Expert 1249 MI | Subject: RE: Asphalt Junkies Spring 2013 - Closed Okay. So I went to the race expo, only to pick up my bib and t-shirt (a tech one btw- I like getting those!)... meaning I officially am not doing the 5k. It was a little sad to be there knowing I wouldn't be running! But to be honest, the weather is suddenly supposed to be really crappy (cold/rain/snow/wind??), so it makes me feel a bit better about my decision! A few things have been said here that have definitely got me thinking! I need to remind myself of what my ultimate goal is! Which is to get to the fall in PR-shape for a sprint tri! (Well, the first would be to get there healthy I suppose!) I love doing races because I find it to be a measure of progress, but the reality is, due to my current issues, I might not be able to race as often as I would like. So I gotta keep my eye on the prize (so to speak) and accept that I may not be able to do all the races I would like to due to the risk of furthering my injury! So in the immediate future- (always subject to change!!) - I am thinking I will take the next week or two easy... although already the past 2 weeks have been taken easy, but that was not by choice! And then I will have a few more weeks before my memorial day weekend sprint tri. And from there we will see where I'm at!! Not gonna lie, I'm very nervous for this hamstring/hip issue to become problematic!! Jen, to answer your question about when I feel the hamstring thing- I'd say it's outside of the actual running... |

Expert 2380 Mastic Beach, NY | Subject: RE: Asphalt Junkies Spring 2013 - Closed Samantha hope you are feeling better and it's probably a good move not to do the 5K especially with the bad weather and all. You're right the bigger picture is more important so make sure you take care of yourself so you can get ready for those races you're planning on doing this season. Dirk good luck at Boston, like Karl said we'll all be following your progress here and cheering you on from afar. Enjoy the experience and take it all regardless of how you decide to run this race make sure you have fun with it. JoAnne you're kidding? You have my sympathies and not to rub it in but I think spring may have finally arrived. Looking forward to getting out and running today, it is supposed to be near 60 degrees. |

Master 3486 Fort Wayne | Subject: RE: Asphalt Junkies Spring 2013 - Closed Samantha, it sounds like you are moving in the right direction by pulling the plug on the HM. I would imagine you could have made it through the 5k if you chose too, but to pull the plug in the interest your health was likely the best idea. Thanks everyone for the props as I get ready to line up in Boston. I am ready to go! I just met Warren and we sat and talked for nearly 2 hours. It was an awesome time for us to finally put a human being in front of me rather than an avatar. Next will be dinner with Jonathan and Kate tonight. It is a little bit unreal to be able to meet up with more people from our little group and make connections from half way across the country. This is one reason that a group race at Tri-Indy would make such an incredible time! Tomorrow will be more time in Boston and then later in the day a run with Warren and then dinner with he and his family. It will be some great times! I will check in later but probably won't post.....But we'll see. |

Extreme Veteran 868 Racine, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Asphalt Junkies Spring 2013 - Closed Sam, good choice, but a little rest and you will be back in no time! Dirk I am looking forward to following your race! Have a great time with Warren! Tony enjoy your weather, what I would give for a 60 degree day, by the way where are you guys staying when you are in Syracuse? I am pretty sure all my kids are coming so we are thinking about renting an RV, I know I need to get this figured out ASAP As for me I am very excited to say.... I ran a 29:28 today. Last year I ran a 12:10 pace so this is huge for me I am so happy!!! I then got into the pool and did 2000 yards and that felt good too! Iam finally making progress. |

JoAnne glad to hear you had a great workout. To be honest I haven't booked a place yet and I know I really need to do this like very soon. I am still trying to figure out if my wife is going to make the trip and how many days to stay. I would like to head up on Friday so I don't have to travel the day before the race and I'd like to stay over Sunday night and head back home on Monday. I'll let you know as soon as I decide on what I am doing. |

Expert 1439 Tallahassee | Subject: RE: Asphalt Junkies Spring 2013 - Closed Jo, good run...congrats and you get double brownie points for the cold and snow... For me, no training in 2 days, yuk..and I'm SO SORE I can hardly walk, it is funny how we can run, bike, swim, lift etc and then when you do something different we can hardly move. I've spent all weekend putting down tile in a rental house (down on my knees, up to measure, down, up, down up a million times), cleaning, yardwork etc etc etc. |

Master 3486 Fort Wayne | Subject: RE: Asphalt Junkies Spring 2013 - Closed Jo, it sounds like you had a great run! Your fitness is increasing and the confidence in yourself keeps climbing. It's really great to hear that you are feeling so great about your accomplishments. Congrats! Karl, A couple of rough days for you it sounds like. Never fear, a few days away from training never hurt anyone. However, it feels like it's hurting me right now. Tapering sucks!! Here are a couple of pics from my FB from my adventures yesterday. I cannot convey how incredible of a time it was to.................(in order of appearance) ^Meet Warren face to face............ Lie down on the BOSTON FRIGGIN' MARATHON FINISHING LINE!............ ^Meet Jonathan, Kate and Ben. Although I have no pics with Kate and Ben, I would have loved to have gotten a few. This won't happen when I get up to Warren's place this evening and meet his entire family. If you cannot tell, I'll let you know.........We are having a great time!! |

And that soreness ids do well known to us old folk Karl! Not saying YOU'RE old, but I can relate. That's why I don't do yard work anymore! Here's hoping Jonathan is having a great ride today for a great cause.I can't wait for Dirk and his family to show up later today, though I have to admit to the group I'm a little intimidated to be running with the master - even if it's going to be a super short uber taper run for him!Jo, good run...congrats and you get double brownie points for the cold and snow... Expert 1249 MI | Subject: RE: Asphalt Junkies Spring 2013 - Closed Nice pics! That one laying on the ground is hilarious Karl, good to see you got in some quality cross training!!! I think I'm going to (continue to) take it easy this week. I think my focus will be on stretching a lot, getting in flexibility exercises, etc. Maybe a little bit of functional strength training stuff as well... also I have not mentioned my elbows for awhile... for a period it seemed like they were feeling much better, but in the past few days it's gone back to being quite bad. Oh well! |

Huge training weekend for me, friday after work had my long run. Picked a new route that was mostly flat (yayy) and had absolutely perfect weather. laid down 7:46's for 10 miles at mid zone 2 HR. HUGE "PR" for me. I think i could get used to this nice weather, definitely excited to go out and train every day. Edited by dmiller5 2013-04-15 6:49 AM |

Master 2327 Columbia, TN | Subject: RE: Asphalt Junkies Spring 2013 - Closed Anyone watching the Boston marathon? It's noteworthy to me that the women's leader has such a long stride. It almost looks awkward because she is taking such long strides. I just got a text about my friend Stacy. She has gone through 10k in 42:13. I'm sure I'll get one about Dirk in the next...20-30 minutes? How much later did the men start?

But don't panic...a little residual soreness at times is normal even for months. But did you race in shoes that you train in? Or are they racing shoes and therefore relatively new to your feet?

Jeff I have been watching as well I think the women started at 9:30 and the men started 30 minutes or so later. Dirk still hasn't started according to the Boston website tracker. |
