You look at the video of last yrs practice swim on sat...a zoo....I want to STAY AWAY from all things Zoo-ish!! Nice and relaxed all weekend, laugh and have fun, no stress, no rushing around, to bed eairly and up before dawn.....stay the plan. That being said...got this from my coach this morning..... Ignore everything you see and hear. Everybody will look buff and fit. They will be training like a motherf#@ker right in town, on their $12,000.00 bike and compression socks. Laugh at them. But remember them so you can give them a pat on the azz as you run by them! Edited by The Cube 2011-08-22 10:57 AM |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Well friends, things took a turn for the better last night. Apparently it only took the weekend without me for him to realize his mistake. My mind is in a much better place now - but I know I would have rocked this race either way. You people are awesome. Just promise to be nice if you meet him this weekend -not sure if we will be at the Starbucks gathering but it's on my agenda as a maybe. Happy and calm thoughts this week. |

Just try to be careful doing your own thing… The river is an active shipping channel so there will be barges that more than likely will not see you also paddle boats and other vehicles will be on the river. There will more than likely a very strong current. In 2007 at Lou they did nothing with the locks to control the current the day of the practice swim. I recall about 15 people being swept downstream only to be rescued by lifeguards on kayaks. |

There will be an area marked as bottle drop before and after each aid station. Throw your bottles there. Pick up new as you roll through. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thought I'd share this from the iamtri.com web site - some specific questions that were asked directly to the RD, in case you were wondering about these as well!
Q: Athlete gets body marked and gets into the swim line and then needs to go to the bathroom. Does he/she lose his/her place in line? A: No - they can just have the athletes around them hold their spot, hopefully everyone will have good sportsmanship on race morning and let people back in line! A: Spacing will range from 150 - 250 meters. Most will be 150 meters apart. The buoys set on race morning alongside the barges on the river side of Towhead Island will be 250 meters apart. Q: Can an athlete with a race bracelet take another athlete's SNBs to transition (Sunday morning) or does it have to be each athlete turning in his/her own SNB? A: you can have another ATHLETE turn in the SNBs on race morning, that is not a problem! Q: Has Ironman Louisville considered doing body marking during Athlete Check-In/Packet Pickup (similar to IMSG and some other races)? A: Not at this time since they will be marked on Friday and it would probably not last until Sunday, especially with a practice swim between Q: What flavor of Ironman Perform will be served on the bike and run? (Came from an athlete who has trouble drinking Lemon Line; wants to make appropriate plans) A: not 100% sure at this time, either will be lemon lime or mango Q: Will there be a map of transition in the Athlete's Guide? A: we will have 4 x 3 foot posters available for athletes to view at check in and at the info booth Q: How much "reflective material" is required on the run jersey (front and back)? A: just a strip or two, on the front and back, you can purchase this stuff at Lowe's, HOme Depot, etc or they will have some at the Expo. Just enough to be reflective! Q: Is Ironman/officials planning to sweep River Road for debris? (Athlete was alluding to the fact that she has seen alot of broken glass especially between Waterfront Park and Zorn Avenue) A: Yes, the bike course will be swept. River road will for sure be taken care of. They will sweep it on Friday/Saturday before race day Q: Will the railroad tracks that cross River Road (just east of the Yellow Lot) be covered in any way? A: They will check them for any bad spots and fix as needed. When I went over them a couple of weeks ago, the seemed fine. But yes, they will be checked for safety hazards. Q: Can an athlete drop his/her SNBs off on Saturday? or only on Sunday? A: They can drop them off on either day. I will double check this, but in the past, we have always allowed them to drop them off on Saturday as well! Q: When specificially does your Morning Clothes Bag need to be dropped off? Is the drop off for this near where the line circles? (Athlete is wondering if he/she can drop it off after getting into line (or as the line moves) so that while they wait they can still keep on their shirt/sweatshirt/shorts during the 1-2 hours of waiting for the race to start) A: They can drop them off before they get in line, or the volunteers will be there to grab the bags as the head into the swim shoot, through the swim start arch. So if it is a cool morning, they can hang on to their morning clothes a little longer until they get closer to starting the swim

Veteran 671 Harrison, Oh | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thank you, Lisa! And, I'm glad to hear you have worked things out with your BF; however, if he acts up again, there will be plenty of us to knock him around a little in LOU.....lol I have a question maybe someone can answer. Why do we need our timing chip for the practice swim? In the athlete guide: Athletes will NOT be allowed to participate in the practice swim if they do not have their wristband and timing chip. Ok, so the wristband I understand, but I have never had to have my timing chip for a practice swim before. Anyone know?

Just a guess here. So they can keep track of who goes in and comes out. As stated earlier they may not have the water flow controlled and want to make sure that everyone exits the water safely. |

Regular 99 Holland, Mich. | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thanks Jhouse, and thanks, too, for the helpful info, Lisa! We hit the road Tuesday for Nashville, passing through Louisville, to visit our daughter and son-in-law for a couple days. Then we'll travel back up to Louisville Friday for the mandatory check-in,, athlete dinner, etc. I realize how little training I've done in past week and have to keep reminding myself that "it's ok" ... but very difficult for me to do, Mr. Overthinker. Travel safely everyone! Tailwinds to y'all, Todd
