Debbie - 2011-04-04 10:57 PM  Are you camping?

Naw, i got a hotel room fri-sun night, but I'll be there early in the day that Friday, so I'll probably venture around the camp site to waste some time.  Maybe I'll see some of you guys there

Woo Hoo!!! 82 and Sunny here and it's barely Noon. Did a 5K race this morn, then took the P2 out for an hour and a half ride on the River Trail.Last week was kind of a wash due to a stupid injury. I was getting my Deer Plot ready (in flip-flops...all I wear) and one of the Twins was cryin, so I ran in to check on them and I took a chunk out of the tip of my toe with the Storm Door. All better now.I'm attempting to go sockless this season. Got me some Zoots and Pearl Izumi Sockless Tri shoes and I am VERY pleased. I thought it wld be more of an issue, but they are great!

Hope the weather is turning nice for the rest of ya'll... I think we hit 90 degrees Friday (where did Spring go?!) and it was in the 80s for the rest of the weekend (and in the 60s by the time I decided to run last night). Pretty much perfect training weather!

Keep on keepin' on! Cool

We had a beautiful day on Sunday....mid 80's and sunny. I got out and ran 8 miles and the warm weather felt so good. Today it's back to the 50's, windy and cold. I think I even heard snow flurries for this week. Seriously? Keep up the great work everyone.

Well, LoneStar 70.3 turned into 24.7 for me, when I took a hard crash at the north end of the San Luis Pass. So it looks like Kansas will be my first Half this season after all, going into my IMFL training... I hate to sit around doing nothing for a week! But I look forward to seeing you all there!

Similar forecast here.  I was planning on meeting up with a small group to ride and run the course for my May oly tri.  But not worth the trip if it's that cold and rainy (snowy), especially spending $4/gallon gas to get there.

First, thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. The P2 is currently residing at my great bike shop, Austin Tricyclist. The only obvious damage is the right aero bar, where the rubber sleeve on the shifter handle definitely looks like it scraped the road. It was also twisted to the left. But i asked them to really check over the frame. Don't know if i went over the bike or the bike went over me? Other casualties include Brand new Rudy Project helmet which saved my head and is now retired; brand new SMX Optics sunglasses which judging by the scratches on the right lens, saved my eyes, also now retired; brand new Pearl gloves shredded at the knuckle; and a lost insulated bottle. 8 or so stitches in the upper lip and some bruises. Clean cat scan and xrays but some dizziness - slight concussion. So everything will heal or is replaceable, but my IMFL training (and Kansas) is put off for a week.

OMG TriplebyPat. I hope you are okay. It sounds like you came out pretty lucky with only a few stitches. I am so sorry to hear about that. Take care of yourself so you can get back to training.

Thanks, all. Yeah really lucky overall, I think. A few stitches and a bit of stiffness, but everything can be fixed... and already impatient about getting back into it, even tho docs and coaches all say to wait a week minimum.

Hope everybody else's training is going well. I promise to not wear the bullseye on my jersey in Kansas. Got my IMKS registration done today, so I am officially a participant now. Looking forward to meeting all of you in Lawrence!

By the way, I know it is REALLY late in the game, but does anybody have any suggestions about what to ask when I call to see if there are any camp sites left? This sounds like a pretty good option.

Thanks,

So cool !! Got a utility site near the finish - - good thing, so I won't have to walk to far after I am done! Getting excited, now 8 weeks out!

Anyone doing any events this weekend? I got a Half Marathon in Jonesboro, AR on Sat. I think it's like my 9th event of the year(running wise). Some have been short 5Ks, but this will be my 3rd Half. Nice to get a workout out of the way early on a Sat or Sun morn. The real test comes April 30 and May 1st. Doing a Du that Sat Afternoon, then a Tri Sprint the next morn.

I'm doing a Sprint Tri this Sunday and then I've got a Half Marathon on April 30. After that it will be Kansas. I'm starting to get nervous about Kansas too. I really didn't think the nerves would come this early but they have arrived. Anyone else getting anxious or is it just me?

I'm honestly a tad concerned about the swim.  I could always swim (as in not to drown), but last year I started taking some lessons and had huge improvements.  It's just not clicking back into the groove this year and I seem a bit behind.  My Sprint on May 1st is an 880 yard swim.  Maybe I'm just paranoid, and after May 1st I feel better.  I think regardless I'm gonna do another month of lessons, just to tweak some things.  I don't know what the deal is.  It seems I just can't get my breathing back to where it was and as relaxed as I was last year.

