Finally took my seatpost in to the LBS, and it turns out the thread are worn down and aren't locking the saddle into place.  That's why it keeps sliding around.  They didn't have a replacement part in stock (nor did the other 2 local shops he called), so he had to order the part.  It won't be here for 2-3 days.  Meanwhile, it just wouldn't be safe or comfortable for me to ride my bike on the roads until the seatpost is replaced, so I have to do a 3 hour ride on the trainer tomorrow.  Sigh.  I really want to get outside!!!!!!

Are you not doing long rides outside anymore?    It's only in the 90s here today and tomorrow.

**edited to add that I need a new show to watch while I'm riding.  Anyone have some suggestions?

If it wasn't raining every day I'd be outside.  Hoping it stays clear Sunday morning for my race.

Cindy is digging catching up on How I Met Your Mother right now.

Hey guys I posted this in the tri talk forum but wanted to get y'alls input as well:

So, I just started triathlons this year and my family has made it to both races this year and after each one both of my older children have showed interest in doing this one day. It makes me very proud that they want to do this and I can be an example for them living a healthy lifestyle so I want to lead them in the right direction. My issue is I want to support them but don't know where to start mainly on the swim side. I see the swim teams around here and I don't think my kids are ready for that yet. I never swam except recreationally at their age so I have no idea about swim teams and such. Biking shouldn't be an issue as we take bike rides together now and we can work on that. Should I get them involved in lessons first then look for a swim team to join later? They are 13 and 11 btw. We are doing our first 5k together as a family in September which I am very excited about. Thanks for any advice y'all have

I really like watching "Chopped" on FoodNetwork right now. Amazing how they can take all those different ingredients and making something edible out of them.

I think swim teams are great for kids.  I started on a YMCA team when I was 5 and swam through high school.  I would check out the local YMCA.  Usually they have teams and "pre-team" type programs that help develop strokes and techniques, plus they're usually less conpetative than the USAS teams.  check out the qualifying times for zones.  Some pretty fast stuff:

Kelly!  How are you feeling?

On the trainer I have finished up all seasons of Weeds (hysterical) & Army Wives.  I'm currently hooked on Damages, great show.  House is always good, or Lie to Me.

If I'm doing a hard workout I can't watch TV, too hard to concentrate, so I'll put Pandora on and listen to some angry music.

LArkin - my son has shown an interest in triathlon and has done 3 this season - even came in 4th for his last one (out of 25 boys 8-10 years old - he's 10) Swimming is his weakest sport, just like his mama, and he is in swim lessons right now. His teacher is teaching him fundamentals of stroke and kick. Right now we are just in my moms pool, but come fall I may consider the YMCA. We ran a family 5K last December - we had a blast!

My oldest daughter runs XC and track for the middle school.

That is awesome! I think we will try the community team or the YMCA. I can't wait for the 5k this Sept. I am hoping that they become better swimmers than their dad! My son seems to like swimming more than my daughter.

Total crap run today.

About .75 miles in, my lower left leg got a weird "pain/cramp" in it. Really felt like it was dead, like when your leg falls asleep. I tried to continue running but gave in after about 1.25 miles and walked home.

Terrible. I think my tri days are numbered. This year has sucked for me.

Morning!  Sitting here waiting for the sun to come up, so I can start run 1 of 2 for the day.  Got in 3:15/60 miles on the trainer yesterday, and my legs feel every bit of it.  I'm most likely taking the kids to see Brave this afternoon (unless Ice Age 4 came out....in which case we'll go see that instead).  Looking forward to sitting in the cool, dark movie theater!

Good luck to Scott & Rudy today!  Any other racers?

Jen, why do you wait until it's light out?  I like to run in the dark, but there is some minimal lighting around my neighborhood so I can see bumps and road hazards (usually).  Just curious why you wait.

Speaking of running in the dark, I didn't get up early so I'm just heading out now for my run.  Wish I got up early, it's humid out!

Good luck racers!

8 weeks out from Pumpkinman. I was in the saddle at 5:15 to beat the heat this morning and put in a quality 60 miles. I planned on doing all my hill work the first half and then doing the flats down by the beach the second half. Great plan but man the winds were awful. I was either fighting a head or cross wind my entire way back. I was on this flat that I can normally cruise at 19+ on with a 130-ish heart rate. I was going 17 with my heart rate in the 140's and just could not penetrate it.

Any how with 8 weeks left I just still feel beat up from all the extra volume I've done this year to make the jump to the HIM level. I was hoping to improve on Patriot but I just know if I'll ever feel fresh again until I take a couple of weeks off after Pumpkin. I don't know how the guys in the Tour do it day after day for three weeks.

Fun race today.  8th in my AG.  The field was a lot faster than I anticipated.  As someone pointed out to me College Station is an hour and a half from most metro areas in Texas and it was a big deal in the Aggie alum community.  So I'm pleased.  Things I learned: Seeding yourself aggressively is important in a pool swim because everyone else is over ambitious so you get stuck behind slow people, also I need to push to find a rhythm right out of T2.  I didn't find a run rhythm until mile 2 of a 3.1 mile race.  In the big picture of racing halfs and fulls not a big deal, in a sprint it's a killer.
