Nice rides guys.  you suck.  I'll be out of my foot boot next Saturday so I'll be able to get some real training in.  Still no running for a couple more weeks.

No coach, BT Advanced IM plan (when I'm allowed to start)

Happy Easter LP'ers and lurkers.  It's a beautiful training day here.  Low 70's and drizzly rain.

PennState - 2010-04-03 7:08 AM OK, there have to be some people who are doing nice long rides in the beautiful weather today. Anyone? Anyone?

Bueller?
Bueller?
Bueller?

I spent 45 miles as DC's parachute this morning.  I'll pull some when I get me some cycling legs.

DC's a fast dude!

If I'm fast, then Fred is uber-super-duper ultra fast!!!

No Coach.  I reference the book "Going Long" every other night.  I'm using the BT Intermediate Plan as a guide for overall volume and mostly swim workouts.  My Running is actually where I right it right now for LP as I've been building my Run since November, so I am going to try and simply 'maintain my Run fitness base' while doing as much Swimming and Cycling as the Family and Career will allow-- all while listening closely to my body.

I'm not surprised insurance won't cover setting up a nutrition plan for a race!

Is it your nutrition plan for daily living or your nutrition plan for the race you need help with?

I proposed that I have a family history of diabetes and I'm vegetarian, so I wanted to make sure that I don't have any deficiencies and whatnot and that I was concerned about nutrition as I prepare for the Ironman distance...they didn't bite.  I was hoping to have someone analyze my daily meals and suggest improvements.  It's all stuff I could do myself, but I'm L-A-Z-Y!!!!! =

PennState - 2010-04-03 8:38 PM Hey, question for those posting in this thread???

How many of you are coached?
Following a training plan?
Neither?

Me?
No plan, no coach.

Who's next?

I'm coached. My schedule is way too unpredictable to follow a plan. He changes my schedule sometimes more than once a week. He's a very patient man...

For what it's worth, I've been told by many it's not worth the expense. You can probably get some incredible and free nutrition advice here with so many coaches posting.

Good point. I do have a MS in Nutrition, so I could figure it out...it's just that we didn't learn SQUAT about meal planning since that's a different program.  I figured if I was doing a co-pay then I was investing in the idea that nutrition counseling is helpful and then I would actually do a food diary...I've tried countless times, but barely get past breakfast before I forget to write down what I ate!

PLUS, I was really curious about talking with the RD because she has a marathon background and I wanted to pick her brain about what to eat during the run.... I see most folks take in gels and bars on the bike and I actually prefer REAL food (fig newtons and bagels, for example) so I wanted to get her thoughts on switching to gels during the run...but I know I can figure it out on my own with trial and error... just wanted to hear what a professional had to say.

I got in a 37 mile ride.  I wanted to go 60+ but....  I didn't get home until 3:30 am and missed the 6am group ride with our tri club (I got up when the alarm went off and tried to get out of bed, but the alcohol was still sloshing around!).

*note to self* chocolate/raspberry GELATO martinis do NOT help me train for LP.  Long rides do.

Self-coached (I am a USA Triathlon Certified Coach) and a very regimented plan that I developed for myself and my athletes doing IMLP.

Starting with today this should be a BIG week of training for me.  I hope I can get the sleep I need.  With out the sleep my recovery gets all screwed up.  I also think it affects my speed somewhat, especially on the bike.

I did a group ride today with a few friends.  Most of which was the first time out this year.  Then some were saying how out of shape they are.  That was a setup for a slow ride for sure.  So a couple of us basically just keep attacked ourselves the whole time.  Then the group would catch up and off we went again.  It was SOOOOooooooo much fun.  Man I miss training like this.

This has been a pretty terrible recovery week.  I don't feel like I've recovered at all...my measly 4 mile run today felt like hell.  I just need a good P90X yoga workout I think. =) Some stretching, breathing and focusing would do me good.

p.s. Am I the only vegetarian on here??

PennState - 2010-04-04 5:09 PM Well I got out on a nice ride after all.
176 miles for my April so far (said mainly to motivate DC in his quest for 600 miles in April )

I just planned out 686 miles for myself this month on my Training Calendar.  The extra 86 miles is padding for bad weather and such.  No Excuses.  Man, my Running is going to take a HIT this month!!  My Running is only going to consist of short Transition Runs and 1 Long Run per week.  But this is why I am a TRIathlete and not just a Runner anymore.  God-Willing this nice weather will continue throughout April.

DC, why 600 miles?  How did you come up with that and what reason?  Just curious, but I think its way off by trying to hit such big mileage.  You may or it's known to cause injury by increasing volume so quickly.

IMO I think you’re better off increasing on the mileage maybe to 450 and keeping your swim and run there as well.  Maybe pick up the swim a bit.  Use the swim on recovery days as well.  Then next month increase the bike to 500 or 550.

Don’t get me wrong I'll support you and its just my opinion.
