![]() | ![]() ernestov - 2012-04-09 4:26 PM chris2533 - 2012-04-09 1:15 PM I don't know if deep water running is good for hamstring issues, but I'm becoming a big fan of it. Today I did intervals. BUT I also ran outside two miles today and 1 mile yesterday. Achilles felt ok both runs. So I'm easing back in to training for my marathon. I ran both runs barefoot, but I'm adopting a strategy of barefoot or FiveFingers for most runs, but shoes for longer runs (say longer than 10 miles) and races. I bought a pair of Newton mv2s. Almost as light as my FiveFingers (about 6.8 ounces). I've prayed for this moment Chris, I know how much of a believer you are, but that transition to nothing is long and painful. You've been on soles for more than forty years and not only you have taken them out of the equation, you have also increased your running mileage by a lot. You will notice a difference, not only in comfort but speed as well.Take it easy though... Actually, I'm just copying this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpnhKcvbsMM (my wife accuses me of having a man crush on him. His running really is beautiful.) Anyway, he runs almost all of his runs barefoot or Vibrams, but runs his races and long runs in Newtons. He has run under a 2:35 marathon something like 20 out of the last 22 years. Last year he won the Air Force marathon in 2:37 (wearing the Newtons). |

Does this mean I am part of the inner circle since I got welcomed into the group twice?

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Chris, love the video. I'll have to look into the Newtons again. To the injured people, I'm a big believer now of the foam roller. I went to physical therapy several months ago for a nagging pain caused by my piriformis muscle. I've also had IT band issues. They sold me on the foam roller. Now, anytime I feel the least bit tight, I'm rolling. Yoga teacher says take care of the area above and below the joint. Is anyone besides me racing this weekend? I keep reminding myself that I'm going to have fun. I'm working the sprint finish line on Sat and doing the Oly on Sun. I can't believe I have butterflies. I'm trying to get them to fly in formation. Two questions: I'm using the Profile Aero design hydration bottle with the hard and soft straw. If I make it long enough to drink without having to put my head down so far I can't see ahead, I feel like the straw is going to poke me in the eye when in the aero position. Any ideas? I've been hot in my long sleeve wetsuit in Austin and have been OWS without it. It's going to be even hotter in Corpus. I'm not a fast swimmer but I'd rather be a little slower and hopefully make it up in the transition than be hot in that suit. The swim is in salt water which will already give me a little more buoyancy. Is it a bad decision not to wear it? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today I ran a loop around Lake The Woodlands, the same loop (one of three) that I did last year in Ironman Texas. I had a good time, it brought a lot of emotions and expectations, wondering what Gabe will go through in each stage of the race and thinking about my own experience on that course. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I didn't get to ride yesterday...easter stuff with fam came first. So today I ran 45 min mostly easy 9:00ishpace with a sort of mile test right in the middle...wanted to run a fast mile, but not an all out effort...did the mile in 7:05 with the last 1/4mile uphill. Tomorrow is in the pool! I think I'm going to go get that book everyone is talking about too. Edited by mikecdisi 2012-04-09 11:07 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sunsura - 2012-04-09 2:10 PM About my previous post about aero bar's cycling..., i expressed myself poorly. what i meant to say was that i can't ride in a straight line, i ride and feel going from one side to another, maybe in a half a meter radius. Not sure how to say it other way, im missing the words for it. Will try to check the fitting, any good links for information on how to adjust the bike? You'll be a lot less stable on the aero bars because the position is so much more narrow. I felt really unstable when I first started using mine. Mostly it's just practice, and confidence (which comes with practice). I'd suggest you find a straight section of road with no or very little traffic and just practice getting onto the bars for a few seconds and then back off again. Gradually increase the amount of time you spend on them, and hopefully it'll improve. To be honest, I wasn't confident enough to really get on my aero bars last year until my first race, when there was a long straight section into the wind (which we cycled on 3 times in total), where I knew that using them would give me a noticeable advantage. It basically took the adrenaline of being in the race to really get me going. Once I'd broken through the nerves I found that I was a lot more stable, and able to use them in less easy conditions. As for bike fit, I would recommend you get a professional bike fit done. I'd had my bike for over a year before I finally got it done, and it really is worth the money. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Honey~Badger Bio: Lynne I'm 46, married, and mom to an 8 year old. I had been a casual runner up to last year when I ramped it up and did two half marathons. Along the way I overtrained and became anemic and sick, effectively putting an end to my running for several months. I decided to cross train, rather than just run, and that has led me to triathlon. I've been training since mid-December and have recently got a coach who lives in my state. I train better and have more motivation when there is someone to be accountable to. I started my tri training with MarkAllenOnline, so I am familiar with the MAF method. I'm currently signed up for two triathlons, but plan to add more along the way. I'm doing the Got Energy sprint in West Salem on June 10 and the Rev 3 Oly in Wisconsin Dells in August. I have several goals this season. I would like to run faster, I want to finish in respectable times for my age group, and I would like to shed a few pounds along the way. Can someone add me to the challenge or instructions on how to do so? 144.3 lbs Edited by Honey~Badger 2012-04-10 4:38 AM |

Would do it, if i knew where. Don't think that kind of services exist around here in Portugal, might do some search to try to find some, but never heard of it. Thanks for the tips |

My A race in June is reputed to be flat and fast. I have a feeling a LOT of people will be using aero bars. I have a road bike and have been toying with getting some clip ons but wondering at this time - assuming it will take time to adjust etc - is it recommended? Thoughts? Edited to Add: I should mention I am VERY slow on the bike - so thinking any added assistance might be worth considering... Edited by kimmax 2012-04-10 5:53 AM |

I found I liked riding with those more than with the road set up. I felt the areo bars were more comfortable and put less stress on my neck and back. Edited by JBacarella 2012-04-10 7:16 AM |
