I think if I wasn't so ADD that I would really enjoy longer swims. I also think if I did a masters class that the time and distance would fly by a lot faster.

How is everyone doing after their IM and HIM's. Is everybody getting back to training or taking some time off?

More swimming, maybe water jogging after.  Although I'm getting back into a groove, I'm still going stir crazy not being able to run or bike.

Planning on a 3-4 mile run. Haven't been feeling too hot so we'll see how I feel after work tonight.

I took my two weeks off after my HIM and then started into my 18 week marathon training plan for the marathon on Dec 5th. I'm in the second week of the plan and my heart just isn't in it. I'm not even that excited to run a marathon, it just seemed like the next logical step. I've been physically and mentally exhausted (not because of the running but because of work and my husband starting a new job) and the weather here has been really cold and gray which makes being motivated difficult. I don't think I expected to struggle this much after my A race was over.

I'm going to Las Vegas with some friends for a bachelorette party this weekend so I'm hoping that being away and getting some sun and heat will help me perk up and get excited for training again. I miss the structure and being excited about a goal.

Its perfectly natural to have a difficult time motivating after your A race, its also natural not to be motivated in bad weather.  You'll come around and be fine.

I'm going to try to get in 2 hours tonight. I was thinking 30 min ride, 1 hour run and 30 min swim. I haven't been in the pool in a couple of weeks because our gym is being remodeled. I'm going to head to a gym further away that has a pool so I can get a swim in. I need to get back to running about 15 miles a week if I hope to see any gains there. I have had 3 poor weeks of training and I need to get my volume back up to my training program.

I can see that the extra time on the bike has strengthened my legs and cardio up a bit. I can hammer up the 10% grade hill by my house but at the top I'm wiped out. I figure if I keep at it I will be able to sprint down the other side without almost passing out. I'll get this training thing one day.

Hope everyone is having a good training day. Going to be 111 degrees here today. Yay!

Got in a 100 mile bike ride.  Just about killed myself   I spent the last week in Washington State/Oregon, where the temps have been in the 60-70 range.  Came home last night to find 90+ degree temps in WI.  Ran 10 miles last night followed by the bike ride today.  Temps were in the low 90's with a heat index of 99.  I felt great the first 60 miles, then the heat took its toll.   I just went into survival mode for the last 40 miles. To add to the fun I took a hilly route to simulate the IMOO course.

I think the last week of eating like crap on vacation and loosing my heat acclimation really took its toll.  Thankfully I took some endurolytes along which I think helped.  I averaged 18.4 for the first 60 then had to back it WAY down for the last 40.  Today is the closest I have come to calling for a SAG wagon to pick my a$$ up.

Triathletes in general do NOT swim enough.

They under-estimate the importance of it.

Unfortunately I am also one of those fools

I always thought this myself.  As a collegiate swimmer I would put in 6,000+ yd/day 6+ practices/week.... just for a race that wouldn't even last two MINUTES.  So, I was a little surprised at how conservative some race plans are in yardage.  PLUS, triathletes REALLY, REALLY, REALLY under value the worth of a kickboard and pull buoy and some quality time doing DRILL WORK!!!

It's pretty easy to post pictures on the site. First, you have to host the pictures somewhere. I use photobucket. Once you up load them it gives you a url for where your picture is at. When you are typing your post look up at the top where all the icons are and there is a green one that looks like a landscape and hit that button and then copy and paste the url from photobucket into the image url box. It might take a little while to get the hang of it but then it's pretty easy.

Also if you are putting in links to web sites you can type in a word and link it to a site buy highlighting the word and click the chain link icon (2 left of the anchor) and insert a www. link. Pretty cool.

Can't wait to see your tattoo.

I just got some exciting news.  I posted on my facebook page an offer to be a pacer for the Leadville 100 (I have a lot of psychotic friends obviously).  Well, one of my friends is (was) looking for one more pacer for the race.  So it looks like I'm going to get the opportunity to 'run' part of the race with him.  I told him I'd be good for around 30 miles, which won't be a problem considering the pace you're 'running' towards the end of a race like that.  Should make for a great long run training session, plus altitude work up >10k ft.  The race is next weekend.

I'm excited to get the chance to witness the race.  I'll be sure to take my camera as well.

Taken from another post:

Plissken74 - 2010-08-12 9:48 PM
bryancd - 2010-08-11 9:07 PM Maylasia and China are likely the two least participated races on the IM schedule, so yes, your odds there are better, but if you think you can come to any North American race and be a superstar, think again. Now, what is true is that there are races where the opportunity to get a roll down are much greater due to the costs of going to Kona. New Zealand and Brazil come to mind.

so the problem is that you all guys are taking my comments "personally", being a North American. This is not the point. IMWI is giving the M35-39 at around 10h15 and this is probably because the race is close to Kona event and not so many people are interested in competing for Kona at IMWI.
My consideration is behind the North American triathletes performances.
Saying that the best europeans triathletes are concentrated in Austria,CH and DE doesn't mean that europeans triathletes are better than north americans!
I think you are misunderstanding us. Personally I could care less what you Or anyone thinks about the different IMs. All I corrected as did others was the fact that you were opining about the relative ease of qualifying at north American events and then cited data on Malaysia and China. Far as I can tell we don't own those countries or their IMs? Come race IMAZ with me in 2011 and then you can tell me how easy the American AGs are lol. Hey race ANY IM in north America and qualify, as you will have our full respect.

So is this the official announcement?

ummmmmm, this sounds like a bad idea. Running 30 miles through tough terrain with the run mileage you are currently doing scares me. Pete, you are risking inury by trying to do this. July you ran 58 miles. August 40 miles. To do a 30 miler usually requires a lot more running base. I hate being negative on this idea, but I'm worried about this. I apologize if I've crossed over a line with my opinion, as you are free to do what you want and the group will support you regardless. I won't keep on this issue, suffice to say I think it's a bad idea.

I'd have to agree with him.  You can always do 10 or 15.  It does sound like alot of fun and you should at least do some.

One of these days I want to do an ultra and will probably be a pacer for someone in the AC100 (our local ultra).  However doing an ultra is years away.

Well here is attempt #1

Here is the website to see it. Tattoo

All of the lines are straight...but when i move my arm it gets stretched so it looks distorted. At first this bothered me...but after a while i realized the tattoo in no way needs to look perfect..its what it means to me that counts.

could not insert the image when i tried. Is there is a size limit?

The story:

i did my second HIM (Providence). After the race i signed up for IMLP (they had an on-site sign-up).

2 days later i got the outline of the M-dot done. I decided i would get the tattoo filled in after i finished an ironman. Well...after lake placid it was time to get it filled in
Every day i see the tattoo and it reminds me that NOTHING is impossible if i want it bad enough. It has become such a source of strength and a great daily reminder that anything i want bad enough i can get

Hope this works....and thanks for the instructions!