Pitbullzz, we would make an awesome relay because swimming is the only thing I'm good at. Taking lessons is an awesome idea and once you become comfortable with your breathing and get that down everything else should fall into place. I'll swim for you if you bike for me. I'm actually looking forward to doing this Sprint Tri on Sunday. Even though it's a Sprint it will give me some sort of idea on my speed for each discipline and what I need to work at. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I did my first events last year.  I learned A LOT just from those couple.  Transition info, diet, etc.  It was a great learning expierance.

Oz Marathon in Olathe this Saturday.  Doing well at this race will make me feel better about Kansas 70.3

Good luck at OZ Marathon tomorrow, REECEALAN!  I hope the wind dies down for you after today's 50+ mph gusts.  Oh, how I loath the incessant Kansas wind sometimes.  Today was just unbearable.  Like a 24 hr thunderstorm without the heavy rain and lightening. Anyway, it will be a bit chilly at the OZ start tomorrow, but should be perfect by the 13.1 marker.

Anyone doing the Wichita half marathon on May 1?  I've heard there is a group of IMKS folks planning to ride 25 miles prior to the race start.  Sounds like a great tuneup for June 12.

I was volunteering at the Andover tri - I was a lap counter on the run (my boyfriend ended up winning that race, I'm so proud of him!). I did the St Pats 10K in Manhattan. And Matt Morrow is my coach!
Small world!

I'm gonna beat that Matt Morrow one of these days.  He's a stud. Didn't know he coached. Is he signed up for IMKS? Congrats to your boyfriend for winning Andover.  He's a stud, too.

Did my first sprint tri of the season on Sunday. It was 48 outside so leaving the pool with a wet body into that cold air was not fun. I definitely need to work on my biking and on my transitions but I was happy with my swim and run. A couple big guys sized me up and decided to jump in line in front of me before the swim. Probably shouldn't have done that since 1. it made me really mad....and 2. I passed them plus 6 others. Glad I got one tri done before Kansas. I don't know how the weather is with you all but today it's cold and storming. Another day on the treadmill. (Dislike) So sick of it. My neighbor did the New Orleans HIM on Sunday and they canceled the swim because of wind....made it a duathlon. Lets pray for some good weather in Kansas. Hope everyone's training is going well.

GREAT JOB!Yeah, you're gonna get that. There are always gonna be those guys that have no chance of even doing well in the race and act like that. I remember my first Tri. A swim clinic I went to told us to start near the back if u don't think you're not that good of a swimmer. I just didn't wanna get in peoples way. These guys all pushed up to the front and even before the first marker, they were floating on their back and this was just a 500 yard swim. And they were all over the place. It really messed my swim up, because I was sighting pretty well and they kept zig zagging in front of me. I was way too passive. I am by FAR a good swimmer, but I saw I wasn't the worst. Ha. Next race, I'll still start towards the back, but I won't be stopping my strokes to let people keep zig zagging in front of me, I'm just gonna go over the top of them.I bet u picked up a bunch of ideas how to improve ur transitions. So glad u got to get a practice run out of the way. Now you'll be more relaxed come Kansas and know what to expect.

Thanks for the encouragement pitbullzz. Ya, it was great to get one out of the way. I think I felt more pressure at this one than I will at Kansas. I will be scared to death at Kansas, but I knew a lot of people at this one and you just want to be fast with a sprint. Kansas I just want to have fun and finish it since I've never done one before. I have no time to compare it too either which is sort of nice. Ya, everyone told me in my Masters Swim Club that I should've put my time faster. A guy slower than me put a faster time and didn't have any trouble up front. I will do that next time. Do you have anymore events coming up before Kansas. Next weekend is my Half Marathon....a little nervous I gotta tell ya. It will give me an idea of my speed though.

Exactly. Yeah I'm just gonna have fun with Kansas as well. I'm doing the half in Branson in Sept and I wanna see how much I can approve. I got an event pretty much every weekend, but some r small. My "races" tab has them all listed, but I think just a Du and a Sprint before June, the rest r just pretty much running events.
