Stu-just glad its basketball season. ACC should be interesting with several teams having a shot at the title. UNC lost alot but has some good young players. Of course what it really boils down to for me is anybody but Duke.  The secession stuff cracks me up. What a waste of time and energy. My politics are inconsistent with the vast majority of people in Alabama.  Somehow I think the USA would do just fine if some of these States where secession is being pushed actually did secede. Now, the topless carwash....that's genius!

Good luck Jason and Jim!

Jim,

Sorry to miss you last night. I didn't check for a message until pretty late.

Bike is checked in. Nutrition is mixed. Plan is set. I am not going to move much at all for the rest of the day.

The practice swim was this morning and the water was brisk! I am not looking forward to spending an hour plus in that water and then hitting the bike, soaking wet, in 50 degree air. I am having to adjust my clothing plan I think. I hate to over dress but I am very seriously considering putting on a long sleeve top. What does everyone think? Good idea or not?

Jason-I would probably put on a long sleeve top or at least some arm warmers. You can always take them off and put them in your special needs bag or tuck in a pocket on your tri top.  The few extra seconds to put on the extra clothing will make you more comfortable on the bike. Don't forget your hands. Maybe a cheap pair of gloves that you can ditch when it warms up or even a pair of socks can be used as make shift gloves.  In my only HIM the air temp was 35 coming out of the water. I added a long sleeve top and some gloves in T1 and was fine on the bike.

Good luck tomorrow!

Jason,
You can also stick a large gallon sized ziplock bag under your tri top. It will work as a wind breaker and keep your chest warm. When you get warmed it is is easy to take out and stuff in your back pocket.
Were you planning on swimming in your tri top? Do you need the pockets during the bike? If you don't need the pockets then I would consider swimming in tri shorts only and adding the long sleeved shirt in T-1. Do you have a wind vest and arm warmers with you?

Swimming in tri top plus compression sleeves under wetsuit. I think I have decided to put on a long sleeve compression top that I brought specifically for this contingency. If I am too warm at any point I will stop and just lose a little time shedding the shirt. If it is at special needs, great. If not I will either discard or stuff it in my shirt.

I have some rubber palmed garden gloves that I will wear until I no longer need them.

Not totally happy about this change but part of IM is having a plan and the having a back up plan. Make sure they aren't the same thing

I rode for 15 minutes this morning at about 8 AM in my long sleeved shirt and it was freezing and I wasn't even wet yet.

Friends,

I've loved being in the group.  I've learned a lot and gotten some great advice and support., but personal (family) stuff has occurred this weekend (alas, while I've been 2000+ miles away) and I'm gong to have to take a hiatus from BT to attend to (much) more important things.  It isn't an immediate family (wife and kids) thing, but pretty close.  I don't regret making my actual, real life identity pretty clear on the site, but the result is that I cannot explain beyond that without compromising the privacy of others.  Let's suffice it to say that I need to help take care of very young children (in addition to my own), and this is going to require most of my attention.

I hope to check back in from time to time, but I cannot really, reasonably, say that I will continue to be a 'member' of the group, because there's no way I can keep up with what's going on (even if you didn't move near the speed of light!).  Best to you all.  Train well and race strong!

--Michael

Michael-I know I speak for everyone when I say we will miss you here in our group and on BT. I know that "family first" is something you take seriously so commend you for making that a priority. You are always welcome to partcipate in our group and hope your time will allow. Hopefully, you will be back soon.  I know how much you rely on my advice on tapering

All the best to you and your family.

Solid swim times. The guys must have a headwind in the early part of the bike as their paces are slower than what I would expect.

Had a good 12 mile long run going today.....until my right calf locked up at 10.70 miles. Had to limp the last 1.5 miles home. Hopefully, it will resolve quickly. I've had problems with that calf several times before. UGH!

Both guys are through the halfway point on the bike. Jim looks to be averaging around 20mph and Jason a bit more. Hopefully they will finish off the bike strong and gert those running legs moving.

Looks like Jason is already on the run and Jim is still on the bike. Some of the bike splits are missing which is typical ...

Guys are going great. Jason bike split was 5:26 and Jim was 5:44. Jason maintaining sub 8 pace through 15 miles. Jimmy's run splits are screwed up but through 10 miles on the run he is just under 9 hours....in good shapr to hit his goal of breaking 13 hours. Hang in there guys. Keep on pushing.

Unless he fell apart over the last 2 miles Jason should finish in the 10:20-25 range. Phenomenal result!
