Is it bad that I'm leaving Austin at around 9 am tomorrow and I haven't started packing anything at all?

At least I cleaned and lubed my bike today.

If that's bad, I'm really in trouble. Have a 7am flight tomorrow and stuck in another city (unfortunately timed work trip) waiting on a flight that's 3 hours late. I'll be lucky to get home before midnight. Still have to pack for me and my 2 young kids...And we leave for the airport at 4:45 am tomorrow morning...Trying not to freak out

Wow...  that would have me in shambles. But then you do what you have to do, and in the end it's the last few months/years of training that really make the difference. Hang in there : )

Drove all night and got here at 4AM. Hotel let us check in EARLY. Got a few hours sleep and then went out and drove the bike course. Glad to get a feel for how the ride is going to look and identify any potential trouble areas.
Got all checked in and picked up my packet. pIcked up some last minute stuff from the IM store.

Can't believe I'm here....seems surreal

I am coming in tomorrow to get packet, eat, then meeting.  I hope to meet some BT'ers.

I need a 2 tubes, body glide and perform.  Should I just buy from the Ironman store or go to the LBS?

Everyone going to be at the meeting tomorrow night? Perhaps we can have a meet-up there.. Or just congregate in the same general area?

OK, trying not to freakout here.

Decided to be proactive and change out the battery in my 310XT strap.  No problem.  4 little screws out.  Old battery out.  (was out for several hours).  New battery in.  Battery is in the right way (+ side up). Screws are tightened down.  NO HR READING AT ALL.  Repeated this process several times.  Tried re-pairing the HRM, soft reset and hard reset and still nothing.  Even put the old battery (which worked fine BTW - I was tying to be proactive) and still nothing.

I trained with HR and it is critical that I have this during the race.  What could be going on?  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Sorry I can't help you with the Garmin. I debated rather or not I should change out the batteries in the hub and monitor of the power meter. Decided not to for exactly what you're going through right now. Worst comes to worst call Garmin support in the morning.

I don't know but I believe you have to re-sync them together after a battery change, like the 305 - You have to pair them up - my guess -

Ok, under settings - general - accessories - hit rescan to find your HR monitor - the 305 manual says also don't be near any interference (electrical) - hope that helps

Gotta check in here formally to wish you all a good race and a safe race! My man FattyFatFat is in the house so y'all look for him afterwards and get him a case of really fattening beer like Southern Tier Chokalat, some fried moonpies, and some RC Colas! He looks all thin anymore.

Its a cool 40 deg in Denver - presently at the airport. Looking forward to the 50 deg temp jump!

Also: I'm always amazed at how much crap I pack. My race gear nearly filled up my jumbo suitcase!

I've changed a couple Garmin HR strap batteries that I've used with the 405 and the 310XT, and you always have to repair the monitor to the device. It's possible that the "new" battery you put in was a dud. When you put the old battery back in, did you repair after? Anyway, I'd buy another new battery and give that a try, then call Garmin Tech Support. In general, I think their tech support people are pretty good. They can't fix hardware over the phone, but they can help with process and software issues.

Greg, sorry to hear about your recently diagnosed cancer, especially after all that your family has endured over the last few years. I did your "Tri for Life" a few years ago and found your entire family so inspirational. Best of luck to you in your race, and blessings to your new blended family.

This sounds right.  I had to do this when I changed out straps a while back.  I think the unit basically has to reinterface with the monitor to recognize it.

Packed up and ready to go.  Just waiting for my wife to get back from dropping the dogs off at the kennel and we'll be on our way.

Any plan for a BT table at the welcome dinner tonight?

Wow.  I had no idea you were diagnosed AFTER you signed up.  That is very inspirational, especially for anyone overcoming a rough training period.  So glad to hear things are going well.  Good luck Saturday!

Hi Dodgersmom, if you can't get it fixed, I use a Forerunner 305 that I can fedex to your hotel for Friday morning delivery (not sure if the strap works for 310XT, but I can send both the strap and the watch so you can use them instead).  I'm not in the race (driving in Friday night from San Antonio to volunteer), so I really don't need it over the next week and am happy to help.  You can just send it back to me after the race.  Just PM me with the hotel address if you want to do that...fedex deadline is 4 pm in my office so just let me know by then...John
