Master 1346 Gold Coast | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! Sweeeet - I'm an overachiever! I also estimate I'm going to be running about 50k as part of the race this weekend so I guess I may have to re-evaluate my goals on Monday and increase my goal distance a little. Now, if only I was a swimming overachiever like Yanti.....sigh..... Maybe a swimming challenge next month...? If I am being held accountable then I will definitely swim more than othwerwise and I need a bit of a kick in the right direction. |

TriAya - 2011-08-12 2:44 AM cottoneyes - 2011-08-11 1:01 PM TriAya - 2011-08-11 1:05 AM Now about this swim--crazy how it's all coming together and yet still takes so much mind-boggling planning in so many aspects so far in advance! It's a 40K (as crow flies) swim between the neighboring island and this one, in one of Indonesia's major straits. It's notorious, to say the least, and thought to be unswimmable. Except for a handful of really experienced captains/pilots who navigate it and a couple of swimmers who have swum parts of it. So I'm going to do it. Why not? I'll raise money for Orphans for Oceans or something like that, too. Nothing sounds crazy about it, much closer to home and wouldn't be as cold as the English Channel, (I know I haven't given the notorious comment and unswimmable bit due respect) so I think you are much more sane than the 100s that attempt an English Channel crossing each year. Sounds like a good swim No one though the mile could be run in under 4 minutes either until someone did it, now look how the good runners look down their noses at you if you can't do it Thank you Joe I am really looking forward to the BT 'reunion' in March Seriously, that's why I won't swim the Channel. It's furkin' cold, and that's on a good day. Plus, I can't afford to swim the Channel. Oh, and *everybody* does that (yaaawn ... ha ha ha) You better not be a bad influence on me like another guy I knew (and followed his progress of training and preparing) that swam the English Channel and I wanted to do it really bad since then (only the financial side has stopped me going for it so far, but I will do it one day). If you end up putting another far fetched idea in my head of doing, I don't know how I'll cope |

If I think about numbers while swimming, I lose count of my laps. Then I have to penalize myself by going back to the last number that I *know* I did, which is usually something like "2." cottoneyes - 2011-08-11 12:04 AM owl_girl - 2011-08-11 6:19 AM I know this isn't running related but Yanti-fish would be proud of me! I've been trying really hard to get my mile swim (1650 yards) below 30 minutes. I almost did it today! I was at 30:06! I would have been less than 30 minutes except my stupid watch was running fast I had to keep throwing kids camp stuff (and children) out of my lane! Swimming is not my thing. I'm really proud of myself! I need some music if I'm going to swim longer. Does anyone have a swimming music player? Do you like it? You know that they invented the butterfly stroke to clear all kids and other persons out of your lane don't you? Can't help with the swimming music player, don't think I could handle swimming with one. Can I lend you a few of the voices in my head to help you past the time? Haha, I thought I was the only one... Me, myself and I can "talk out" a lot of problems in a good swim. I left work last night with a problem that I couldn't figure out a solution on and quickly forgot about it as I went home (which has taken years to be able to do). Did a reasonably big swim session this morning and half way through it, without even thinking of work, the solution just popped right into my head. I came into work and hurriedly told the manager about what I had thought of and now it's all being taken care of. This happens quite often while swimming and I think it is about time that work realised this and paid for a full lap pool to go in at my house and let me work from home more often... |

It would add, like, single percentages to my total anyway. But I'm building up my running this month ... no, really ... so the second half should be a lot better than the first. Yes! That's it! Fo sho! Well, that's why I called it a "random challenge update." 'Cause you never know when it will occur. And yes. I am evil. But you knew that already, right? <----- Oh look, I just got younger. |
