Sorry to disappoint, people.  Don't know what Kim is up to (a job, maybe?!) but I was out in the rain, running!  Probably would have stayed drier in the pool, closing a hole.

Ha!  This made me laugh out loud.  I am currently interviewing candidates for an office assistant position...one of my favorite staff members had a baby over the summer and cannot afford to work and I have tried everything short of a new car to get her to come back and the other is graduating from a paralegal program and moving on.

This time around I have a simple quiz that is apparently not that simple:  maybe college graduates these days do not know how to do simple equations without a calculator?????!!!!

1.75 + 2.75  = x

0.75 of 16    = x

-4.50 + -3.50 = x

40% of 320    = x

So far, I have had ZERO people get all of these right.  REALLY????  I thought it was insultingly easy, but had been burned with our last hire who was constantly getting things mixed up.

Sad commentary on the state of CA education!!!!!  They are all college graduates, some from UC Berkeley, one from UCLA, some with experience in large retail stores, some at accounting firms!!!

WAHHHHHHHHHH!

Wife getting her Coast to Coast Medal at Disney World.  It was a girls trip and the three of them were all dressed like this.  They had way to much glitter and WAY to much fun to be running a half.  2 of them PR'd and wifey was just seconds away.

First lesson today with the swim coach (who is also my cousin).  She said my form was not good enough yet to go fast .  There goes that theory.  Focused today on closing "holes".  I hadn't heard that before, something else to worry about.  Great workout though.

Kim and Linda - at the same time?  really?

sad...I think you don't get out of elementary school without that level of math.  Then again, I remember a journalism major walking into a TV room where 5 or 6 engineers were watching TV.  He asked "how do you convert point 5 to a fraction?"

Hi everyone!  I haven't been on much.  January/February tends to put me in a funky mood and this year it happened again.  I don't really have much of a reason.  There is way too much to catch up on here so I hope everyone has been having a great 2012 so far!

Jayne would have been hired in a snap! Unfortunately the travel costs would have been prohibitive. I do think your schedule might be just be a tiny bit hard to accommodate... Good news is that my last candidate of the day was very engaging. Encouraging despite missing one math equation. Ah.

Just got news that IM New Zealand has been cancelled due to bad weather; one of my best mates was due to do his first IM there on Sunday.

He says they may try to run a HIM if weather permits.

I'd be so P##ssed off if that happened to me, I can't imagine how disappointing it'd be having trained for all those months, especially when it's so hard to enter these races!

I know a girl from here that was going to do it.... Shes done a fewIM's already, but to travel half way round the world to have it cancelled would sure suck.

Good news from the Dr.  Just a severe muscle spasm of the trapezius.  She thinks the trigger was swimming (muscles warm and loose in the pool) and not giving my muscles enough time to adopt before heading out into the cold.  What does the MG think about that? Anyway, my script for muscle relaxers are being filled.  Looking forward to the end of the pain.

gut feeling - that's good news!  Spasms are treatable, and muscle relaxants can be goood.....just don't drive while you're taking them!

Hang in there!

Brent--Good luck this weekend.  Strong legs, strong heart all the way to the end!

Christina--glad they solved your problem.  Hopefully you will be good as new soon.  I am working through a shoulder issue that ironically has nothing to do with swimming either. It's tied to the way I work on my pc.  Totally clogged up my bicep tendon.  Totally sucks.  I knew I shouldn't have taken on more work....(yes, Fatty more work).

Everyone else have a terrific weekend.

PS. It is snowing like crazy here with an expected 3-5" by morning.  That also sucks since i had this cool long run that'll have to be done on the TM.  Wah!

No driving on those puppies.  I hear that mixing those with alcohol can be fun though.  Tongue out

Suzy- Similar to you, I think the crux of my problem is that I am behind a computer all day long at work and then I hold my tension in my shoulders making me more prone to this type of problem.  I try to catch myself but...  Seemed like my Dr just thought this particular spasm was triggered by the swimming-cold combo.  Not sure I'm sold on the explanation.

We just got 6" yesterday/last night and the roads are an icy mess here.  I'm praying it's melted some today bc it would have been a recipe for disaster if I ran this morning.  Treadmill is high on my list of wants right now.

GL, Brent!

Proud of her and can't help but share.  She has come so far especially the last year.  She swore to me that a 2 hour half was too fast now she is breaking into the 1:40's.  Her PR is 1:50:00 (that one stung a little).
