Rene is off the bike. Bike split 6:18. Very solid. Hope it is cooler in PCB than it is here. Go Rene!

Rene is through 9 miles on the run and averaging a nice pace in the mid 9 range. Nick is through 15 miles on the run and is averaging upper 9's. Really nice times for this stage of an IM. Go Rene and Nick!

Ok, I am a total loser. I just got on to wish Rene and Nick good luck for their IM tomorrow........

Apparently I am off by a day. I would have sworn that it was on the 4th.

It is great to hear that they both have had such fabulous days out there.

Now I am going to go and check the date for IMAZ to make sure I don't show up a day late.

Might have been Nick. I have not been watching the live feed. Tracker doesn't have him finishing yet but it may have some lag time. He has had a great race.  Nick did his first tri Summer 2011 and now is an Ironman. Great accomplishment and well deserved.

Rene has put in some monster training for IMFL.  Hope she can finish strong and get the kind of result she's been working toward.

Time for Bama and LSU! Roll Tide!!!

Jason-I had thought all week it was on Sunday until some of the local guys were posting on Facebook Friday about the "race tomorrow."

Bummed I had to leave home before Rene finished! I did see Nick finish tho and I was so pumped for him! Finished looking strong! Congratulations both of you. I'm in awe and so inspired. By all of you, actually. Makes me want to go full force in my training. Proud of you both. I felt so connected to you watching the race. I had the kids looking out for your numbers when I had to get up and do something.

Long run done...really warm and humid for early November. May try to get in an easy swim later as some active recovery. Enjoy your Sunday!

Long ride today followed by a short transition run. I really feel like the nutrition is pretty dialed in. I was able to take in just shy of 2000 calories and probably could have done more by adding some gels. That was all liquids. Five bottles at almost 400 calories/bottle.

The run was only two miles. First mile felt crummy but by the time I got to the second I was feeling good.

You never know what is going to happen over the many hours of an IM but I feel like I am very close to ready.

This weekend was just shy of eight hours of training that strained my marriage/family. Next weekend is 2:45 total. That will be a welcome change.

Had to work all day Sunday so I got up at 430 AM this morning to get my last long run done before IM AZ.  18 miles at an easy pace.  Felt strong the entire way.  Starting to get very excited for the race- less than 2 weeks!

Morning all.  Nice run this morning Jim!  I did what was supposed to be a long run (15) last night, but got caught -- and here's a first for me -- in a "nut storm".  A big thunderstorm rolled in, and it was blowing nuts off of trees like hail -- acorns, which are harmless, and hickory nuts, which are not!  I've got welts on my arms and head.  I cut it short to 10 miles and ducked for cover...

A nut storm sounds really terrible...

Hey all,

I have to say, I am really blown away by all of the 'love' in this group (especially since I was a late-arrival). As some of you saw from the finish video, I was a bit excited and emotional at the finish line. As one guy told me that finished behind me, I could of definitely gone a lot faster if I had that much energy at the end.

Honestly, all in all I had a great race. I paced myself conservatively in the swim, as well as the early portion of the bike. It paid dividends at the end. My two slowest bike splits were exaggerated (in terms of the actual time) due to stopping for special needs, and actually stopping to use the facilities, as well as dropping my chain on the way back over the bridge that we cross. I stayed calm, and managed to get the chain back on even though it was jammed in the front rings. I was nervous I was going to break the chain.

I learned a lot about myself mentally and physically the last few weeks, and honestly, I feel so much more confident heading into next tri-season. I found my racing style, and know (at least a little bit more-so) that I can push myself much further. The last mile of the marathon was the most amazing experience, I have never smiled so huge in my life. It was that much more enjoyable since I had my family and girlfriend there (who also surprised me on the bike course to see me a few times...definitely a huge mental boost). It got quite emotional after the finish...

I could go on forever, but honestly, words can't express how I feel. I strongly suggest everyone to sacrifice one year of training and conquer the 140.6 distance, you will not regret it. As to next year (2013), I really want to do a 50 mile ultra, and focus alot on speed/strength at the 70.3 distance. Ideally (more like, in a perfect world), I would love to qualify for Vegas before I age up, however I really would rather do it in Augusta in 2013.

Thanks again for the support from all of you, I was blown away by the outpouring of support!

Nick-so happy that you had a good experience and are pleased with your race. Great to see you get to this point. Hard to believe it was only a little over a year ago that you jumped into triathlon. Fun to be a part of your journey.
