I just can´t, try to do it and when I miss a day, I feel terrible and try to compensate, and then I think it really does not make any difference. Juan Everyone misses days here and there. Life gets in the way sometimes. Sometimes you are just tired. Things happen. One workout will not kill your training efforts, so when I miss a workout (and I do miss them sometimes!), I just let it go. It has taken me a while to get to a place where I can do that. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I learned the hard way (stress fracture) that you can not make up long runs without changing your schedule or risking injury. I think everyone misses workouts from time to time. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() had to cut my hour run short today (only 5 min). While I was running one of my team mates grabbed me and told me we had to go. One of the down sides of working out at work. Jumped in the shower and rinsed off not even done sweating and got dressed and got going. Now I have a headache and feel like crap. I've tried drinking water and even got a soda with dinner but my head is still killing me. |

My son turned 10 last week so he is doing it with me. 1/4 mi, 11 mi, 5k. Big time for a 10 year old. I think he's more than ready. He swims 1500 at practice with me, bikes 10-15 mi quite often and has run a number of 5k's. I plan on staying with him the entire way. I am going to miss my swim wave start to hang back and swim next to him then stay together the rest of the race. Well that is if he doesn't drop me on the run ![]() that is so awesome - good for him!!! Super, super, great example there, Dad! LOL. He'll remember this stuff for the rest of his life! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by GeauxHard Sigh ![]() Been in a training rut the last few days..haven't had the energy or drive to do much of anything.. My first race is at the end of the month, and I'm just tired.. I'm not sure how, but I need to get it in gear.. :/ Devon, how has the fueling been going? Are you getting enough protein and "good for you food"? (protein gets me). Are you getting enough sleep? Hydrating? Is work going nutty? Is it something a day off would remedy? It might be helpful to isolate what is causing it - if you can't - then push through it. Check in here everyday and get motivated!! Taper week is coming and the couple of weeks leading up to it are usually the toughest. Put your nose to the grindstone and git er done. You will be happy you did. Sometimes this stuff winds up being very mental and less physical - but it's good to figure out which. My favorite quote from Patton (who was an Olympian by the way): “Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired. When you were younger the mind could make you dance all night, and the body was never tired... You've always got to make the mind take over and keep going.” ? George S. Patton Jr. This is so true in triathlon. |

I try to be as close as possible but life happens. Kids get sick, I get sick, last week was the last week of classes at my college and I was flying a ton and it was my youngest son's 8th birthday so lots of house cleaning and barbecue planning. I missed either 4 or 5 days of training! I hated it, but it was the reality. Move on to the next day and give it your all, that's all you can do. Dwelling on it is negative and no one needs that in training. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello! I'm getting back into it as things start winding down a bit here. I've got about 5/6 weeks until the kids get out (June 17) so I'm going to do my best to make my training really worthwhile with my race on June 26. I'm going to run/walk in the Corporate Cup this next Thursday (14th) and have my run/walk down to 10:30min/mile. It kills me to not run the whole thing but I really want/need to avoid further injury. Got a couple of double workouts in this week, a solo bike, and a 3,000 yd swim in today. I think I'm off tomorrow with a s/b/r scheduled for Sunday but gosh, the weather looks a whole lot better tomorrow so I'm tempted to do it Saturday instead. I'm afraid I won't "perform" as well without the rest day but I'd hate to give up a nice riding day (especially here in VT!). Do any of you guys do that - move a day sooner even though you know you might not perform as well? If I leave it to Sunday I may have to do the ride on the trainer... Hey, pictures attached with shirt! Fun! (BDAS shirt back.jpg) (BDAS shirt front.jpg) Attachments ---------------- BDAS shirt back.jpg (41KB - 7 downloads) BDAS shirt front.jpg (33KB - 7 downloads) |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gretchen, Scott, Jenn, Thor et al - thanks for reassuring me that "normal" triathletes do miss training days (or as Jenn put it, "life happens"). I struggle constantly to follow my plan, specially this year with HIM in mind, as it is always great to know that it does happen to all of you. I continuously move my weekly plan one day ahead or back depending on my travelling, I know it is not the best but I get the workout done and even if I perform worse, I really enjoy doing it! Juan |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree that's it's nice to hear that "life happens" to others too. I've been struggling to get my exercise in this week. Both yesterday and today I had to rush around doing my errands just just to get my workouts in. That's why I've been quiet in here....though I have been entering my workouts. It looks like Mother's day is going to be a missed workout too, but Mom is more important. Maybe I'll try to do core stuff. Check-In: 7.25 mile run yesterday while playing with the heart rate monitor & 14 mile REAL bike ride today. That's my longest real ride. It's time to get some miles on me. Everything is feeling good at the moment (as I 'm knocking on wood). I declare myself back up to speed post HM. I didn't wear the BDAS jersrey today....I feel like I should earn it. Wearing a triathlon cycling jersey without having completed one feels wrong. I have a YMCA sprint triathlon in less than a month. I think I might christen the jersey for that ride. It might even give those behind me a laugh. Maybe that'll motivate me to put as many people behind me as I can. Beer I tried a few beers since I last posted. Tucher Helles Hefe Weizen by Tucher Brau - I haven't had this in ages. For the wheat beer lovers out there, you really should try this one. I was driving yesterday so I stopped at one and had water for the rest of the night, but I just had to have this one. Smooth Hoperator by Stoudts Brewing - A doppelbock with 7%abv. It's a nice beer with a little punch. Brawler by Yards Brewing - A mild English ale made in Philly. Philly has a good craft brewing scene. Yards is a big part of it. Happy Mother's Day to the Moms out there. