See active moderation would end a lot of this.  Actively moving threads to the appropriate section would set expectations on what goes where.  Actively popping into threads and dropping warnings or handling it on the DL with PMs would do the same.  The invisibility of the mods on this site has always befuddled me.

Jen your questions aren't dumb or newbish.

Yes. Yes I do.

That's exciting, Scott!  Are you doing IMTX next year, too, Kelly?

I think next year is going to be Roth and IMFL.  Its really tough to prep for Texas in New England.

There really are no dumb questions.  What's "dumb" is not asking.

Lock yourself in your cellar with the heat cranked up on the trainer???  Roth looks really cool.  One day.

I'm riding long tomorrow or Sunday depending on the weather and when Cindy wants to take the girls to Brave.  After the debacle of last weekend I'm looking forward to roads I know like the back of my hand.

This is actually interesting.  We get the electricty bill last March and the bill for February was over $200.  Obviously my first reaction was to yell at Shaun because this had to be his fault.  Come to find out I had been using (cranking on high) an indoor space heater / fan while I was on the trainer to get the heat up and it used quite a bit of power.  So it was actually my fault.

Kelly that was a great post! Jen same with yours. I learned the hard way a long time ago to use the search function after I caught someone in a bad mood I guess. I am also a believer, as Kelly mentioned, that no question is a dumb/newb question because we all have been a newb at one time or another in our lives. Thanks for answering all my "newb" questions As for this weekend I am racing in the Jefferson Sprint in Charlottesville, VA.

My question of the day:  Does anyone do really long sets and their hands go numb?  It is almost always my right hand that goes numb if it is a continuous set (long swim) without a break.  Is it just my hands inability to handle cold, even though it is 80+ degree water?  Am I pinching something in my shoulder?  Just wondering, it goes away after I stop, no LT effects, but annoying when swimming and trying to shake my hand on the recovery part of the stroke

Think I will go for another 2 mile OW race next Saturday. They already OK'd my using the pull buoy!!!

I'm hoping to get out on the roads again (also 95+ degrees) on Saturday for my long ride, but the forecast isn't looking pretty.  Severe thunderstorm warning.  We'll see what the hourly looks like when I get up tomorrow.  3 hours on the trainer sounds like hell at this point.  For some reason my saddle feels uncomfortable when I go that long on the trainer, but it doesn't bother me at all on the roads.  Weird.  Longish run and another ride on Sunday.  We're moving in 2 1/2 weeks, so the rest of my time will be spent packing up.

However the water is probably going to be 80+, and the bike and run don't have a lot of shade. It's supposed to get up to 102 in Muncie tomorrow.

If you're planning on an HIM no doubt. There are some cool Olympics I'd travel for. I did NYC which is a 3-3.5 hour drive for me depending on traffic. No regrets loved the race. I'd plan a trip to the west coast around doing Alcatraz.

I drove down to CT to do Stamford which is about 2 hours for me. Loved the race. Suprised our CT members haven't done it.

carrie639 - 2012-07-05 6:28 PM Somimknow a lot of you watched the Olympic trials. Did anyone see the distance swimming? They said these guys swim 10-15 MILES per day! WOW

The male 1500m winner swam a 14:xx.  So fast.

They have a Manhattan swim Marathon every year. It's 28 miles around the island. The winner last year did it in just under 7 hours. So 15 minute miles for 7 hours. That's just insane. If all I was doing was a single mile I could pull off 26 minutes on a lake with no wake whatsoever. I have no idea what I could do two miles in but needless to say more than 52 minutes. It's humbling to realize how much better elite really is.

It's just me. I am not a traveler. I don't mind getting somewhere, but hate the return trip. Muncie is a long 5 hour very boring drive and while I liked the race, it is not very scenic.

So what are everyone's plans for the weekend?  I know we have a few people racing.

I'll be biking long tomorrow (in 98 degree heat whooo hooo) and run long via a split run on Sunday.  My excitement for today was that I ran over a frog (accidently) and it popped and splattered every where.

That sucks on the frog. I hate seeing road kill. I haven't hit an animal on the bike but a few squirrels have made it really tough to avoid them. The other day I ran by two dead raccoons and I could only think whoever hit them tried to by the spacing and it pissed me off to no end. It could have been two different people but still.

Saturday early morning OWS and then beach with the family. OWS will be a pond and the family the ocean.

Sunday the wife has to be out of the house early so I'm going to have to start my long ride sub 5AM which getting up is no issue but it won't be completely light out yet either which coupled with the woods no matter which direction I start can be a bit unnerving.

So just wondering, why did they shorten Muncie?  The heat is unbearable, but you guys keep saying in AZ and TX it is just as bad.  Our humidity isn't more than 40%, but 100 does feel like 120.  Is the heat that much different in TX, AZ, Kona???

I hate the heat, so I get it and probably would have been thrilled but for the 5 hour drive.  But if people had know prior, many probably would have stayed local and done an olympic.

So here is my take.  As much as I want to say HTFU and race, this is probably the smart decision.  As a southerner I train in 90+ temps for the majority of the year and 100+ heat index for a good 4+ months.  My body is used to it.  Dealing with it is a way of life for me.  I watched a ton of euros and yanks wilt in the Texas heat in May.  It’s just impossible to prepare for and borderline dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.  That said I don’t get how y’all swim in the water temps you do :shiver: .  Given the fact the majority of 70.3 participants are “local” it’s probably a good bet that the good folks of IN haven’t been doing heat acclimation runs for the last few months. No one wants a death on their hands.  Ya know what I mean?
