Got a great 20 mile ride in yesterday, had some really nasty cross/headwinds on the way out, figured they would give me a boost coming home, I was wrong, winds changed and hit me again. :/ still somehow managed to hold my best average speed over that distance so far.

Was planning on an 18 or so mile ride today, but I'm really not liking the condition of my rear brake..replaced the pads on both brakes on Monday, but I'm still getting no stopping power out of the rear. Going to bring it to the shop in the morning and have it recabled and recalibrated.

I feel like my training was going well leading up to my wreck, now it's just one thing after the other that's interrupting the flow of things :/

Well it's about GD time!!!!

I signed up for a 5k run in June, it looks like a pretty cool event, and too boot it is Huntsville, ON which is where my fathers family resides. Free Accomadations! wooo. It is a 5 hour drive, but we are going to make a trip out of it and do some visiting. Crazy enough when looking for an event to sign up for there was absolutely nothing in our hometown until mid-july, granted we are a pretty remote town in northern Ontario, but there is a population of 40K+. Makes me think I should start up a spring event... something like the 'Shed your winter weight 7K trail run'.... I think I may look into that.

Alright so it is time to get running, Also I have completely falling off the wagon on nutrition, so my goals for this week are to get myfitnesspal up and going again, and add all you fine folk, and creat a training plan, I would like to get two or three more events on the books, I am thinking a sprint in July, HM in August and a OLY in the fall.

Thanks for the motivation guys and the straw that broke the camels back was John's comment, so thanks John!

Im BACK!!! I hope,,,,

Justin--great to hear you are back in the saddle (so to speak--back in the running shoes just doesn't really have the same ring).

I hit workout 150 for the year this morning with a nice 2.88mi run. It was one of those cool, calm mornings with the sun just coming over the horizon and I felt like I could run forever. I love it when that happens!

We went to see the new Avengers movie last night and did the special double feature, where they showed the first one at 4pm and then the new one at 7pm (my wife is a big movie fan). It was a good show, but half way through the first one I was getting antsy about sitting still so long. By the end of the second film I wanted to sprint out of the theater and run the 7 miles home. Triathlon has changed me in a lot of ways, the complete inability to be a slug being one of them. Two years ago a good Saturday for us would have been doing a movie marathon at the theater, watching 4-5 movies in a row. Now, I'm losing it after an hour or so. Besides, who has time to watch that many movies when there is training laundry to be done?!?

Well there goes my power meter upgrade for a few months since I bought another bike! 2014 Bianchi Sempre Pro with full Dura-ace 11spd and FSA SL-K carbon clinchers. Oh boy what have I done. My wife isn't too happy to say the least but she is coming around It weighs in sub 15 lbs. Taking it to the LBS for an exact weigh in after I take off the bag (just for weigh in) and the computer that I won't use, plus there is a frame pump that needs to go.

Alex - DAMN that's a thing of beauty!!

Justin - yisss.... Good work on signing up even if it's a long trip for a 5k! Nothing like a destination race I actually traveled 1300 miles for my last 5k. Ok we were visiting family in Florida for Thanksgiving and then went out and found a 5k going on while we were there, but whatever. That's actually the one in my profile pic.

Trying to get pics off my phone of the wife's Emonda (now fully set up with aero bars) and me in my way too small BDAS tri top, but it won't let me copy them, save them as anything, nothin... Anyone know how to get your iphone to let you access your own pictures outside of the iphone?

Ok here's a dumb question for you cycling types. What are clinchers? As near as I can assemble from the dictionary at MCB they're called that because of the way the rim holds the tire, requiring a specific type of tire. But i always thought they were by default tubeless, and recent research tells me it's way more complicated than that. So what's the deal? And what are non-clinchers called?

Clinchers are the standard bike tires we've been using all our lives. The tire itself is a lot like a car tire in that the edge of the tire is held in place by the rim (clinched if you will..) and there is an inner tube that is inflated.

Tubular tires are the other type. They're a tire with an inner tube literally sewn inside the tire. They need to be glued or taped to the rim.

There are tubeless clinchers, as you would find on a car, but they're not as widespread as the other two.

Good workouts today..

Got in a 45 minute ride on the trainer this morning, nothing too crazy, little technique work, little resistance.

Late afternoon I got a great run set in, Intervals!

16x400's with negative splits and negative rest intervals.

4x400; 1:45 rest, held around 8:00/mi

4x400; 1:30 rest, held just under 7:45/mi

4x400; 1:15 rest, sub 7:15/mi

4x400; 1:00 rest, all but the last were sub 6:45

Thank god it was fairly cool today, I was dying towards the end, however, it was cardiovascular distress, not muscle fatigue/cramps that I'm usually plagued with.

Gonna need to hit my calfs with the roller tonight, have a long ride in the morning..at least it's not solo this time :D

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

The easiest way is probably to email them to yourself. I do it all the time. Then you just access your email from your laptop and voila!