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Everyone! I'm trying to catch up after vacation. I decided to Internet vacation mostly too. I did get a ton of running in and did some open water swimming although Hawaii beach is in no way preparation for Colorado Reservoir! Then when I got back I slipped and tweaked my knee trying to catch my horse in the mud. Three days and it seems better. Tomorrow I will test it out. As far as skipping- my running coach was pretty clear that the number one goal is getting to the starting line- so take a day off rather than getting hurt or making an injury worse. Dave- I think you have a race tomorrow? I hope it goes great! Anyone else racing this weekend? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dave! Good luck at NE Season Opener this morning!!! I would have loved to have done that and ironically the soccer games today were moved to this afternoon so I probably could have done the tri and made the 3.5 hour drive home in time for the games! 20/20 hindsight. Whoever did the soccer scheduling this year here had a rough go of it - many games have been moved. Anyway, I can't wait to here how it went!!! How cold was the water?! The atmosphere must have been wonderful! I hope you get it in before the weather moves in! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kurt Sweet Shots of your bike! is that with your phone and an app, or did you pack an SLR on the ride? Christina Congrats on the Full Mary! good looking picture, I would be somewhere on the ground after 26.2 miles Jenn Great Patton qoute, judging from the quote in your signature block I am assuming you are a big Patton fan? I love reading through quotes and taking inspiration from them. Jersey looks great on you! Dave O you have of course earned the right to wear the shirt, You made them DAVE! So I have been actually doing some running, Thanks again to John for telling me to sign up! I am one month out from the 5K and my wife and I are pretty excited, the event has bands playing all along the route and we found out that the headliner for the concert that night is 'Joel Plaskett' and amazing Canadian Singer Songwriter from the east coast, also just found out that my Mom is coming up for the month of June, so we may have some free child care to enjoy the concert! Anyone who feels like breaking out the passport it wouldnt be that far of a drive for the eastern seaboard members , the event is the Band on the Run in Huntsville Ontario, Huntsville is Toronto's cottage country and a really nice place to tour around, quite a few brewerys in the area to boot! My wife and I are now thinking about doing the local HM as a relay race, I think it would be great to race with her, and that way we can just hand-off our daughter like she is a batton! only in reverse order. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Mother's Day!! Got my s/b/r in yesterday, yea! I started with a 35+ mile hilly ride in about 2:10, followed by a 30 minute run/walk, followed by a 30 minute swim (1700 yds). Everything was time based, so basically you did what you could. Efforts were generally around RPE 2-3 with the swim starting at RPE 7 for the first 400 yds then settling back into an easy groove. When all was said and done I realized that except for the run, I did more on the swim and bike than in my Olympic tri last year. I didn't feel trashed yesterday either - but then I wasn't racing yesterday either.. It was nice to get it done though and so today is now a day off and I'm beat. After the workout we did LOTS of outside work in the 90 degree heat - can't tell you the last time it got that hot here in May!! Hubby took the oldest fishing this morning and youngest has a low grade fever. All in all a pretty quiet house. Weather is forecast to move in by about 10:00 this morning and we won't see sun for a few days - good time to get the bike tuned!! Cheers - all! Have a beautiful day!! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today first time I do 100 km ride (solo ride, no group ride today as they were out in a MTB competition), and first time I use my Adamo ISM seat: sooooo nice! I can be in a much more aero position on my bars with almost no discomfort. No perfect seats, but this is one will make a "before" and "after". AND - I was wearing my BDASS shirt, today a lot of cyclist on the road, I may not be the fastest, but for sure the "uniquest"! ![]() | ![]() Dave- nice job on the first time out for the year! Thanks for reminding me that my first of the year is in three weeks. I'd better get off my butt. On the plus side, I will now have some extra free time now that my rugby season is over. I coach a high school level team, and we just won the Colorado state championship yesterday! Fellow BDAS- I am riding in the Iron Horse Classic in Durango, Colorado in a couple of weeks to raise money for the Davis Phinney Foundation to raise awareness for Parkinson's disease. I am seeking any and all donations I can get. No amount is too small. Here is the link to my donations page- http://dpf.kintera.org/ihbc2015/mikepribeshand I tgank you in advance. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got in a long bike ride Saturday. Had a strong wind at my back for the first half of the ride, which it turns out you don't really feel that is until you turn around and have to fight it on the way back. My return trip was brutal!!! I was suppose to ride for 2:45 but it turned out to be 3 hrs, I was riding from my house out to my daughters soccer game. I made it just as they started. Dave- nice race report looks like everyone's season is starting. I am still race less till mid July when I have back to back races. |
