It's just what I think I'm capable of.  I will 'listen to my body' closely and adjust if need to.  April is the only month where I don't have any Races (one mini-Sprint) so I want to really BUILD my Bike Fitness this month.  In early May I have another Half Marathon and then a Half Ironman, then another Half Ironman in early June; so only in April and then jumping to mid-June am I going to be able to consistently BUILD on the Bike.  I plan to ride within myself, though.  I just want to put miles into the legs.

I think a big volume bike month is fine if you can handle the imapct of fatigue on swim/run. You really can't injure yourself on the bike from volume like you can with running, so it's a safe way to get in a lot of aerobic work done. the only problem is if your so shelled you run training quality suffers, that's not ideal.

Hey, has anyone ever used Swedes instead of "regular" goggles? I'm so sick of the raccoon eyes look I've got going after every flipping swim workout now.  (I swim before work and I'm getting a little tired of the "Are you ok? You look like you haven't slept at all" comments). Someone recommended them to me. Anyone have any experience using them for swimming workouts and/or races?

I used to use Speedo Vanquisher goggles and got bad racoon eyes. I switched to Aquasphere goggles after continuosly seeing a lot of pro's use them.  I'm using the http://www.aquasphereswim.com/us/ Kaiman model, and they're awesome!! They give me a very slight circle that's gone by the time I leave the YMCA.   The part that suctions on your face is thicker than the speedo's goggle and much softer.  Just a little tap with your finger on the Kaiman lens and it sticks to my face with little suction.  I don't have to put the strap tight and they don't leak, unlike the Speedos.  Works like a charm for me.

That's what I was thinking (hoping).  I mean, if my body can handle all the pounding of Running I do, what's 150 miles on the Bike a week?   And it is all about the Bike right?  Or mostly??  I mean, two seasons ago (my first season)  I ran a stand-alone 1:31 Half Marathon.  A month and a half later I ran a 2:10 HIM Half Marathon after a 56-mile Bike (that I did not push on).  Ever since that Race I've been trying to drill it into my head that I need to Bike more.  Last year I biked more, but I still don't think I Biked enough.  This April, that all ends.  I need to start really putting time in on the Bike.  It's the reason I busted my asss on the Trainer all Winter, so when the nice weather came, I could go Long and hard.  Right??   Don't mind me.  Just rambling.

PennState - 2010-04-05 10:01 AM What's new in LP thread workday today? Anybody training

Nope.  Not today.  Unless 90min massage counts.

Recovery week for me.  Last week was my biggest week of the season so far, cracked 18 hours.  Being able to get out and bike helps.

As far as the 600 mile bike month goes, I might challenge for it.  I'm up to 153 miles so far for April.

PennState - 2010-04-05 2:45 PM Actually I have put my name ob to be a mentor. Will have to be approved first. Sorry for jumping the gun

Fred - can anyone be in your mentor group or are you just looking for brand new newbies?  My profile would be much more along the line of decently experienced and with a running/coaching background, but really looking to refine my approach and go from MOP to FOMOP.  I won't be asking how to do transition faster or what tire pressure to run... but I would be interested in higher level conversation about big volume training, etc.  Anyway - I guess my question is if you're willing to mentor people who could also mentor a complete beginner.

PennState - 2010-04-05 12:45 PM Engineered are you really doing back to back Ironman across country?

That's the plan.  RD for Vineman generously gave me free entry since I crashed early on the bike last year.  It's free, so what the heck.

I have started using the Speedo Air Seal Tri glasses. They are much bigger than the Vanquishers I was using and are super super comfortable. The only issue so far is the strap in the back only loops through the clip, not double looped like the vanquisher. This makes it come loose every once in a while. I am going to try and glue/clip the strap in place now that I find the comfortable fit spot on them. If that works, then these are really great glasses that I recommend. The Vanquisher gave me racoon eyes as you have to get them tight to work.

COOL!!  All right folks, we got two LP BT'ers vying to hit 600 miles on the Bike this month ...  Would anyone else like to step-up and declare themselves a contestant?  And FYI: It's not a competition against one another for highest Bike total; It's a Quest to get to 600!! Together! Get there before the 30th and you're a Winner!!  Perhaps we'll have multiple winners and help one another!

I'd love to join because it would make me less inclined to blow off a workout, but I have a bit of business travel this month including one really unfortunate stretch over a weekend. Without that long weekend ride I'd never make it So in the spirit of challenging myself, I'll just aim to do the best I can, maybe I can exceed 450. It will be fun to watch you guys work for it!

Josh I would love to have you in my group. My hope was to have a group interested in the HIM to IM distance who were looking for a little guidance and motivation.

Wait... there are other distances???