That is awesome, my profile picture is from our 'Babymoon' in Hawaii three years ago, I actually did a 5K run there and scored my PB of 28:38, because everything including my running is just better in Hawaii !!!

yeah, that should work and thats what I used to do with my apple products. I have recently gotten an android phone, and I tell you, the functionality of it has almost won me over and maybe me forget the astethics and design that draws me to apple.

ex: my phone had 8gb memory, I paid 10 dollars for a micro SD card today and my phone now has 24gb of memory!

Went on a 2.5 hour ride today. Best part of it was I did it with a friend. I forgot how much more fun it is to ride with other people. Guess I need to try to get more group workouts in to keep it fresh.

151/400 17.73mi bike ride around town. I really intended to just go 7-8 miles to try to work on my shifting and road balance. After a winter on the spin bike and on the trainer, I realized last weekend that I needed some work on my handling! Anyway, at the turn around point I decided I was having too much fun to go home and just kept going. This ride felt great and I was able to do a lot of hills that last year just defeated me. I,m on cloud nine right now!

Plus! My wife gave me permission to buy a new bike this year!!! I'm currently riding a cheap road bike I bought off the internet before I knew any better. It has shifters on the down tube and I think it is slightly too big for me. Anyway, I've been thinking about it for a while and since I'm training for a late season Oly (i.e. i'll be spending a lot of time on it), we talked last night and I'm green lighted! I leave for Egypt for another month in two weeks, so it will have to wait until I get back, but I have something to dream about while I'm there now!

Justin – welcome back! Agree Hawaii is a strong motivator for PBs.

Alex – fully agree with group rides; today I joined for the first time a cycling group that a good friend told me about. We rode along with 18 other guys for 3h and it is not only more fun but significantly safer with cars. Definitely going to join them on Sunday rides. And – beautiful bike, by the way!

Gretchen – nice dream for your trip back, I have a nice road bike and it can always be nicer, so keep dreaming on upgrades….

Got my run in yesterday even though I only got 4 hrs sleep so I could get up an watch my daughter play soccer. My pace was ok still having significant hip pain I think it is from my duty belt at work, Today was my day off so I decided to mow the grass. Hoped on my riding mower and on the first pass I herd a loud pop and then the engine caught fire (its 9 years old) soooo off to home depot I go. I now own a John Deere and go the grass cut, which made my wife remind me that the fence needs to be painted, back to home depot. Get home with the paint and sprayer only to have the hose bust spewing paint all over my daughter and I. A quick shower later and yet another trip to home depot I was able to get most of the fence painted, or at least the part my wife wanted me to get done so that I could go buy a bunch of plants that I needed to plant. A trip to the nursery. I am so glad I get to run tomorrow so I can rest.

That's awesome! So happy for you! My only suggestion is to reach out to the LBS in your area to see if they are having an early season sale in the next two weeks. While I wouldn't suggest that you have your wife or someone else buy a bike that you won't have tried out - it would be a sin to miss out by waiting until you get back to start looking for a great deal.

Good luck with your search!

Hi All - Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth for the last two weeks. For those of you that follow me on Facebook - you saw the great trip I took to four baseball parks with my son two weeks ago. We had a blast. Then this past week was a bit of a downer as I settled back into a crappy work situation and still no luck finding a job.

On a positive note - My coach sent me my new schedule to get me ready for a HIM in August and I went for the first long ride today. Averaged 13.6 mph for the 25 mile ride, which was the longest ride I've taken in 6 months. So that was good! I've got a swim tomorrow and another ride tomorrow - IT'S supposed to hit 80! Oh sweet jesus that's gonna be nice.

Anyone have a topic for the week?

Have a great week!

DQ

PS - Wore my awesome new BDAS bike shirt today! So awesome. Thanks Dave O!

Good Morning BDAS!

Got 1000 yards in the swim in and did a little aquajogging as my coach is trying to ramp me back up to running. With a race this weekend - it' looks like I'm going to be walking a major chunk of the run... Sigh....But if I can keep my @ss in gear and lose the weight - I should be running again by the time June rolls around.

Jenn and John - are you coming in for the season openers in Hopkington. No worries if not - I'll just eat incredibly tasty braut they serve to the finishers.

With racing season in full swing - why don't we talk about what people do to prep on race morning.

My race morning goes like this:

The night before I will have my kids marker me with messages that I can read during the race and I will also have my wife write my goals on the back of a playing card - that way I can check them during the race.

Race morning - Wake up at 4 and eat a couple of servings of pre made oatmeal and blueberries (For longer races - I'll eat apple sauce because it has less fiber_ and then I will head back to bed. I usually pack my car the night before so all I have to do is get out of bed, put on my sweats and hop into the car. I stop at Dunkin and grab a small coffee for the caffeine and so I don't fall asleep driving to the race.

Once I get there - I pump my tires up at the car, then walk in and register. By this point, I'm listening to music. I lay out my stuff, go for a quick run and check out the course a bit. Once I get back, I put on my wetsuit and wait. I tend to shut down the tunes and talk to people as I've found it calms my nerves a lot. With 15 to go, I go a gu and suck down half a water. Then I'll hop in the water and swim a bit. I'll take a last pee in my wetsuit (Maybe you guys don't want to come down for the opener and then wash out. I will wait until I'm told to get out of the water so I don't overheat and then I'm ready to go.
