rationale was correct but I wish I had went with the Tri bike first.  His thinking was that a roadie would be better for my first bike since a Tri was much more specialized, more expensive and less adaptive to group riding scenarios.  He also thought that if I didn't like Tri's it might be a little harder to get rid of the bike.  I was pretty sure I would like triathlon but thought it wise to listen to the guy who has probably seen this scenario play out a few times.  In my case he was wrong but he had to go with the odds so no harm.....But I really wish I had a Tri bike now.

Well I had a total b!itch of a day yesterday. By 6:00 I was so fed up with lots of crap, I had to get out of the office for a workout to release some aggression.

I ended up doing my long run (90 minutes) of the the week. I did my long run for last week on Sunday. It probably wasn't smart to do them so close together but my legs seem to be handling it fine. Today I've got a swim scheduled. The plan calls for some pretty intense sets - not sure if I'm ready for it so I may modify:

WU: 4 x 50
Main: 2 x 1000 - 1 is RPE 4, 2 is RPE 6
Main: 10 x 100 - descend 1-5, and 6-10
CD: 250 easy

PS - I posted a movie review to the blog of "Hood to Coast", if you're interested.
