Ok, I haven't seen a closed sign, and I know the Badgers suck, and I like to drink beer.  Can I slide in here too???

tricrazy - 2011-04-09 1:02 PM My shoulders, upper arms, and neck were taking the brunt of it.

Not seeing old vs. new fit, the upper arms being sore might be from being too spread out on the bike.  Your forearms and biceps should be at a 90 degree angle when in aero.

Shoulder might be from the same or just like the neck takes time to get used to aero.

Neck shouldn't have much to do with fit.  It just takes time to get used to riding aero and trying to look forward while your torso is basically pointing towards the ground.

Morning all, hope everyone has a great weekend in store.

You know what would be a nice feature?  the ability to enter the thread at the last post you've read.  At the pace this group moves, being able to pick up where you left off would be sweet.

no kidding! this is a chatty group....and a big one!

Yeah when we start new sessions the posting tends to go crazy.  Posting will slow down (slightly) and some new people always drop off.   We tend to pick up 3-4 new people each session that stick.  LOL one of these years we won't be able to take anyone new because there will be so many "regulars"

...the less I'm able to train, the chattier I am, so not sure if that's an asset or a liability

you're in Arlington, right? Can you tell me anything about the wetsuit selection at Conte's? I realize I can call, too, but while I'm online, figured I'd ask.... need a new wetsuit (long story), and am looking at blueseventy & rocket science...

thx!

I don't know much about anything except when it comes to swimming, but I was always told that you shouldn't have aches like that with proper fit...

Since you're in Charlotte, and I'm visiting my mom soon, you have any recs for good places to ride in and around Charlotte with minimal risk of death by car? The closer to SE Charlotte (Providence/Sardis) the better, and the flatter the happier my ortho will be... I just have a road bike, so needs to be paved...

thanks!

So, I'm back from my 50K relay.  The good news is our team took first in the over the hill category!!  We took second last year so we're stepping up.....mainly due to my fabulous ability to pick a lightening fast team.  Even my injured athlete kicked butt!  Our prize a case of beer!  Only in WI.

After doing two loops of a very hilly course, I couldn't imagine doing 3 more for the 50K or God Forbid 8 more for the 100K.  The lead male was so smooth.  I saw him at the 50K mark and couldn't believe it.  He looked like he was "jogging".

Linda--I ran with a girl for a smidge who decided to do the 50K when she was locked out of Boston.  She then proceeded to requalify for next year on a training run.

Sam--doing a 50K is a totally different beast.  I give you credit for committing to it....like how I slipped that in?

tricrazy - 2011-04-09 9:49 AM Oaky, so I bought a tri bike last winter when I was pregnant with my youngest.  I bought it on ebay kinda just hoping the size would work.  Stupid idea I know.  Well, after my baby was born I took it to my usual store, had them fit it, and was off.  Well, I have hated riding this thing.  Everything hurts when I am on it.  I was ready to just sell it with literally less than 100 miles on it until a friend suggested a different fitter.  I figured it was worth a shot so today I got it fitted again.  I haven't had a chance to really get out on it yet but it already felt sooooo much better.  Here's hoping it works.

Rachel, sounds like you are on the right path!  If I might suggest to just start out with shorter rides and then build up the distance?  Maybe even 30-45 minutes initially.  I recall finally getting used to my road bike (and riding more than 2 hours at a time pretty comfortably) and the first time after being fitted with clip-on aerobars, starting to feel achy after an hour or so.  Being quite ambitious at the time, I was an hour away from my house and had to stay upright for the hour ride home!  It was actually a very good fit, but it was a new position that engaged my (weak) core differently and I think I compensated by using placing more weight on my forearms/shoulders/upper body.  And as I got accustomed to the new position, I could slowly add distance to my rides without that upper body fatigue.

Good luck!

Congrats on the team win, Suzy!  And great job getting your loop done with a negative split, to boot!

Badgers do NOT suck.  My grandpa was a Badger!

Thanks to everyone's advice last week re: the ice bath!

Today, I did my last real hard-ish run before Boston, a 10.5 mile pace type run and even though my legs felt quite fine after my run, I decided to do the ice bath again, as this weeks' workouts went very well even after running 23.5 miles last Sunday.

So, I filled the tub with cold water, got in while it was filling, with my fleece hoody on and sipping on hot tea....slowly added ice as it filled and was able to stay in the tub for a full 10 minutes!!!!  Voila, my legs feel super amazing and ready for Patriot's day!!!

(Kyla-if I can do it, I know you can do it!!!)

Man, did that 5k yesterday and my hips are super super tight.  I normally do a set of stretches where I am on my back with one knee bent and the other straight.  I hold a rope around the straight leg and lift up.  I've been getting much closer to 90 degrees lately  but this morning after the race I can't even get to 45 degrees.

I do get masages and try to stretch every day, any one else have issues of tightening up really quick?

is this a happy ending massage?  and is it peter thats tightening up really quick.   if so, no worries...

I'm not sure if I'm alarmed or encouraged by the fact that your 1st sentence didn't faze me....

Weird, I just called them, and they said they don't carry Rocket Science & never heard of them, even though they're listed on the RocketScience website. I talked to some folks from Bonzai at the multi-sport expo - seemed very nice, and they haven't rented blueseventy before, but apparently will start - I had a bout of SIPE in my last race, so want to rent before I buy again so that if it turns out that I really can't swim in cold water anymore, don't want to have wasted big $$ on a pricey suit I won't need (and if it does work, then I know what to look to buy used!). I'm focused on something with a low neckline, so that narrows my choices I think to blueseventy & rocket science, unless someone else has recs for others....??

thx

Will post bio.
Caution actual triathlon Question: How do you train for an Ironman and not continually lose weight even when eating a good balanced diet.  I don't have this issue but a young lady I know does. She's about 8 weeks into training for IMLP and is losing weight she really can't afford to. Certainly not this early in training.

good luck on all counts. I had a bad ankle sprain in early january, was back into building my run back up & was up to 3.5 miles (I suck as a runner), and then tore a muscle in my hip almost 4 weeks ago. I have ice packs on so many lower body parts that the bath sounds like a good idea.

good luck w/ your rehabbing - smart to take it slow. no advice that would be worth anything on your plan - i have to figure out how to get ready for my 1st oly race in 5 weeks....
