I think I should get on a plan. lol

I am being coached and following his plan right now that has me training between 15 and 20 hours./ week. I strength train during the off-season. No need for it now in season. And yes, some sort of plan would increase the chances of success.

I am probably on the low end of most athletes because my training focuses more on training stress than volume. That is not to discount volume. My volume will be increasing as the race approaches. Just not as much as most.

I've been training little less than you at around 6-8 hours, but volume is on the increase. The plan is to max out a little under 20. That being said, I'm in the same boat in that I'll focus more on stress than volume.

For me, there's really not a lot of room for high volume weeks, especially since I keep workouts confined to early mornings and lunch. Evening is family time.

I've been using this approach for a couple seasons now and it is working well. I have much more time. Once I learned to work hard while training my volume went down considerably.

I dusted off the plan I used for Louisville in 2011, it was made by my then-coach and customized for me. This week I'll hit 11 hours. After next week's rest week (9.5 hours) I'll ramp up to 11, 12, 13 hours each week after. Peak week is 17.5 hours.

No strength training here.

I hope you all don't mind me jumping in a little late.  I've been on the training wagon for almost 10 months in prep for Lou.  My volume over that time frame is driving me pretty hard but I hope to be ready come Oct 11.  Someone can keep a countdown going if you like, it will be a nice distraction for me to think about how little time there is left to prepare.

I raced Wisconsin last season as my first full distance race and I have to say I did far better than I expected.  I had had my third knee surgery on March 30 of last year and missed running for 3 full months while recovering.  But I was able to swim and bike during all but 1 month of my rehab, so nothing lost there.

This week I'll put in a shade over 15 hours of training but keep winding things up for another couple of weeks before Steelhead.  Short tapers are part of my typical regimen and I seem to race decent that way.

Hey all. I am also in Louisville this year. It will be my first IM and I am super pumped for it.

I am heading into a recovery week but this week (ending today) was 13 hours with a long run of 11 miles and a long bike of 57 miles and swimming between 3000-3500 yards three times a week. Pretty much self coaching myself with the help of some friends that have ran Louisville before and reading as much as possible (literally obsessing over trying to read at least one new thing every day). I think I am in a pretty good place but I know that I am going to be freaking out the rest of the way thinking that I will not be ready.

Time is flying by though. It seems like only a few weeks ago that I had six months to prepare for it and now we are down to three.

Anyone have any good intel on the start time? Originally I had heard that it was going to be a 7:30 start due to the late fall sunrise. Lately I'm hearing rumors of an on time 7:00am start.

I won't trust anything I hear until the athlete's guide is out, and even then it could perhaps change race morning based on cloud cover. You can start before sunrise, but 7am might be a bit early.

I emailed them and they said they won't make the final decision until a few weeks out from the race. I think it would be a major liability if they chose to start in the dark. Maybe they could get some underwater lighting

Although they started IMCdA at 5:30am this year. Nothing would surprise me.

Yeah, Louisville is in the far western part of the eastern time zone, whereas CdA is in the far eastern part of the pacific time zone. Sunrise times will definitely differ.

How many of you are feeling the training load is heavy right now?  I've got a lot of things going on this season outside of triathlon and probably feeling a combined stress load.  I'm racing Steelhead as my warm-up to Lou and I'm ready for the training break.  The taper and recovery will bring a bit of respite from the volume I'm working through right now.

Is anyone else racing Steelhead?

I'm feeling it but also really loving it
I'm registered for Pigman on August 16, but it falls on a recovery week for me so it was perfect timing.

I had a much needed recovery week this week. It was great! I took off everything yesterday with a complete rest day ( no lifting or swimming). I ramp up starting on Sunday again with a hilly century!

I'm worried about these cool mornings we are having in OH right now. It was only 55 this morning. I don't mind it for the run, but cool air for a swim in KY is keeping me scared! I sure hope it gets warmer. Can I wear 2 wetsuits?lol

I just got back from AZ and training took a big hit. I got hurt after falling during a run, which cost me a week, then went on a cross country road trip back to NC, which cost me another week. Now that I'm back, it's time to get back to quality training.

i'd embrace the weather and hope that it's that cool at the start of the IMKY. The water is apt to be warmer and one wetsuit will keep you warm enough. Although it might be chilly at the start of the bike, you'll appreciate that weather as the day progresses. Trust me on this one.

Yep, I'd kill (ok, maybe an exaggeration) for a 55 degree morning on Oct 11.

Just got back from a mountain biking trip to Colorado with 4 friends. 13 hours of mountain biking and virtually no swimming or running, but it was a blast. Now it's time to get serious.

I'm with the cooler weather stuff.  I have to say though, the cooler weather is a concern of mine too.  That time of year can go either way for the temps but cooler would be the best way for it to go.

My training just peaked at last season's high.  I came in at 18 hours last week.  But I'm feeling pretty good right now because Im getting ready to start my Steelhead taper.  I have a 2:10 run on Sunday and then race on the 9th.

And for anyone fretting about swimming in the dirty (by US standards) Ohio River, just remind yourself that it could be worse. We could be Olympic triathletes looking at having to swim in virus-laden raw sewage in Brazil. I can't imagine training for 4 years only to be forced to swim in that.

I am in for Louisville as well late to the BT party. I have been training since last year. I am looking for race reports from previous years. I am currently between 17-20 hours per week. I am doing Toughman Al on the 15 as my setup race. Anyone else doing toughman?
