Who would have thought that less than 60 minutes of lacrosse could make me this sore.  I'm walking around like a bow-legged old man today.

Also, I agree, that is kind of odd there is no on-course splits for the bike.

kt65 - 2012-06-24 11:31 AM Chet is out of the water in 1:14:58!!! Go, Chet, Go!!!

Go Chet! Have a great ride!!

Bummed!! Mad!!! The IM tracking site used to have a few bike splits... now it only has 112 miles. WE HAVE TO WAIT 112 MILES FOR AN UPDATE???? Not pleased with that AT ALL. So ride fast, Chet, so we can see how you did!!!

Glad to hear your legs are in good shape, Julia! You running Cougar on Tuesday??!! (I can't, not in the evening, at least...)

I just saw that as well. Seriously wait another 2 or so hours to get an update!!

Off to Costco!

Seriously?  I've been trying to figure out if I'm clicking on the wrong link or something.  Anybody have any news?!?!?!  How am I supposed to justify sitting around and doing nothing if I can track Chet?

P.S.  The soleus area on both legs bothered me through the entire run yesterday and they are still really tight today.  I try to make sure I'm using good form on the bike (not toes down or anything funky like that).  Could biking in general be stressing my soleus? Could this also be contributing to the tightness in the arch of my foot?  It's not something I would consider an injury, but it is limiting what I can do.  Should I consult a doc?? I would say that this started when I started some hill training for my 1/2 marathon back in feb-mar.

You've been wearing minimalist shoes this season and these will cause pain and stiffness in your soleus muscles until your legs have become adapted and got stronger.

And the hill work will do that, too. Like Suzy said, massage the heck out of it. A golf ball will work if you don't have a PT kit. Put the ball on the floor, roll your calf around on it until you find a tender spot, then press your calf down and hold it for 10-15 seconds.

Havin'Fun - 2012-06-24 1:18 PM

I raced today.  While milling around at the finish line a guy goes down.

He had a freaking heart attack.    Heart stopped and all.  Fortunatley there was an EMT that lived in the neighborhood and had all the machinery.  They loaded ice on his chest until the EMT got his stuff, and was able to bring him back..basically saved the guy (in his early 40'S).  By last report he was doing well.

So many things to be thankful for....the guy went down at the finish line with a ton of people around, the EMT and other medial personnel were there and acted quickly, and he is doing ok.

I was bumming after the race that my legs gave out on me, but this reminded me that I need to be thankful that I am able to race and have fun doing it.

Have a great day everyone...and Go CHET!!!!!!!

Oh Linda... first, congratulations on your race.

These things are really, really hard to see and can have a huge effect on us. I had a similar experience after a HM a couple of years ago. A guy went down at the finish -- spectators were there performing CPR right away, but he had no pulse when EMT arrived. I was with a friend who was a nurse who helped initially, then she got out of the area when there were more people there. I will never forget any of it, it was so disturbing. Fortunately he survived, due to the quick actions of spectators who performed CPR. It really, really puts everything in perspective. This was a young (mid-30's) seemingly fit guy (not overweight, at the END of a HM).

Along the same lines (sorry to be a downer), there is a report of a death during the swim at CDA today. Initial report say heart attack.

Hug the ones you love. What we do with our bodies is a gift, but it is not the be-all, end-all. There is so much more, so take the time to remember that and appreciate it. GROUP HUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And on a happier note...

Awesome bike split, Chet!! Crush the heck outa that run!!!!!!

That will happen when people bash you repeatedly with sticks.   If you're ready to give it up, send Jayne a lacrosse ball to help with her sore soleus muscles. (lacrosse balls work great and last a long time)

but apparently he thought T1 was a good time to make bacon and eggs for his a/g.   however,  all that rest has apparently set him up for a good run as he's avg'ing 8:46 / mile through the first 13.5

Chet is CRUSHING it out there!

David, yes the minimalist shoes are adding something to the factor, and yesterday's race was the first time my feet have seen something other than a trail in over a month.  Hmmmmm.  Sometimes it takes someone else to point out the things that should be obvious, huh?

Julia, the golf balls are in my desk at school, I'm sure there are some more around the house somewhere.  I'm going hunting.

Dan, I don't think I will be needing Tony's balls since I just bought "The Stick" and I also have a foam roller.  Took a long time to decide to try The Stick because I wasn't sure it was really going to be worth the $$, but it's awesome!!

Suzy, I would still like to hear what you have for me.

Just saw that... Hope it's true!! Interestingly, the woman on FB who reported that to a friend of ours was the one I was at the HM with in my earlier story. <twilight zone music> Really, really hope he's OK!!!
