Hope everyone is doing well! Me too!! I keep trying to get out to run (and have been carting running clothes to and from work every day in case inspiration strikes) or swim and just can't seem to get myself started. The good news is that my legs seem to be fully recovered from the marathon - I ran a half last weekend and, while I wasn't fast (by any stretch of the imagination), my legs held out for the full distance (even though I had a plan that involved dropping out at the end of the first of two loops - I kind of forgot to stop and only remembered my "plan" at mile 10, at which point I figured I might as well finish... |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am fighting the lack of motivation with a BT challenge. It is a Crappy Weather Challenge based around exercising in cold, precipitation and wind. Perfect for this time of year. Heather, you should be able to rack up lots of points in your neck of the woods... Check it out...would love to have more in the group http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=271745&start=201&posts=206 |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hope all is well with everyone. I ended up taking last week off training just trying to adjust to a messed up sleep schedule and crazy busy at work. The baby is doing good but Josi was really starting to get exhausted so I started taking over the 10pm -2am feeding shift so she could get more than 2-3 hours sleep at one time - so I have found myself wide awake every night watching tv at 3am (Ughh). Just having a hard time getting up once the alarm goes off at 5am. I figure I will just lay low for another week or two then start up again in December. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Morning Team. Just checking in after your Thanksgiving to see if everyone is still suffering from a Tryptophan induced coma? I just wanted to share a nice swimming experience I had last night with everyone. I made it to a new master’s class last night since I cannot go on Tuesday like I had done before. As you all know I am not that confident in my swimming but I made some head way last night. There were some great swimmers there and I felt like I fit in for a change - which was great. A former student of mine and friend has decided to get into this crazy sport and joined me last night as well - which was great. Anyway, just thought I would share with all of you that I think I may just be getting the hang of this swimming thing Have a great weekend everyone. KC |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KC, great news on the swim front. Btw I just clean and dry my wetsuit then store it in an airtight container. Kinda like Brian's idea too though lol Team, forgive me for I have tri sinned. I have not worked out in many weeks and have become molded to the couch. .....Ok, what actually happened is I completely lost any sense of motivation whatsoever and would look the other way as I passed my bike and tri gear in the basement. From what I understand I am not alone. I have been doing TRX and weight training, but that's about it. Today I think I found a bit of mojo. I actually am looking forward to putting on my sneakers in the am and doing a few (couple) miles. I picked up a coach Troy dvd today too. I guess that means cracking out the trainer. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all,
I've rode pone hour Tueswday through Thursday ...started at 50%....then started adding 70% efforts. Took Friday a a rest day and then doid 90 mins on the bike today with two sets 1 X 25 @ 50% and 1 X 5 mins at 90%! Then another 1 X 15 @ 50% and 15 mins of single pedal drills and high cadence. Then I ran for the first time. I can't tell you how good it feels to run. It feels even better to run without a hernia for the first time since July 2010. I am amazed at how we adapt to pain when we have to. That damn hernia hurt and I did an Ironman with it. Whew. Today, the first mile was very slow, then did negative splits with a cool down for 3.5 miles. Felt great even after the 90 min bike, the rain and the wind. Doctor again a week from Tuesday, then I can swim again. Whoot! Going to sign up for the 70.3 @ Branson 9/23 and I will do two short courses here and maybe 70.3 in Racine in July or a Rev3 70.3 at Wisconsin Dells in August. Love it. Don't worry about a lack of motivation now. Depending on what races you have in 2012, staying fit, having fun doing X training until Dec. 15 or Jan. 1 should not be a huge issue. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Also, watch the food. This is a time to take off some pounds. I'm at about 215-220 @ 11% body fat. I'd love to be at 205 but unsure how that will work since the BF is so low. I'd love to be lighter but losing muscle mass isn't a grand idea. Edited by IceManScott 2011-11-26 8:58 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys, how is the early winter treating everyone? I am in full routine of marathon training. Going to run Glass City Marathono in Toledo in mid April. Will be state #6. Took my daughters to the pool last night. KC - no better way to feel good about your swim then to do laps in a lane next ot an 8 and 10 year old Happy December! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been doing 1 to 2 hours on the bike nearly everyday with tempo, high cadence, single pedal drills and even some strength exercises with low cadence and high power like climbing hills. All good. Ran twice, once 5K and once 10K. Feel sluggish at first but loosen up. Last meeting with the doc on Tuesday. I will get released for swimming then. Plan to add pool time with Masters, some indivvvidual coaching with a tri cocach for swmming, and maybe a personal trainer for a month or two to get my core solid again.
Signed up for Branson half IM in September and two short course races our club puts on here in June and July. Might do one more half at Racine or Wisconsin Dells (Rev3 new one.)

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi folks, I'm still around and traiing, but taking it fairly easy - I've been trying to get to the pool once a week; I'm taking a spin clas with my local tri club once a week; and I play indoor soccer a couple of times a week (let's say that counts as running). I am also trying to get to hot yoga once or twice a week (started back with that last weekend and had forgotten how hard yoga is in a 104 degree room!) That being said, I miss running outside, and so need to get out and start running again. I'm toying with the idea of signing up for the Hypothermic Half at the end of January; if I do, I'm sure it will help with the motivation.. If not that race, I'll be signing up for my local race weekend in May - this weekend is huge with over 40,000 runners competing in the various events. Local support in Ottawa is amazing, with huge crowds out to cheers ALL the runners (not just "theirs") in every race. Problem is that it has become crazy-popular, so I will need to get myself registered by mid-February (or earlier) or risk the popular distances (HM and 10k) being sold out. Hope everyone is doing well! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team. I have been absent for a few days due to another flood in my basement - what a pain in the A$$ but almost cleaned up. As a result of that mess, no workouts in the last couple of days which makes me sad Brian - thanks for the advice, do I get to wear water wings as well when I crash the kids lesson at my college pool on Saturday? Scott - nice work my friend, keep up the comeback. Naked Kevin - thanks for checking in and good luck with the ramp up. I am almost ready to go into full IM mode. Probably a bit early but I need the structure and the plan. Heather - nice to see you checking in and good luck with the running. Have a great weekend team. KC |
