Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed I'm so close to sub 200 I can taste it. 201 today on the scale. I can't believe when I started in October at 252 it would go so well. I may be out of the run and bike but I'm not out. Suck it failure! (sorry if I offended anyone but it had to be said, yes just like that also ) I really don't feel all that bad about no bike or run now that I'm adding in strength and the elliptical with extra swims. Cardio is cardio no matter how I get it right? The bright side is the core strength work is free speed and somewhat of an insurance against future injuries. My main priority now is to get healthy and come back stronger (and maybe not as stupid). Live and learn BDAS, live and learn. |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Question for you racers. Do people wear a HRM during a race or only for training? I have a hard time with RPE so I rely on the actual numbers. Would racing with it be a "normal" thing to do? I also assume you would hit the water with it on so it doesn't slow you down putting it on when you get out? |

For a longer race, like an oly, I would probably put it on during t1. I use a Garmin, which are not waterproof. |

I didnt for the sprint I did last year... however I dont always use the heart rate ranges for training either.....annnnd its just something else to put on and where I am not competing for the podium, I prefer to just enjoy the races. Sub questions, have you ever checked your GPS run distance VS actual measurements.... I have done a few 5K races that are short by a 1/4 km on my Garmin!.... I did have pretty good times for them though |

Veteran 706 Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed A couple of general updates. House-hunting has finished, and packing has commenced. We found a nice 3 bedroom, 2 bath, full basement ranch that has all kinds of ugly - as my dad said, the '70s called and want they want their basement back. The best features are the 2.5 car garage and the fact that the neighborhood it's in has a 50 acre lake in the middle (no swimming though   and a 2.5 mile running path that links up to a 6 mile multi-use path. Closing is set for May 20, but I'm hoping things will move up a bit. My lease ends on May 27, so we're cutting it close. New bike! I scored a killer deal on craiglist - $450 for a 2010 Fuji Cross Comp cyclocross bike - Shimano 105 groupset, carbon fork. Front derailleur is frozen and a night in degreaser didn't help, so I'm running it as 1x10 right now. No other problems that some lube and attention didn't fix. Overall, I hope this week shapes up as well as I hope. Work's getting busy, but that should make the time fly. |

Veteran 340 Dallas | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed got a quick row in, short run, a few pull ups and pushups. Still in recovery mode before crossfit. Total workout time was 20min. Wearing my race shirt today at the office (and half of my staff). Alex, I think it is important to use and not use a heart rate monitor. Mine malfunctioned during my race and I was not too concerned about that because I was used to going by effort. I think it is helpful for you to know by feel what your heart rate is roughly. That will come with practice. There is a lot of info out there about heart rate training zones. I am no expert on that. |

What a great schedule you have planned. I'm shooting for the Rev3 oly also but in Venice, FL. I bet the Chicago marathon will be a blast. |

Awesome job!! Looks like a great sked...although the 2 week turnaround on the Oly's could be painful...just sayin... As soon as my shoulder/neck gets on board with my training, I will be burnin' the plastic up! I registered my 5 and 10 year olds in races already...none for dad or mom yet! |

Sprints-don't bother, they are called a sprint for a reason! Olys-I don't but that is just me. Just one less thing to worry about. with experience you will get to know where you should be at. Longer distances-beats the hell out of me. I have not race them! |

Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Good news: got called in for cortisone shot to shoulder yesterday(originally May 7). Bad news, while better still not 100%. Tried stationary bike and teeny run...still not feeling the love. It felt great to exercise though!! More physio, more naproxin, a visit to neurologist some time in the next year probably to do some electro-something or other test for carpal tunel(sp) syndrome test. Tired of being injured. |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Morning all:I'm waiting for my kids to wake up. We've had an unbelievable vacation do far. It's been a rough year somewhat for everyone in my fam but seeing the smile on my older sons face when another boy (who he didn't know) gave him a foul ball made up for all of it. I'm not sure how it went down but I think the other boy just wanted to do something nice and so when he overheard that EQ was visiting from Boston - he handed over the baseball. Almost cried!Headed towards Toronto this morning once kids get up. I've been working out a little and watching my calories so I should be in track to have a decent week health wise. So glad things are going so well for so many of you! I'll.check in tomorrow when I get home!Prost! |
