Also maybe traffic would be better race morning from that direction? Lawrence will be a less than 10-minute drive to the lake. Not sure on race morning traffic as I've been camping most years.

Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread I have a dumb water bottle logistics question. I've only done Oly's up to this point so I'm not entirely sure how the water stops work on the bike. I have my aero bottle that I fill with water and plan to have one water bottle in a cage on the seat tube. I'm planning to just fill my aero bottle with the bottle in the cage and then replacing the cage bottle at water stations. My nutrition will be from Cliff Bars (yummy) so I'm not worried about separate HEED and Water bottles. Just curious how you guys are planning the bike. |

Veteran 249 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread I'll have Infinit in a bottle on the down tube, water in the aerobottle, and a flask of EFS liquid shot as an alternative. I'll refill the aero bottle and dump the given bottle before the end of the aid station. We're in campsite 105. Arriving Friday, leaving Monday. Get together would be great. robert tuwood - 2012-05-30 10:10 AM I have a dumb water bottle logistics question. Tony sounds like you just need to chuck the empty water bottle from your cage as soon as you can in the aid station and grab a re-fill before the end of it. |

Veteran 305 Springfield/Branson | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread I will be there camping on Friday site 152. Our kids will be racing Saturday in the IronKids race. Hoping for a NON wetsuit swim, but will bring in just in case. (Got burned at Hy-Vee last year as mentioned above). Might get hot swimming in it, but it's too much of an advantage to not wear it. Rule of thumb is 10 seconds per 100 yards, so you're looking at over 3 minutes advantage in a 1.2 mile swim. I'll be using Generation UCAN for my nutrition, so I will have one bottle of that on my bike and one water bottle. Won't need much if any more nutrition after that (this stuff is awesome), so I will replace it with a water bottle at the aid station. Hope everybody is healthy and ready for a great weekend. Did this race in 2010, skipped last year, hoping to PR this year. Goal is sub 5:45. |

(Site P139 Campground #3) Let's meet at your camp site for a get together! Some of us might not be there Friday night so what about Saturday night? Any time suggestions? 7 p.m.? I'll probably be eating dinner fairly early, but will still want some time to organize before hitting the hay. Just throwing it out there... |

I'll be racing solo, but will have my hubby and kids with me. They are very supportive but sort of clueless, so it will be nice to also hang with some fellow racers. We have a campsite, but don't really plan on cooking, so will be eating dinners at least in town. We are coming up Friday day, so Fri or Sat would work. I'm also debating getting a hotel too (at least Fri night), to ensure a good nights sleep Fri (& in case the weather is bad), maybe even Sat night (make the family sleep in the hotel and me in the tent). Searching hotels, it seems like there are deals to be had in Topeka, but not sure if that's a lot farther than Lawerence? Also maybe traffic would be better race morning from that direction?lisac957 - 2012-05-29 2:07 PM Is anyone interested in a BT gathering? Pre-race usually seems to work out best. We could meet up sometime Saturday for a meet and greet? Or head into town for dinner? Or just chill at someone's camp site after dinner? I'm rolling solo so was hoping to see some friendly faces I was kind of hoping we'd have some kind of get together so I could meet some of you guys. We're bringing the RV down Friday during the day so I'm good with Friday night or Saturday night. I'll be making waffles Saturday night, it's my traditional night before race fuel. lol We're only driving the RV down and I don't have a way to get to town so I'll offer up our campsite as a meeting place. (Site P139 Campground #3) My wife and our kids are staying in a hotel in Topeka. I'm driving down separately because with 6 of us, luggage, and a couple bikes (our 13 y/o is doing the Iron Kid Saturday), it just ain't happening with one vehicle. I'll be camping solo the night before the race so that I don't have to wake the family up at 4AM and they don't have to spectate for 7 hours and see me three or four times for a few seconds each time. I think Google Maps said it was around 20 miles to/from the hotel with most of it highway/interstate. |

Sounds good, we'll be there all evening and we've got a full service RV if anyone wants to bring a special dinner to cook for yourselves. Let's hope that weather forcast holds! It's been 90+ here all week and I would really rather not race in that kind of heat. |

Veteran 253 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread tuwood - 2012-05-31 5:09 PM I just sent them an email today asking when it was going to be up! (they said tomorrow) I also asked about the trash drop zones on the bike course. Like you, I've never done this distance, so I wanted to get a handle on how long I had to fill and drop a bottle. There response was "I believe you will have approximately 100 yards on either side of the aid station for the trash zones." Went to the pool (Dr disapproved) with my giant scabbed over lip (it's so pretty) this am, felt good to get in the water, but my right arm (tetanus shot) was still sore. Trying to decide if I should use or not use my wetsuit for my two OWS, before next weekend (I've tried it on, but never swam in it), given that I may or may not be able to use it on race day. Thoughts?Just noticed they finally have the 2012 athlete guide up. I'm reading it now. http://ironmankansas.com/files/2010/11/Kansas-70.3_FINAL_ACE.pdf |

They posted over on Slowtwitch today the nutrition information for the "bite-sized" bars they are handing out on courses this year. Check it out! They are also gluten and dairy free and SERIOUSLY the best tasting bars I've ever had. I order them by the case. |

Its different than swimming without one, thats for sure. Also, if the water is palatable I'd recommend doing a swim without a wetsuit as well. Which swims are you doing? My wife and I will be at the TNT swim at Lake Manawa Saturday morning. Another thing to remember for the race. Its wetsuit legal up to 76 degrees, but you can still wear the suit up to 81 degrees and it just makes you ineligible for awards and the championship slots in Vegas. If you're not competing for either of those spots then I'd plan on wearing it. |

Veteran 253 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread tuwood - 2012-05-31 6:34 PM I know if I plan on wearing it, I need to swim in it 1st to get used to it, but I guess my debate is whether to wear it at all. My OWS's have always been without, and I'm fine (although never this distance-in the pool yes). I'm a planner, so the indecision is killing me. Tony, I wish I could go tomorrow, but I'm doing the Urban Adventure Race & it's at the same time (a 3 1/2 hour race a week before isn't ideal, but it's lots of fun and my team won the women's division last year so we get 1/2 off our entry fee, so I couldn't resist). I'm planning on going sometime Sunday (I'll make my husband come and watch me), and another day next week. I figure I can also wear it in our clubs outdoor pool too to practice getting it off and bike after (just have to get over the funny looks I'm sure to get!) Since this is my 1st HIM, planning on completing (w/a smile) not competing, so not winning any awards, but think I would feel funny if they aren't really allowed (sort of like the people doing the NY tri with noodles, allowed-yes, but come on! )Omahabritt - 2012-05-31 5:32 PM tuwood - 2012-05-31 5:09 PM I just sent them an email today asking when it was going to be up! Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread Having an internal debate on when to arrive. If I arrive Friday I risk not sleeping well both of the two nights before the race. And I'd have to take a 1/2 day vacation. But I'd have more time to take things at a leisurely pace (but if it's hot out, I might regret being there so early). If I arrive Saturday, I can't get in until afternoon due to the Iron Kids race, so risk being rushed with setting up camp, practice ride/run, athlete check in, expo, bike check in, dinner, BT gathering, race organizing before bed. Just thinking out loud. |

We've got the RV though so I'll sleep like a baby and its got really good AC so heats not an issue. I'm planning to hit the water and doing some last minute bike tweaking on friday evening and then just Chillaxing on Saturday soaking up the expo and cheering on the kids ironman. |
